Tales of Vesperia’s Keroro Costume Made Namco Bandai A Fortune

By Spencer . January 24, 2010 . 2:18am

imageSales of Karol’s Keroro (aka Sgt. Frog), one of the paid downloads in the PlayStation 3 version of Tales of Vesperia, broke the 35,000 mark.

35,000 Keroro costumes multiplied by 500 yen and you get… 17,500,000 yen or nearly $200,000. The numbers aren’t exact so sales are probably higher. That’s a ton of money just for a single costume and there are dozens of Tales of Vesperia outfits available on the PlayStation Store right now.

Wow, that’s unbelievable… I still think all costumes should be unlocked ingame and not bought, but they’re racking in the money this way! Smart move.

yh and i hope that they use that money to release a NA or EU version of Vesperia…cmon im envious :(

Yes I bet you that it would sell good here in the states if they were to release PS3 Vesperia.

      • Kris

Hell, at this point, if they did release ToV PS3, I’d be so happy, I’d buy the Keroro costume for full price.

  • MisterNiwa

5€ for a costume? I get a good PSN Game for that money.

    • Ereek

Indeed, especially when there are sales. For example, now you can get Critter Crunch for $5 and Braid for ~$7.

      • Aoshi00

Yeah, I finally grabbed both of them, haven’t tried Braid yet, but Critter Crunch is an awesome puzzle game for $3.49 on sale!

I guess they’re raking in a lot of money even though it’s a despicable practice. These costumes sold separately are really ridiculous, I love unlocking them like in MGS4, Bayonetta etc, they just keep the game fresh since you’d be playing each stage so many times to find all the secrets and get high scores, not to mention watching the new costumes in cutscenes is way cool, but to spend real money on them.. Sometimes they really sucker you in like w/ the really good ones like this Sgt Keroro…

I wonder if the costumes from SFIV would be included in Super SFIV, guess now way in hell they would throw away free money lol..

Anyway, Bamco is really the worst..

        • raymk

You don’t have to pay for the new costumes in Super SFIV buy you do for the old ones unless you have already bought them and yes it has been confirmed

        • MisterNiwa

I got Braid and Critter Crunch today, already beat Braid, with all trophies.. :D Its awesome!

          And Critter Crunch is addictive!

          • Aoshi00

wow, you’re fast. I think the only game I got all the trophies right away after d/l’ing a game was Gunstar Heroes which was on sale before for $2.99 instead of $5! Yes, Critter Crunch is a very deep and well thought-out puzzle, the tutorials made me laugh so hard.

Just curious, how many FF XIII themes have you unlocked, I suppose you beat the game alrdy right? I haven’t and only got Sazh’s so far and it seems the others are pretty hard. See, it’s nice to “unlock” by completing challenges rather than to buy stuff.

          • MisterNiwa

I have Hope, Sahz, Vanilla and i believe Snow. Still gotta beat all the Missions with 5 Stars to have most of the trophies… Then all Characters maxed out and all weapons/items… Goddamn this is so hard..

      • MisterNiwa

        Critter Crunch is only $3,50!

        • Ereek

My mistake. Now no one has an excuse not to buy either of them!

I’m glad you’re enjoying Critter Crunch.

  • Jaxx-Leviathan

Sure that costume sells good, Sgt. Frog is awesome! Really looking forward to the Tales-style Sgt. Frog game for DS.

      ribbit ribbit

    • nyoron

Totally agree. Normally news like this would upset me on general principle but I can’t bring myself to hate something Keroro related.

  • mFrog

    Frog Power!

  • Joanna

companies like Namco that use DLC should lower their game price. It’s ridiculous that I play 70 CAN (more in Japan) for a PS3 game and then Namco adds some DLC and rakes in even more money! I hate Namco even more (maybe they could use this money to try and market Tales of in the US and finally release Innocence, Hearts, Vesperia, and Graces over here! >:(

    • http://several-hours-into-the-game.blogspot.com/ Nika

While I don’t share your hate I do think you have a good point. They could easily lower the game price even a little and use DLC for extra profit.

      • Aoshi00

I agree w/ Joanna though, buying a game at full price is not cheap alrdy, (I can’t imagine people importing from out of US), like SFIV LE was $80, so spending $15-20 on costumes on top of that is crazy, to be fair they gave us the brawler pack like Zangief’s :(.. If MGS4 and Bayonetta can have unlockable costumes, why can’t Bamco games, but we all know why… The only way to show we don’t support it is just don’t buy it, but there would be others who do, so that’s why they continue on gouging us..And considering some quality full digital d/l we can get on both PSN and XBLA, it’s just hard to swallow paying for extra costumes. One thing I like to do is constantly change wallpapers and themes on all my systems, depending on what I’m playing at the moment. I have to applaud Sony for offering so many free WPs and themes, other than the premium ones. I would buy the 360 ones (gamer pics and themes) if I really really like them.

        • Joanna

glad you understood. If I could I would never give Namco a single penny for any of their DLC costumes, but I can’t control people’s spending. I understand the high price of PS3 games as a means for the company to fund HD development, but in the case of Namco, who can easily regain the money through DLC, it’s just price gorging. Namco, is really giving me too many reasons to hate them.
