Nier Staff Working On Downloadable Content

By Spencer . April 16, 2010 . 12:32am

imageNier is just a week away, which means copies are on their way to retailers and the team is taking a break.

That statement is only partially right.

Nier executive producer Yosuke Saito is still cracking the whip since the development team is creating downloadable content. “In fact, this title has distribution plans for downloadable content, work began immediately after completing the main story… how should I say it, we’re just making it now,” Saito said in a Let’s Start! RPG interview. “I don’t have the feeling of being finished. (haha)”

No word on what the downloadable content is, though. A Nier Replicant skin and story patch would fit the bill nicely, but the team wouldn’t have to spend too much time on that. Since the team is actually making something an extra chapter or new playable character are pie in the sky possibilities.

After viewing the trailer, this game could turn out pretty good, I known the visuals are not so pretty (are very polished though), but gonna give it a chance and give credit where its due for Nier development team for trying something different visually (especialy Nier Gestalt main protagonist).

Original new titles should be given a chance.

  • capristrider

Someone told me the other day that the main hero in Nier Gestalt could give Kratos from God Of War, a run for his money for being ugly and angry….. ;)

    • Tokyo Guy

Indeed. I fail to understand why they couldn’t have created someone in the vein of Biohazard 5’s Chris [Redfield]. He is a meathead yet doesn’t break mirrors when looking at them. How anyone at SE could actually deem this hideous monster “suitable” for western audiences is not just insulting, but says a lot about the messed up “understanding” they have of markets outside Japan.

      • capristrider

I’m glad you mention Chris Redfield, you’re right he is a “meathead” (chuckle) and yet still looks pretty cool. And for SE deeming the “hideous monster” (lol) “suitable” for western audiences, SE’s top guys may have drunk one too many sake at the corporate parties

    • Haha. IMO, Nier has the edge if we’re talking “ugly”, and Kratos if we’re talking “angry”. Nier just seems really desperate, not HULK SMASH pissed off all the time.

(not that I care what he looks like, or about either of the Nier games at all—I just found your comment amusing)

S-E should’ve taken a que from Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star…badass but not mirror shattering

For anyone interested, the director of Nier says that the universe of Nier follows from Drakengard’s E ending.

    • Tokyo Guy

Personally I’d like to forget that series ever existed, and that hopefully this game is nothing like it. I still can’t believe Square ordered a sequel…

      • cowcow

It doesn’t look like it is but I never really saw anything wrong with that series. Sure it tried to be like a cross of Panzer Dragoon & Dynasty Warriors, but it seemed to have a decent engine and story

    • i for one am very interested ! i must go review the videos and stuff from Drakengard XD!

I don’t mind that one bit at all, I think it just means this game would have some pretty messed up plot twists like they said in the interview, which is the main draw for me.

Nier might look ugly, but I think he would turn out to be a pretty cool dad, I’ll just enjoy the game for what it is instead of complaining about his face, maybe Jpn PS3 owners also want a less sissy looking main char :)?

Replicant DLC patch would be very cool, but that would mean they need to dub the young Nier in Eng. again right, since it seems to only have Jpn dub from the trailers. Can’t wait for this game.

  • I can’t wait for this to come out. I’m not like, “WHOA! DO WAAAAAAAAAAAANT >_<" about it, but I am certainly intrigued. It just looks pretty interesting and I am expecting it to be good :P

I really like how they already have plans for DLC though. I love it when they add MORE content to an already great title (if this DOES indeed turn out to be as good as I think it will be; I have an eye for this sort of thing, heh).

Do you guys not play Metal Gear Solid because Snake has a mullet and facial hair? Did you pass up on MGS4, the best game Hideo Kojima has EVER made, because the main character is an old man? I guess I still can’t wrap my head around this idea that my avatar must be precious and beautiful.

    • Joanna

I have no problem with Snake, he looks masculine yet still aesthetically pleasing. Snake’s got the older man, rough and tough, sex appeal, Nier? nope, he is just ugly. That is the big difference in my opinion. ;)
