Vanquish Screens Leave Cover

By Spencer . March 29, 2010 . 11:42am

Sega released three more screenshots of Vanquish, Platinum Games next title. Luminary designers Shinji Mikami and Atsushi Inaba are developing this third person shooter.

While these screenshots make Vanquish look like another cover shooter, there is a melee component to the game. Players can dash up to robotic enemies using the suit’s built in thrusters. Vanquish is slated for a winter 2010 release worldwide.

Thanks for the tip D_Gadd!

Graphics look ok, but I know better than to trust official images.

Aside from that, I don’t understand if this is a FPS or a TPS? I don’t like third-person shooters that much. I suffered to get to the end of Gears, and abandoned Uncharted halfway through.

      TPS > FPS

And Gears is just steroid induced homosexual male bonding anyway

I could not agree more. I prefer third person games over first person ones, I think you loose something with FPS’s in terms of story and presentation. Either that or this gen has just made me so sick of FPS’s that I just don’t want to see them anymore :P.

Day one purchase for me, this game will rock. This will be the at the APEX of action games!

Looks quite amazing, the combat part does sound intriguing, and Platinum Games have been on a roll so far. I much prefer Third person instead of first like Resistance or Kill Zone. Looking forward to this and Gears 3, much more so than Quantum Theory.

I don’t know, I mean, what’s the point of having a third person shooter that always has the cam on your shoulders? Just to give you a nice view of the guy’s neck? Might as well make it first person.

If they are going to at least use it for platforming, fine then (like in Uncharted, playing it in first person would be quite difficult, and at least it doesn’t have a fixed cam).

I can feel the character much more w/ over the shoulder like I’m Leon or Chris in RE 4/5. But first person makes me feel more distant, I can’t really get into character like in Fallout 3, I would think “what does my guy look like again?” (it’s kind of ugly anyway lol..) Also I don’t like how you “jump” in first person, it just looks weird to me… I don’t play FPS at all unless the story really grab me, like Bioshock 1/2 or Mass Effect.. but yeah, I want to see Shepard’s bald head, at least we get to see his face during the conversation scenes (he does look creepy though coming back from the dead and all), otherwise FPS just feels faceless to me even though it’s supposed to be me.

I hope SEGA advertises this one at all! So far, they’ve been sending everything not named Bayonetta or Sonic out to die this year.
