This Week In Sales: Blue Roses Trampled By A Pokémon Stampede

The week of September 13th – 19th looks to have been busy one for Japanese retailers. With seven new releases in the top-20 chart for the week, what you see is a pleasantly diverse line-up of games across different publishers.

Leading the charts at #1 were, of course, Pokémon Black / White with 2.55 million units. This number differs from Enterbrain’s reported 2.63 million, but ultimately, they amount to the same thing: a lot.

Everything else on the top-20 charted far below in terms of actual sales numbers. Square Enix’s Front Mission Evolved grabbed the #2 spot with 51,084 units sold on the PS3 and the #12 spot with 7,792 units on the Xbox 360. Following at #3 was Konami’s latest Yu-Gi-Oh! title, while Halo: Reach bagged the #4 spot with 44,413 units sold.

Meanwhile, unsurprisingly, the large majority of the market seemed to ignore the release of Blue Roses on the PSP, published by Nippon Ichi Software. Perhaps the game might have done better during a less crowded week?

One last point of note: Media-Create’s numbers have Monster Hunter Diary at 428,677, while Capcom’s own figures put it at 500,000 units as of yesterday. This sort of disparity is common between different sales trackers, but we aren’t certain which one Capcom are using.

Wow Yugioh 5D’s Tag Force 5 outsold Halo: Reach, impressive.

    Blue Roses…:(

  • joesz

I just got my black version and I’m intending to play it as fast as I finish japanese version of golden heart that I bough months ago.

  • shion16

good sales for halo reach (considering this is japan) o.oand seriously……monhun and pokemon are amazing xD
minimal effort and a lot of profits

  • JustaGenericUser

That’s what NIS gets for releasing it the same time as Poke-freakin’-mon.

    • Hraesvelgr

Or there just wasn’t much interest in it.

…Yeah, I don’t think Blue Roses would have done much better even if it wasn’t released during the Pokémon steamroller….though I guess it’s thanks to Pokémon that such a low sales number made it that high in the charts.

Outside of ZHP, many of the PSP games NIS has published seem to have performed similarly. Or worse.

the game isn’t that bad in my opinion, is just… new, and in these times, to do new stuff is pretty hard

  • Methylene

It’s a wonder why anyone would release something at the same time as Pokémon though…

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Because the game isnt on the DS…

      • Methylene

So? Even if the other games are on other consoles, the focus is still on Pokémon and the DS.

The video game industry works as a whole.

I mean it doesnt make sense to leave PSP owners straggling with no titles. Based on the sales Pokemon didnt sap all of the videogame sales from the entire market, look at YGO5D’s that launched and sold 50K opening.

If you have a great marketing campaign and a strong series then go and release with PKMN

          • Methylene

50K compared to 2 million is nothing. I think it’s safe to say that Pokémon did sap everything.

          • http://several-hours-into-the-game.blogspot.com/ Nika

while 50K might be nothing compared to 2 million, but then again what CAN compete with that?

  • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

Haha, was it really necessary to put a tittle like that? xD but 8th place isnt that bad

  • Tom_Phoenix

Waw, I am completely shocked that Halo did as well as it did. I honestly expected less. That said, while I was wrong about “FME trampeling all over Halo”, it still outsold Halo.Anyway, looking at this chart is really hilarious. The disrepancy between the two Pokémon titles and everything else is just astounding. That said, I am suprised that Black is the better selling one. I would have thought more people would have liked the black pokémon featured in White. :P
