Strider Designer + Square Enix = Necromachina

necromachina

OK, so maybe the Necromachina trailer didn’t grab your attention, but this bit of probably news will. Kouichi "Isuke" Yotsui, one of the designers of Strider, is creating the side scrolling action game for Square Enix.

After leaving Capcom, Yotsui went on to make Osman, a Strider-like arcade game where Abdullah the Slaver destroys society and a bodybuilder/Judicial Affairs officer hires an assassin to take care of him. Necromachina also has a wacky story, which Square Enix summarized.

At the dawn of the 22nd century, an evil power brought inanimate objects to life, and they turned on humanity. Bridges, cars, cups–the whole of humanity’s creations turned on their makers. But hidden amongst humanity’s survivors, an elite unit of specially trained ninja known as Moondivers has been lying in wait for orders to reclaim the planet. Today, those orders arrived.

Ninjas vs.sentient bridges are coming to you on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade later this year.

The plot sounds wacky as hell but the character art has me interested. Could be my cup of tea. Oh right, cups feature, expect they kill.

Capcom needs to take notes and start developing another Strider sequel already ;)

“OK, so maybe the Necromachina trailer didn’t grab your attention”
    Grabbed mine.

  • deltazero

Game looks sexy like hell, cant wait till it comes out. 4p co-op 2.5d sidescroller ftw

  • Code

First, Hard Corps with Konami/Arc System, and now this! Maan, it’s great seeing 2D platformers finally coming back in decent numbers again. Although reading the story and watching that trailer, I wouldn’t have guessed they were the same thing at all, lol >w<'

  • Aoshi00

I knew it! It totally reminded me of Strider on PSX when I first laid eyes on the trailer. Now we have this and the other Castlevania co-op game to look forward to:) Wonder who drew the art though, is it the artist of Sigma Harmonics? hate that game though…

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

I’m not sure about art, but the character designer is Roberto Ferrari. Does that ring any bells?

      • Aoshi00

I see.. so it’s not him then, but never heard of this guy.. I thought the main guy looks a bit like Sigma, glad it’s not the same char designer :) Not much on the main site other than the trailer though, but in HD, looks good. This actually looks more interesting than all the other S-E stuffs, sick of countless FF/KH spinoffs…http://dlgames.square-enix.com/necromachina/

      PSX Strider looked so badass…

  • cowcow

Its funny how the comments 180′d from the last article now that everyone knows who is working on the art design….

  • Ereek

Oh, I didn’t see this when it was announced.

It actually looks interesting, I love me some sidescrollers.

  • Electrium

As much as I’d like to complain that all this guy does is ninjas, he’s just so freakin’ good at it.

  • godmars

Really wish they had gone with sprites. Polygons are ruining it for me.

Ok, now I really want to see a release date :|

  • Asura

After Muramasa nothing 2D looks good anymore…

  • capristrider

WOW! Thats got my attention! Osman/Cannon Dancer is a very cult game and is pretty cool (spiritual sequel to Strider). I now feel oblige to say with “Isuke” working on Necromachina and with “SEnix’s” backing, I’m looking forward to this game. Multi-player looks fun!

If only Capcom, Isuke and Moto Kikaku(manga artists group) can come together and make that elusive “Strider 3″….

    • Jellybit

I adored Osman. It had a terrible boss-rush final area (that I still haven’t made it through), but the rest of the game was incredible.

  • i387

Who is developing that game and where?

  • vrakanox

So is the one in yellow a guy or a girl?

  • Aoshi00

what’s the deal w/ you replies? over 80% of the time they appear as gibberish symbols.

  • cowcow

I dunno. Glitch in the Matrix?
