Koei Cancels Warriors Orochi Z For North America

By Spencer . June 9, 2009 . 9:12am

Koei repackaged the two Warriors Orochi games and added a few characters like Sanzang Fashi who attacks with her sleeves to make Musou Orochi Z for the PlayStation 3. The game came out in Japan in March, but it won’t cross the Pacific.

Since the Warriors Orochi Z wasn’t at E3 I spoke to Koei about it. At one time Koei planned on localizing Musou Orochi Z as Warriors Orochi: The Collective. A representative from Koei confirmed that the rumor Siliconera discovered was on the mark, but plans for the project have been shelved. Warriors Orochi: The Collective, Musou Orochi Z, Warriors Orochi Z or whatever name you know the game by is stuck in Japan, which makes Musou Orochi Z the first Omega Force developed Warriors game not to get an overseas release.

I haven’t wanted to play a musou game since Samurai Warriors on PS2 (the first one), though it’s one of my most favorite PS2 games. I think they’re great games with great gameplay, but there’s just so little changes in every next game, it’s like the Madden of Japan. More so, I’m sick of their US localizers not leaving in the Japanese voice overs because that’s just idiotic if you ask me. It’s worse than putting useless giant crabs into a game that’s supposed to feature battles based on historical Japanese battles that actually happened. It’s been quite a while since the first Samurai Warriors so I’m sure there’s been enough changes since then to make it feel different enough to warrant playing another musou, but I’m going to ignore it until I find out they’ve at least left the Japanese voices in.

Im looking forward to Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll.
      Dynasty Warrios + Golden Axe= ^_^
Hope for Eu Release, us is already confirmed.

Weird, I would think that they would bring the game over here, but I wonder what’s the reasoning behind not bringing it. Is it a potential sales problem, or is it something Sony has done (like denying it)? Meh, I don’t want to import it, but it looks like I might have to.

  • Kopp

And nothing of value was lost.

    • Jay

actually its one of the best games this gen

      • QBasic

If you haven’t played a single other game this gen…

        • Jay

What all the Call of Dutys and Halos? Thats all this gen has really consisted of. No this is by far one the best games this gen, if not THE BEST game this gen

          • QBasic

Yeah. You definitely never played any other game or series in your life…

          • Jay

Yeah, you definitely never played Musou Orochi Z

And because of that, your opinion is completely useless

          • QBasic

Don’t need to. I’ve played the other 22,000 iterations of the franchise to know how the ball rolls.

            And it doesn’t roll smoothly…

          • Jay

you just proved my point, if you had half a brain you’d realize each numbered installment of the warriors series plays very differently.

And the fact that you think the series has 22,000 iterations shows how betarded you really are

          • QBasic

Plays differently? And how does exactly a brainless button masher that has hundreds of clone copies diversify among it’s dubious replicas?

Oh, right! Warriors Orochi ZX: Now with a different *font*!

            Yep. Diversification…in progress.

          • Jay

with that logic you could say any game is brainless and exactly the same as every other game in its genre.

            thats called fail logic

  • QBasic

We are saved. The world’s balance…is in check.

I wonder if this has more to do with Koei’s merger with Tecmo. Perhaps they have decided to go through their portfolios and shelve some games that they felt won’t make a certain quota. A streamlining of their lineup. Afterall, Activision did it with a ton of games when they merged with Vevendi.

  • Zuga

Time to import then. I wasn’t going to buy the domestic version anyway if they left out the Japanese voiceovers.

  • MoxManiac

Rumor is SCEA said no. It’s too bad, the Orochi games are great, and I wanted to play them in Hi-Def.

  • Peter

Wow this sucks. I was looking forward to get this game and add it to my Koei collection.

  • Dean

IMO, a big mistake, real unfortunate.

  • Metalsnake

I was wondering why they put the new characters/features into WO2:PSP for U.S./E.U. I guess now my question is answerd…

  • Tristan

NO! Damn you KOEI! You have lost a true fan because you guys are not going to release a Warriors Orochi Z!

  • David J.G. Doyle

WHAAAAAAAT!!!!? That’s SO wrong and unfair!

  • Nanaya

Seeing as I never actually caught up with the Musou series in a while, I was wondering when I should get the Orochi series when I heard of “The Collective”. I would’ve just waited to get a PS3 and get this instead of just getting both separate games.

  • Kaosu Gakusetsu

The real question here is, what is the cause of this? Could it be something to do with the game or the system, maybe even price? My guess is that it has to with the first two Orochi Games. They were both made for the PS2 and the 360. So that is where the problem comes up. Why make this one game for the PS3, with more characters, more levels, and other stuff, instead of making it for all 3 systems? That is my guess on the situation. They cannot release the game to use, because they have not made other versions of it for the PS2 and the 360. Another way, if this is the cause, to resolve it is make downloadable content for warriors orochi 2. Like I said, this is my guess to what the cause is.

  • Sarah

that sucks I really love the warriors series. They’re really great games and fun too. I think its cool how all of them have different weapons , its really creative

  • gupp

you know what koei is so fuckin stupid becuase they tell north america its coming august 1 and i was looking so forward to buying it

  • dinnis

WTF!! I love this game. How the hack am i supposed to do now. I waited so long to try it!!!so….Anyone know how to get a copy?….lol

    • dinnis

gupp is right…..this sucks…anyone wanna start a riot?…lol…but dude i am so fudging mad atm….gosh….

      • dinnis

ima go every where and tell everybody that koei stinks for not letting warrior orochi z come to america….still mad…..

        • jpop

Well this game’s not coming out due to the sells of the Orochi games… I mean seriously, Warriors Orochi 2 for PSP has been out for like almost a week, and no game store has one copy. They don’t even have one copy of the first one!

  • DantieNeit

I hate this no less than anyone else here, certainly more than some though, anyway. I wish they’d release it in english somewhere, that’s what I love about PS3, region free. Plus UK and AU are both Pal, yay. Unless someone has decided to post a translation for all the menus, items, descriptions, etc., I’m not too sure I’ll get it. It’s too hard to play on PSP having played on console. Plus, it’s not like we get don’t get screwed enough in AU as it is anyway.
Conclusion: English translation at the very least.
