So, Bayonetta Lets You Transform Into A Cat

By Spencer . April 10, 2009 . 4:34pm

One thing this Bayonetta clip tells us is the game is absolutely crazy in an over the top way. You crush monsters with traps, attack with your hair, and morph into a cat familiar. Bayonetta won’t be borrowing moves from another stylish action game.

The other interesting bit of information is all of the voice acting is in English. Looks like Sega is fast tracking the localization, but will gamers be interested in brand new action series with games like God of War III and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on the horizon?

Like most hardcore action games, this looks like something I would find frustratingly difficult. I would buy an anime of it in a heartbeat though.

  • QBasic

Which would also epically fail like the DMC anime?

One thing about action games is…they make really, really shitty storylines with bland, cheesy characters…

  • Cloud_ST

I Like this kind of game….i just hope that it doesn't have the “A,B,C..” rank crap from Devil May Cray,I always hated that,i mean the goddamn game is difficult already, you need to rank performances at the level just to make you feel like noob, even if you beated it?.

Thats Why God of War is better.

  • Volcynika

So you hate the game telling you what you need to improve on?

  • QBasic

So a cheap knock off is better than a true game because it makes you feel more adequate?

Somehow, in some oh-so mysterious way, I find it really hard to be on the same page as you…

  • Aoshi00

Looks very cool, they even have a pimp driving a cadillac :) Bet playing this cat is more fun than the ninja cat in Tenchu 4. I admit I'm not the best in action games like DMC, Acolyte in Ninja Gaiden 2 was hard enough for me, always appreciate them giving players a more forgiving difficulty lvl.

  • CleruTesh

While I sympathize with your frustration, as my lack of aptitude in this type of game is immense; I must say that, after downloading Art Style: Rotohex, it is apparent to me that a game loses replayability if it does not gauge your performance in some way.

  • Constraint

At 0:50, was that Joe Pesci voice acting?!

  • Roto13

This is going to be a fantastic game. Yes it is.

  • Mr. Persona

PURE SEX and FUN! I love it!

  • Cloud_ST

Cheap Knock off?so God of War is a Cheap Knock off…yeah right,at least the Second part of It didn't suck as hard as DMC 2 did,and anyway the only truly,TRULY good for me was the First.

I Believe God of War was really, really hard on the last levels, but this is not about being hard or easy,I just hate that the programmers or Capcom or whatever had to put that goddamn A,B,C bullcrap so that a guy who can score double-S can laugh or whatever of a guy who beat's the game but just doesnt want to spend its time practicing who to be “Stylish”.

I play my games for Fun,you know,ENTERTAINMENT,if I wanted a second Job i would find one!.

  • QBasic

Well, guess what. It seems like Bayonetta isn't for you, cause it ranks you as well.

Does does FFXIII. Oh yeah, does…wait, KINGDOM HEARTS!? Yep…the DS game 358/2 Days sure as heck does that, too…

So yeah. You can either suck it up, or find a new hobby. I heard weaving baskets is back in town.

  • Marllone

Just the fact that the title character is designed by Kazuma Kaneko (though I am unsure if he did any others) is enough to make me want this game.

It does help that it looks wickedly fun. ;D

I, for one, don't mind being a D student in the School of Action/Hack n Slash Games.

  • eladbrit

i really enjoy these type of games eversince onimusha the original came out. true there were similar games before but for me (i could be wrong) that series sort of made this kind of genre…gotta love capcom for it. anyways i think im gonna really like this game.
i also really wished for a cool game with a really cool female protagonist too. :)
hence i tried bullet witch lol wasn't that great but i think i was the one of the few people who had fun with that game.

  • Aoshi00

The upcoming Velvet Assassin has a pretty cool spy chick in tights too, but it seems like another shooter in Nazi WWII setting. Bayonetta looks sexy like a succubus w/ the bat wings. Gotta love the giantic bosses.

  • Tatsu

This seems like a good place to toss in a bit of design theory.

A lot of people do equate a low grade (a C or a D) as an overall failure, and that's not something that ought to be presented when someone has just passed a stage. The fact that this is frustrating is understandable; I personally become a bit irritated simply because a letter grade is the least imaginative ranking system a developer can come up with.

I've found that a trophy/medal/star system works better in this case. Not getting a trophy doesn't mentally equate to getting a D, and still gives you incentive to play the stage again.

  • jarrodand

Looks cool. The Panther section was giving me slight Okami flashbacks.

  • Cloud_ST

Nice Reflexion,I agree with you, that system is a lot better and not that punishing.

Anyway,Ill play this game, regardless of the rank system, cause' the main chick just look's awesome.

  • eladbrit

oh yeah i totally forgot about the game. looks pretty cool actually although different kind of game.
i really like skill and inventory management in the DMC series i hope there is some kind of variation (which i think it will) to it but different. i believe in platinum games :) im not 100% sure but arn't they the ex-clover members? i only know of shinji mikami…which doesn't necessarily mean the clover members all went.
anyhoo when is this game coming out i wonder.

  • eladbrit

anyways this gamer looks even more over the top in terms of action than DMC it seems…and im sure i'll throw my controller in frustration at times too…lol.

I love hardcore action games; if there's no challenge, there's no reward, in my mind. That being said, this looks great. I'll gladly add a new IP into my collection any day – it means developers are trying to do something more than shovel the next in a long line of successful, proven formula titles. It's a risk, with new ideas and new control schemes (eh, sorta). I support that much more readily than “more of the same”, even if “the same” is really, really, really good (God of War, Devil May Cry).

This game and the game “Wet” look like so much sexy/fun. Too bad Wet has been tabled for the time being by Activision. Too “generic” or something? Not like those plastic guitar-like-controllers aren't getting “generic”. Just stable money-printers. Saaaarcasm.

  • Wishy

This game slipped my mind, thanks for reminding me! :P

Looks amazing and while I'm not the best at action games, I am a huuge action game fan and find it thrilling to play. Can't wait for this!

    Is it PS3 exclusive?

  • Volcynika

    Both 360 and PS3.

  • moo
