Yakuza 3 Storming Into Stores

By Spencer . December 14, 2009 . 3:38pm

imageSega announced Yakuza 3 for North America, but will it be PlayStation Network exclusive or a disc in a shiny case?

Gamestop hints at the latter. The retailer is accepting pre-orders for Yakuza 3, which costs $59.99 through them.

If Sega releases Yakuza 3 into retail, it will be the first PS3 game with only Japanese voiceovers to get a physical release in North America. Other games like Record of Agarest War and Battle Fantasia from Aksys are only available as PlayStation Network downloads here.

When Yakuza 3 was announced, i originally presumed that it would be a Downloadable title, but thinking about it now i dont see how that would be possible since the game is very big, it would take up alot of space. It would definitly be more then 10gb.Besides people still like psychial formats, im glad that its still being released as a disc.

    • 311

yup I like the discs better than downloads

  • Sega pulled something, now I want to know what. >.> and $60? I was expecting $50.

  • I sure do hope Yakuza 3 is released on a disc. I’m not going to downoad a game that’s over 10GB. That’s why I hope this is true, then maybe Aksys can release Record of Agarest War on disc too.
I don’t want the EU version, Aksys version seem to be the more complete version, so that’s the one I would like to get if possible.

    • Hraesvelgr

Aksys won’t be releasing Agarest on disc, unless they suddenly change their minds. They announced it as download only.

      • I know they’ve said its download only. And yes, I’m hoping they will change their minds. A guy can dream and hope right?

        • Hraesvelgr

No. He can’t. It’s not allowed!

      • They’re releasing a physical copy for the 360, in the very least. I’m glad Yakuza 3 is getting a physical release!

  • Eddie

I am just happy we are getting it, I never thought that we would see this game in the U.S. I am still shocked and amazed.

    • cowcow

Well I’m more shocked about Tatsunoko vs Capcom coming to the U.S./EU but yeah still shocked.
Of course I’m most shocked about Fist of the North Star coming
      You Wa Shock!

  • Hraesvelgr

I’m glad that they’re releasing a retail version of the game, but $60 in March means it won’t be able to keep up with much of the competition.

  • lostinblue

I never thought the game was heading the virtual distribution way, the game is too big for virtual distribution, with voice-overs and stuff.

  • [The Hunter] Doomrider

    That cover…. I want it.

Other than that, I wouldn’t download it anyway, so yeah, bring on the blu ray!

  • Kris

Awesome, bring on the March of poverty and amazing games!

    • Aoshi00

It’s not March and I alrdy spent a heck of a lot over the holiday, poverty indeed :)… This is not Siren, physical disc is the way to go if I’m spending $60.

      • Did you end up DL’ing Siren? I waited a bit until the Import dropped in price. Dual Language menu option and physical media? Heck yeah! By March I think most of us are going to be in a line waiting for food on the street…

        • Aoshi00

The Asian Jpn version of Siren w/ dual language sure is the definitive version (even the Jpn ver didn’t have Eng. menus), it was cheaper than to D/L from PSN too. Too bad the shibito are too scary for me, so I didn’t get it :(… credit card bill just came, eek! Technically I should be on instant noodles for weeks to offset my spending spree..

          • Kris

I’ve been holding off on stuff lately, no Saturn imports or new PS3 or Wii games until Christmas. :p

  • DerrickDnaruto

someone plz tell me where i can get battle fantasia on the playstation store

  • Soma

Yes! I will finally be able to play this game and understand everything that’s going on.
Also, isn’t $60 the norm for new PS3 games?
Or does Canada still get shafted on new release prices?

    • pressstart

$60 is the normal price for new PS3 and 360 games. Maybe people thought because Yakuza 2 was budget priced at $30 when it came out that Yakuza 3 would be as well. Hopefully it can sell well enough. I know if I had a PS3, I’d preorder it.

Obviously Spencer does not read his emails. I sent you guys a tip a while ago with direct from Sega confirmation that Yakuza 3 would be a blu-ray retail release, NOT a download. I got the confirmation from Sega’s Marketing department. Also who care that its $60, I was willing to by $70 for a localized copy of the game.

    • I got that e-mail and read it! However, I’m pretty cautious about user tips. We get a lot of e-mails where someone said such and such something that we can’t verify.

Not to say that you’re wrong, but please in the future add your Siliconera commenter name to your tip. This way I know its from a trusted member of the Siliconera community and not another crazy e-mail about a Final Fantasy VII remake.

  • Thank goodness! I’m really annoyed at the Digital Only titles… :(

  • kupomogli

Yakuza owns but if there’s no disc release there’s no purchase from me.
