Maybe, Just Maybe, Final Fantasy XIII Will Ship Overseas Before March 31, 2010

image At a financial briefing Yoichi Wada, Square Enix’s CEO, touched on Final Fantasy XIII’s international release. The localized version is making good progress and it’s possible that Square Enix could release it this fiscal year.

Square Enix’s fiscal year runs from April 1 to March 31. If, and this is a Bahamut sized if, Square Enix ships an English version of Final Fantasy XIII this fiscal year it will be in stores before March 31, 2010. Don’t take this as an official target, an international release date for Final Fantasy XIII has not been finalized.

The Japanese version is still on track for December 17, 2009. Usually, Final Fantasy games in the main series take around six months to localize, but Square Enix is expediting some titles like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers which will be in North America less than two months after Japan.

Here’s another interesting tidbit from the investor’s meeting. Did you know Square Enix gets their console sales figures, data which was used to forecast Final Fantasy XIII’s sales, from VGChartz?

    VGChartz. That's depressing.

On the other hand, them laying off 10-15% of their employees is way worse.

lol @ VGChartz. You can't get more unprofessional than this!

Anyway, even though the VA in the last English trailer was horrible,i'm still somewhat interested in the game.

That VGChartz tidbit is indeed extremely sad.

Though I'm certainly not complaining if it releases earlier.

I knew Squenix was tight fisted (see their "tax" on all their games), but I never imagined they were too cheap to pay for NPD
