Record of Agarest War 2 Being Made For PS3

By Spencer . March 17, 2010 . 10:57am

record2 A sequel to Record of Agarest War is in development. No, we’re not talking about Record of Agarest War Zero, that’s a prequel.

One of the products on Compile Heart’s GDC list, perhaps to be licensed for the West, is a follow up to Record of Agarest War called Agarest Senki 2. The game is currently in development for PlayStation 3.

No concrete details (sorry!) since the news comes from a product list. Agarest appears to be a key franchise for Compile Heart and if Record of Agarest War does well next month there’s a chance we’ll see Record of Agarest War 2 in English.

I’ll have to see if I like the first one or not, but this is kind of disappointing if it’s only on the PS3. I mean, I have a PS3, but at least Microsoft would let it be on a disc…

Is too early to know that, (about if it is getting a xbox release) we still need to see more details :), and maybe depending on this agarest war sells on the PSN, SCEA will let us have others in CD. >_>

The PSN-only problem regards only the USA (SCEA’s jurisdiction), the other branches of Sony allow disk versions of games with only japanese dub both in Japan (obviously :P) and Europe (Ghostlight was able to publish a retail version of Agarest last year).

That said a X360 porting isn’t impossible seeing how Idea FactoryCompile Heart made a port for both Cross Edge and Agarest 1, not to mention the numerous Idea Factory titles released only on X360 (Spectral Force 3, Absolute Blazing Infinity, Rebirth Moon etc). In a previous news on Siliconera even Trinity Universe was said to have a X360 port, we will see if they announce it for the american release.

i think the sales are an important fact (more than japanese dubs) i think they dont accept visual novels because they arent very popular here o.0, and agarest war have some visual novel stuff (kinda dating sim with the girls and whatnot) so maybe thats why they werent really looking forward for a CD release, at least they let us have it in psn

OHH COOL YES WOHOO!, lets hope it does well on the west (the first one), it seems compile hearts god happy for it coming to the US and are giving the series more chances :D

Actually, this makes me a bit sad. Agarest’s true ending finished on such a nice note that I’m not sure how they’ll make a sequel. I’ll probably buy it anyway.

Still, I’d like to see your choices and “alignment” have a larger effect. The alignment system is downright pathetic in the first Agarest. A better alignment system and a relationship system that isn’t based off of your choices of “which direction to go now?” would make it a much better game overall.

    Edit: Is that a Silvi-Rex I see?

Maybe is a new story?, mostly unrelated to the first agarest war, like most of the FF

      • Ereek

Well, I’m not going to spoil anything, but if it’s called “Agarest,” it likely has something to do with the results of the true ending in the first game. I’d say with almost absolute certainty that there has to be all new characters as well – at least if Compile Heart wants to remain consistent. They storyline of the first closed, but the “overreaching” storyline and the world’s history and future is still a bit open.

I can see the direction the developers may go, but I don’t think I’m happy about it. It makes everything that happens in the first game completely worthless. I hate when sequels do that!

        • nyobzoo

well there’s something called Final Fantasy 1-13 right now also that has nothing to do with each other, just cause it’s the same name doesn’t really mean a direct sequel, just putting that out there

          • Ereek

Agarest Senki Zero is directly related to Agarest. I don’t see why this wouldn’t be unless they really want to confuse people.

Also, Agarest isn’t like “Final Fantasy” or “Shin Megami Tensei.” It isn’t a title. It’s a world. I don’t know why it would be called Agarest if it didn’t have something to do with the Universe the game is in. Which is why I stated above, “overreaching.”

          • nyobzoo

but Zero was more of a spin off seeing how it is a prequel, part 2 could be anything but if it is still related it can be something similar to Lunar how it’s like 1000 years in the future

          • Ereek

Ah, I can’t reply to you anymore.

That is true, it may take place in the far future. If it does take place in the future and has nothing to do with the previous game’s story, I will be happy and would have nothing to complain about (story-wise). But if it retains a certain set of connections with the previous game I will be sad and it would feel like everything that happened in the first game was in vain.

I think you’ll understand what I mean when you see the true ending, as what I’m talking about is the entire underlying theme.

Interesting. The franchise must be doing pretty well if they can do yet another game. Maybe I’ll pick up the first one when it comes out. I mean, if Aksys is localizing it, it can’t be that bad… I hope.

  • Gigan22

I’ve got the 360 version pre-ordered so hopefully this and the prequel will also be getting 360 releases later down the road. I’m not getting my hopes too high though. I’m happy enough just to get one game.

    C’mon Aksys.
