Half-Minute Hero, Ju-On: The Grudge Dated For October 13

By Spencer . October 5, 2009 . 8:10pm

Ju-On: The Grudge is being called a haunted house simulator and has players explore creepy areas only armed with only a flashlight. The goal of the game is to escape before your batteries run out or a friend freaks you out by playing with a second controller. Ju-On: The Grudge is coming out for the Wii and it’s $29.99.

Half-Minute Hero started out as a flash game. Marvelous expanded it into a full blown PSP title with four different fast paced games. In RPG mode you race to level up and body slam a boss in thirty seconds or the world explodes. No pressure.

While each stage is short, most levels are actually longer than a half minute since you can extend your play time by talking with the Goddess of Time. Can’t wait to see what funny quotes Xseed made for her in the North American release. Half-Minute Hero is also $29.99 and its for the PSP. A digital release for PSPgo owners is slated for a week afterwards on October 22.

Which game will you get? Both?

    I already have Half-Minute Hero pre-ordered. I can’t wait! Though I doubt it’ll get much attention, since I have Demon’s Souls.

    • I also preordered both DS and HMH. Ju-On… I’m really glad xSEED are supporting the Wii but I’ve got enough on my plate as it is.

  • I played Ju-On and it was pretty… weak. Very linear and the controls were not done too well. HMH was the bomb though! I really want to pick that up when I get some cashhhhhh money. <3

After playing the demo several times, I got used to two of the play styles, and got better at time management. So I’ll be picking up the game later on. :)

Neither. It hasn’t gotten as much (any?) coverage as Half Minute Hero, but it seems Natsume is publishing a quirky PSP rpg soon. “Adventures to Go”. I will probably be getting that.

  • Wow, XSEED just released Eldar Saga and Wizard of Oz last week!

    • I just noticed that while in the store! October is one hell of a month…

  • Is it even possible to keep up with this steady stream of games? I’m going to get Ju-On simply due to it be the right month to get it. I’d like Half-Minute Hero because I’m not sure if it’ll be hard to obtain later, even though I know I won’t get around to it for a long time. Demon’s Souls is really going to take a lot of my time away; I even behaved and waited for Atlus’ version. Thanks for making my wallet lighter, Spencer… xP

I know.. not just this month, but for the rest of this year. I just got NGS2 collector’s edition from GS, and pre-ordered Magna Carta 2 for the artbook. Also I’m tackling FFXII again (I think it’s a hard game, Demon’s Soul sounds intimidating and out of my league). Then there’s Assassin’s Creed 2 and Mushihime-sama Futari in Nov which I’m wondering if I should get the LE for. And FF XIII in Dec, craziness…

I just got Dissidia from Amazon too, caught it on sale for $28 (comes w/ the soundtrack too, lucky!). Need to make a spot for the sweet Half Minute Hero.. loved the demos.

      • Yeah, and that’s still just barely scratching the surface for _everything_ I want. I’m glad you’re giving XII another shot; let me know if you ever need some help there. I believe it’s one of the (well, maybe it’s many) newer game that crossed my 200hr marks. I think the last, as far as RPG’s go, was DQVIII. Culdcept Saga being the newest.

I got to pick up Demon’s Souls yesterday. I’m very pleased so far!

Cool, FF12 sounds long, my friend said he spent 120 hrs too and didn’t even complete the sidequests. I’m only at 25hrs now and at the tomb of Wraithwall again (I think I played about 40 hrs in the Jpn ver before). I must admit the battles seem fun this time around, I’m just scared of the lack of savepoints and cheap bosses that spam you w/ status. I also heard that’s a hunt you do that gives you something very powerful that’s basically a cheat and makes the game very easy.

Glad to hear you are enjoying Demon’s Souls, I’m not touching it though, I hate dying..

I actually wanted to get Culdcept Saga before when it was on sale for around $20, but I didn’t have a US 360 at that time, it’s one of the few US games that is region locked. Maybe I’ll buy that in the future.

          • If I dig it up, I could send you one. I have an extra copy of CS. Actually Culdcept II + Expansion (US just called it Culdcept on PS2) was a great game and when EB, for some ungodly reason, decided to drop the price to $7 used and open all the games and make them all pre-owned, I bought about 6 of them and gave them to friends to get into it. So it’d be that all over again. ;)

  • I never got around to pre-ordering HMH, hehe. Maybe I’ll do it when I go pick up Demon’s Souls, but I’m not too concerned. There are so many game stores near me that I’ll be able to find a copy over the weekend. :>
I’d rather not have to drive out mid-week for something that’ll take a back seat to (RFA/Raiden IV/DS*) at home and the DSL in my purse for at least the rest of the week.

    * DS = Demon’s Souls or (lttp) Dead Space; take your pick.

  • I’ll be downloading Half-Minute Hero on 10/22, but I wish it was going on 10/15 instead.

I wonder if this’ll be SCEA’s usual release strategy for 3rd party PSPgsmes, PSN release 1 week after retail. That’s what happened with Atlus and Persona.

Half-Minute Hero is interesting but… I probably wont buy it.

Its so hard! I played both of the demos multiple times and could never beat them. Not even once!

30 seconds just isnt enough time for me to save the world…

    • Pichi

Its all about how you manage the time. For the RPG one, do a few battles in front on the castle then heal up. Go to the next town to charge up the time. The other one, know your rock, paper, scissors and hit that barrel when low on time. Once you got it down, it becomes a piece of cake. Of course, not sure how it is for the full game.

    • Aoshi00

To me, it’s much easier and more fun than Badman, which shares a similar art pixel style. The princess mode (rock paper scissors) was slightly harder than the hero mode. I remember the demon lord and knight mode were also harder too, but the hero mode is an absolute blast.

I was so looking forward to this, but w/ so many games, I’m really not sure if I should get this on day 1..

I’ve been waiting for Half Minute Hero. I don’t care about the other.
