Disgaea 4 Details Slip Out Of The Netherworld

By Spencer . September 27, 2010 . 11:49pm

imageDengeki PlayStation has feature on Disgaea 4 with nuggets of news. New to Disgaea 4 is a Professor job and a union command for monsters. Another class system change is Disgaea 4 drops gender differences. Nippon Ichi also tweaked the tower system so its possible to move and pick up objects in Disgaea 4.

The story doesn’t just involve vampires like Valbatoze, the main character. Disgaea 4 also has werewolves and of course demons. The three races have differences and are integral to the story. Dengeki also mentions the lowest level of hell is a prison. Hey, wait… doesn’t that sound like another Nippon Ichi game, Criminal Girls?

Disgaea 4 levels up in Japan on February 24, 2011 before its thrown to North America for a summer release.

“Another class system change is Disgaea 4 drops gender differences.”

Uhh… wait, what does this mean? And why am I sensing that whatever it means, it’s not good?

    • With respect to the class system, there won’t be differences for, as an example, male warriors and female warriors.

      • Locklear93

The screenshot posted by Nyoron above disproves that. It shows both the male and female fighters, from the Disgaea 4 trailer, during character creation. They’re also statted differently. My take would be mistranslation, or Dengeki didn’t get the whole situation explained accurately.

Edit: Another possibility–dropping SOME gender differences. Disgaea 3 introduced several new gender splits that I don’t think most people bothered with: male archers, gunners, male healers. Those could go, and I really wouldn’t care. :P

        • It could be that the gender make some differences or effects in battles aside for having two gender for each class.

          • LastFootnote

That’s been the case for a while now, though. In Disgaea 3, they even have a completely different set of Evilities (passive abilities).

Wonder what they mean by that. From the trailer it looks like the same slight differences are still around.

    • I doubt they’ll ever get rid of them, along with the (female) Mages and the (male) Skulls. They’ve been mainstays since the first game, and even if they drop basically every class having a different gender, they’ll still have some variants.

What someone I know theorizes is that it’s more they’ll drop the stat differences between female and male characters of the same basic class, so it’ll be more aesthetic/preference. Which I hope so, I just don’t want them to get rid of the male Samurai (because of the female Exorcist) and the Kunoichi (since the male Ninja is also confirmed for the game).

At first glance, that’s what I thought, but given that screenshot (I’m assuming is from D4), it looks like there are still stat differences. So now I’m stumped.

        • Locklear93

Yeah, that’s from the D4 trailer, when it hit on character creation.

        • Huh, well, then I don’t know what the heck they’re doing here! Though they might be keeping the stat differences for the Warriors and Spellcasters since that’s what’s been there for eternity.

  • I liked the part where he talks about gender differences.

“Mommy, what’s that thing sticking out of that boy?”

  • More Disgaea 4 news makes this an awesome day already. Im desiring to see of the professor class. Hopefully its actually combat ready (I wonder if the skin will look like Kurtis) but anyway, hopefully it isnt like the cheerleader class. I think making each gender equal will be beneficial.

I just love that line >_<

I’m intrigued by the union system for the monsters. I definitely don’t use monsters enough in any of the Disgaea titles, and I give a thumbs up to anything that could get me to use them more.

    disgaea is just harddddddd!

  • I love how she lifts that axe, as if it’s pure routine.

  • Hm…I wonder will there be Criminal Girls cameo….

  • glemtvapen

    Man those sprites are CRISP.

  • Draparde

I cant wait for even more news about new things in this game xD

  • Day2Day

Disgaea 2 had specific differences for the male vs female classes (Female mages had lower spellcasting costs whereas male mages learned spells at lower levels, for example). I’m wondering how that system will change…

Also, those sprites look absolutely gorgeous.

The screen shots look so pretty. I’m not really a Disgaea fan (only played a bit of the first game), but those sprites alone are making me interested.

Wonder if I could just jump into this one without playing 2 or 3….?
