Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Welcomes Two More Characters… And Rocket Launchers

By Spencer . June 4, 2009 . 2:40pm

In addition to Ryu and Ayane, Rachel from Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Momiji from Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword will also be playable in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

Ayane is speedy and at E3 I saw her swiftly tearing through beasts leaving a glowing purple blur behind. A representative from Tecmo explained they wanted Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 to be beautiful, not just bloody. Momiji’s strength is her long reach and Rachel is a powerhouse with heavy, but slow attacks. She also has… a machine gun. Ryu carries a mystical looking gun which was explained to me as a rocket launcher. Quite different from your usual ninja weapons and fire wheels the series is known for.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 also has online co-op, a first for the series, Interestingly, this feature was on the table when Team Ninja was developing Ninja Gaiden 2 — the Xbox 360 version. However, the team was not able to complete it. Currently, Tecmo has no plans to release downloadable content or patches to add the extra content in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 to Ninja Gaiden 2.

    How come the rawket luncher shoots a fireball?

    I read “swiftly tearing through breast”…then read it again. Anyone else get that? -_-;

    argh.. Director’s cut again.. w/ Ayane, Momoji, Rachel, and the new gaint bosses like the golden Buddha!

    See, they put out these useless money gouging but eventually useless costumes & accessories, yet now they hold out on fans for DLCs that are actually substantial to the gameplay experience.

    Well, at least I lucked out and got the 360 ver. from Best Buy for $9.99 on sale, so double dipping the PS3 version still wouldn’t be so bad.

    From what you have seen Spencer does the game’s violence seem to be toned down any? The only videos I have seen of much gameplay were grainy cam videos.

    • Yeah it doesn’t seem as gory, but I just played as Ayane. Someone from Tecmo said they were trying to make Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 a beautiful game, not just a bloody one.

        I don’t know, if they cut out the violence, regardless of reasoning it seems more like censorship to me, even if self imposed. It was a standout point of the original version. Nothing felt like ripping a demon to shreads with the claws.

          Yeah, I just watched the trailer and realized that too, it looks “cleaner” overall. I thought it was just the port having worse textures than the 360 version like Lost Planet.

          It just felt unbelievably satisfying to have Ryu Hayabusa performing those crazy moves dismembering and decapitating the goons in all sorts of fashions. It would be too bad if the PS3 tones down the violence on purpose despite the extra contents.
