By Spencer . September 14, 2009 . 11:55pm

nierSurprise! Star Ocean: The Last Hope is coming out for the PlayStation 3. Star Ocean: The Last Hope International, which is Star Ocean: The Last Hope with Japanese and English voice acting is slated for release in Japan on February 4, 2010, about a year after its debut on the Xbox 360.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope International uses the CG model menu interface designed for the West and has a reworked battle system with auto targeting.

Along with Star Ocean: The Last Hope International, Square Enix confirmed Nier Replicant is a PlayStation 3 game.

Imagine square localized this with dual voices and the anime interface. lolz. This is the first I’m hearing of Nier Replicant however.

    • pressstart

Hurray for Blu-Ray! At least they’re using the extra space for something pretty much everyone can experience!

  • malek86

Yeah, I could see that coming.

    • Everyone could see it coming. Doesn’t make me less happy about it 8D

  • I gave up playing Star Ocean after my 360 froze after 4 hours of unsaved play

    • Aoshi00

You didn’t save for 4 hrs? I think that happened to me twice but after about 1 hour of play, it was kind of frustrating.

      • There wasn’t any save, they didn’t even ask for a save when switched disks. dammit.

        • Aoshi00

Sparse save point is annoying, especially when there’s a chance the game could freeze up on you. I haven’t finished disc 3 yet and am waitng for the PS3 version, I hope I would get all the private scenarios and endings, might need to consult a guide.

  • Hexen

and if the Japanese find out that it has more content than the original 360 version, burning disc fever again! just like what happened in Tales of Vesperia PS3 Port.

  • Xeahnort

Once again the 360 owners paid $60 to become Beta testers. Most of the major third party titles which were exclusive to the 360 will be on PS3.

I can hear disks being broken and set on fire ala ToV

    • Then again, 360 owners at least got to play Last Remnant.

      • Xeahnort

Not trying to be a fanboy just i´m being sarcastic because I bought TLH last week. Fortunately, still sealed.

        • Nono, it’s cool. I wasn’t implying anything of the sort. But overall, I think 360 owners have gotten the better deal so far. More games, sooner, you know?

          • thebanditking

I guess so, but when I think about how horrid the Last Remnant plays and runs (fells really rushed) and then there is the Star Ocean Freezing bug (which never got patched) I can’t help but be glad that I wait these things out. I dont like double dipping, and thus far I have had to with Eternal Sonata, Ninja Gaiden 2, Tales of Vesperia (eventually), as the PS3 versions have had too much extra stuff for me to pass over. Thankfully the freezing bug kept me from buying the 360 version of Star Ocean so I am anticipating the PS3 release. The Last Remnant is so bad though I would not re-buy it, in fact if it were not for the horrible trade-in rates it would have been gone already.

      • QBasic

        Those poor 360 owners….

    • malek86

I can’t understand the whole Vesperia fiasco. Sure the PS3 version will have more content, but the 360 one came out a year earlier.

Imagine if Namco said, “so yeah, we’re releasing this game today, but we’ll be releasing an upgraded version in a year”, how many people would actually wait a year to buy the upgraded version? I think many would prefer to buy the first version (and then eventually buy the upgraded one too) – when it comes to a game that many fans have been fervently waiting for, I’m not sure they would be able to wait that much time.

GT5:P springs to mind, although that might be a bit different. But the substantial idea is the same: even if at launch Sony said “GT5 will be coming just a year from now”, I think many would have picked up the Prologue anyway.

      • Pichi

Exactly. If you have both consoles, it comes down to priority and patience and possibly if you don’t care about extra stuff.

  • jarrodand

1 year exclusive, almost to the day… I guess we can look forward to FFXIII International only on 360 in December 2010?

  • thebanditking

As a side note, I know gender is often a question when it comes to many of S-E’s titles, but looking at the pic above it looks like the character in Replicant is not a female(like I heard some say) as he/she/it is way too flat chested to be female. Perhaps they just re-skined the character for a Japanese release, and are keeping the story and everything the same. Shame though because as usual I prefer the look of this Japanese character over the more western one. I hope this version come to the US too or if the two games are that similar hopefully the Japanese style re-skin will be available as DLC.

  • Vanilla

The main character of Nier Replicant. I am SO confused.

    • Hraesvelgr

So is most of the internet, apparently.

  • thebanditking

Yeah well Sankaku Complex has a take on this news as well, because according to them the games female co-star (who we have seen before in the 360 screens) is a hermaphrodite. I wont link to the page as its NSFW. Needless to say cross dressing transgenders register an 8 out of 10 on my “wierd sh** O’ Meter” and if this is true I will be skipping this game.

  • HA! So it was real! Awesome, I’m totally buyin’ this. too bad it doesn’t have the anime interface though:(
