Ys: The Oath In Felghana Has 1,900 Lines Of Voice Acting

For a silent hero, Adol has talkative friends. Ys: The Oath in Felghana has over 1,900 lines of voice acting.

Being a re-imagining of Ys III: Wanderers of Ys, Ys: The Oath in Felghana looks considerably different from the side-scroller Falcom developed over twenty years ago. The PSP version, which Xseed has slated for the holidays in North America, is a bit different from the Japan-only PC release. Here’s a look at both platforms…

… plus a bunch of screenshots from Xseed’s localization.

Any chance you can turn the voice acting off in this as you could in 7? I played the original PC Felghana with no voices, and I generally don’t care for US dubs too often, or voice acting in most RPGs in general.

  • Only 1900 lines of text?! Even Monopoly Streets has 1100 lines of dialogue, Im not sure to even be impressed.

    • See, what happens when you give an Ys game more than that is that the story becomes a bloated, unlikeable mess like Ys Seven’s. Seven was otherwise an outstanding game but the verbose cutscenes reaaaally dragged i down on the first playthrough.

Voiced lines sir, Voiced ;) There’s prolly more of unvoiced txt in the game to deal with

    • You’re absolutely ridiculous.

  • One of the few games I consider to be absolutely perfect, and almost surely my favorite game of all time. I’ve beaten the PC version once every 2 months or so since I got it back in 2007, and I’m definitely picking up the PSP one day 1

Man, are you serious? This was one of my most hated Ys games on the PC. The level and boss designs were just so incredibly ugly and the story…well, it was even worse with the whole “evil minions posing as clergy within the church” garbage. The whole plot was just so unoriginal. Now looking at the English dialogue in the screenshots, it looks as though the story is just as bad if not worse in English than it was in Japanese. Man, who are they trying to make Dogi pretend to be with this: “Am I like, covered in monster gore” crap? Dogi sounds like a freaking Valley Girl.

Who plays Ys for the story?

        • falcomgamefan

Uh, people who play RPGs and that’s probably why a bunch of people are going to be suckered into buying Oath in Felghana because they think that’s what they’re getting… And admittedly, Ys games really aren’t that fulfilling to begin with when it comes to action, either, even when you do have all the best equipment because there are only a handful of moves you can do anyway. Ys ain’t no Devil May Cry or Bayonetta with badass combos, that’s for sure.

          • Exkaiser

Personally, I enjoyed Oath more than Devil May Cry.

  • After playing the perfect game known as Ys Seven, I’m very excited about Oath of Felghana. I’d pre-order, but EB/gamestop.ca doesn’t even have it on their list yet.

  • Ooo~ I can’t wait for it! XD

  • Xeahnort

    just beat YS Seven.

Cannot wait till next month to pick oath in felghana.

  • Can’t wait for this, have the premium edition pre-ordered, just waiting for a release date.

Hopefully Ys I & II Chronicles gets a premium edition also, to complete the set.

Then onto the Sora no Kiseki trilogy!
