Bionic Commando in the 2.5D dimension

I was wondering how Capcom was going to capitalize on nostalgia for the rebirth of the Bionic Commando franchise when the younger generation isn’t aware of it. Surprise, it too is getting a make over. Grin, the studio behind the new Bionic Commando game, is working on Bionic Commando Rearmed, an updated version of the 8-bit classic. The focus is till on grappling, but now players get to hook on to 3D platforms while listening to a new musical score. Capcom also plans to tie in the new Bionic Commando game by using Bionic Command Rearmed as a key to unlock hints and new contents for the sequel.

My only question is will Capcom keep the wacky Engrish storyline where players fight the “badds”. Ben Judd, the producer of both projects at Capcom says, “And with GRIN taking care of development, we can ensure that there is real consistency across both the Bionic Commando titles.” Ahh… that doesn’t sound like the new gritty entry is going to have goofy PlayStation Network / Xbox Live Arcade prequel.

Knowing Capcom, those who wait for the special edition Next-Gen Bionic Commando will get this bundled in for free or something… Now I’m going to have to wait at least a year to buy either :(

  • This actually looks pretty fun.

note: I watched the trailers this morning, and you unlock a skin for the 3d Bionic Commando when you beat the game.

  • I love the soft, Pixar look to it. I never owned (or even heard of the original) for that matter back in the NES days. So I might pick this one up.
