How to unlock the Elizabeth boss fight in Persona 3 Portable

This guide is written specifically for the Persona 3 Portable edition. Additionally, as a note, if you play the female protagonist, you can select Theodore instead of Elizabeth to be the attendant at the beginning of the game. Since there is no difference between the unlock process and the fight, this guide will only refer to Elizabeth.

To battle Elizabeth, first, you’ll need to reach the top of Tartarus. After this, you’ll want to complete Elizabeth’s Request #53, which becomes available in January. The request requires you to defeat the Reaper. Defeating the Reaper will open up a new dungeon called Monad and give you the Bloody Button. Take the Bloody Button to Elizabeth to complete her request.

After completing request #53, Elizabeth will then talk to you about facing “The Ultimate Opponent.” Accept this request, #55, and then fight your way to the 10th floor of Monad, where Elizabeth will be waiting to take you on in a tough fight.

How to prepare for Elizabeth boss in Persona 3 Portable

Don’t even dream of fighting Elizabeth until you’re at least level 99. As for gear, bring along Lucifer’s Blade or Vel Vel Muruga, which is your chosen protagonist’s ultimate weapon. You’ll also want Divine Pillar, which reduces damage by 50%. Lastly, plan to bring any kind of items that protect from instant death.

Additionally, you’ll want max social links so that you can fuse Orpheus Telos. Make sure he inherits Thunder Reign and Elec Amp from Odin. You’ll also want to get the skill card High Counter from Siegfried and teach the skill to Orpheus Telos. You’ll also want Salvation or some sort of heavy healing on him as well. After that, focus on skills that either buff damage output or reduce damage taken such as Sharp Student and Mind Charge.

Elizabeth is actually one of the most strict boss fights in JRPG history. There’s really only one win condition and really only one best way to get there. In addition, she has several “rules” to her fight you cannot break.

The rules are:

  • You must fight her solo.
  • No Personas or accessories that block, repel, or absorb damage.
  • No accessory that nulls any kind of attack is allowed.
  • You can’t use any kind of mirror or reflect moves like Tetrakarn or Makarakarn.
  • You must beat her in under 100 turns.

Seriously, don’t break them, or she’ll one shot you with a 9,999 damage Megidolaon if you do. Also, she uses that same attack every eight turns anyway, but you can prepare for that one. The only way to block that attack is to use Infinity. Meaning you need to bring a few. You’ll also need one Armageddon to end the fight at the right time. It’s the only way to actually win. Both can be grinded for and bought from The Antique Store.

How to defeat Elizabeth in Persona 3 Portable

First off, Elizabeth has a whopping 20,000 HP. This is far more than anything else in the game. However, I don’t tell you that only to scare you. It’s information you need to have. You see, Elizabeth does 2 full heals, once when she reaches 10,000 HP and once when she drops below 6,000. After the second full heal, she will begin spamming the 9,999 damage Megidolaon.

The only way to do enough damage to kill her is to use Armageddon, but you must time it right. The skill does 10,000 damage. Even if you brought two, she’d survive with 2 HP, full heal, and spam until you die. So you only need one, but it has to count. This means you need to keep track of how much damage you’re doing manually. Yes, I’m serious.

Elizabeth switches between Personas in this order:

  • Surt
  • Jack Frost
  • Thor
  • Cu Chulainn
  • Metatron
  • Alice
  • Nebiros
  • Masakado

Metatron and Alice will use a light and dark instant-kill spell, respectively. You can counter this with the items you brought. When she switches to Nebiros, on your next turn throw down your Infinity you brought. This will nullify the massive double Megidolaon blast.

Honestly, if you’re level 99 and keep up with healing and her pattern, you have a good chance at surviving, no problem. It’s killing her that’s difficult. You can actually kill her before her first heal, thanks to that High Counter you taught your Persona.

Once she’s taken enough damage, one more hit will push her under 10,000. At this point, STOP ATTACKING her. This is where we want to bait her into one more attack and pray High Counter triggers. This is why you really need to keep track of your damage. If High Counter triggers, it becomes your turn and you can use Armageddon and win.

If you mess that up, the only other option is to get her back down to under 10,000 after that first heal she does. You can use Armageddon any time if she stays between 6,000 and 9,999. However, then you’re approaching that 100-turn cap from her rules. It is possible, but the easiest method is to bait her with High Counter.

It’s an incredibly hard fight to win against, mostly because its rules are so strict. There is very little room for error. There’s really only one path to victory, and it’s built around some luck and how well you can do math.
