Doujin Side Scroller Crescent Pale Mist Coming To PS3

By Spencer . October 24, 2010 . 9:54am

imageRockin’ Android is continuing their mission of bringing doujin games to consoles with Crescent Pale Mist. The North America publisher of Suguri and Gundemonium picked up the rights to Crescent Pale Mist a few months ago.

The game popped up in the ESRB database as a PlayStation 3 and PSP title yesterday. Here’s how the rating board describes it.

This is a side-scrolling adventure game in which players help a young witch named Yonou traverse another dimension to uncover the source of a magical mist. Players run and jump between the background and foreground of each level while using sword and laser attacks to slash at fantastical monsters (e.g., dragons, zombies, bat-like creatures, "living armor" suits). Some battles are fast-paced and frenetic; defeated enemies generally disappear in explosive bursts of colorful light.

I think this video does a better job.

A humble thanks to everyone who sent this in!

  • WOWZORZ, this game is a must buy for me!!!!!!!!!1111 lol, Screw the lack of voice acting, the graphical effects, the slashing, sound, and character design are all wins in my book. I need this now!

  • kupomogli

Looks cool, but looks like it’d get repetitive really fast.

    • Code

Yeah agreed, now if the entire game was composed of the shmup-esque boss battles at the end I’d be more interested.

  • HPN

Wow ….. must have this game!

  • Guest

I read that as side scrolling shooter my surprised when i saw the trailer. It looks great. Backgrounds are empty though, wish they did more with them.

  • Kris

That looks remarkably fun! Reminds me a bit of a more combo-heavy strider. I hope Rockin’ Android releases a demo though, I kind of regret purchasing Hitogata Happa in the Gundemonium Collection. I’d hate for that to happen again here.

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I was curious about the Gundemonium games… What was so bad about the one you bought?

      • M’iau M’iaut

If its the one I’m remembering, it has a nasty ‘run out of time element and you die’ that is handled unclearly and is an exceedingly tight window to get finished.

        • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

That kind of thing raises my blood pressure.

          • M’iau M’iaut

Even on the bleeding first boss, I get to him without dying but can’t get halfway through him until the warnings start going off.

It certainly doesn’t allow one any enjoyment or to experience and explore a game that obviously was given a great deal of care and love on the design side.

    • Apollokids

I hope it ships with an option for INSANE difficulty. I know you guys are aching for it. Ever play Shinobi for the ps2? Yeah i didn’t think so…

  • goronyan

Played this quite a while ago, kinda repetitive but it have anything u would expect from a doujin game.

I really wish tennen-sozai games to be released in psn

  • kactaplb

Game was amazingly hard… Couldn’t ever get past stage 2…

  • NeoTechni

Looks overly simplistic. I wouldn’t be willing to pay very much for it. Especially without voice acting or widescreen support.

    • You honestly don’t know what an indie game/doujin game is do you…

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Seems like Playstation Mini material. That boss battle was by far the most interesting segment of the vid. The giant Cthulu crustacean at the end was kind of cool too.

    • I don’t think the game would be 100MB or less…

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

You could be right but it’s just a vibe I get from it. Though you’d be surprised how small files can get with some highly optimized coding. Besides, that FAST (F-Zero looking racing) game is a Wiiware title and the cap on those are 40mb. That looks WAY more graphically intensive than this:

        • Seeing that the Gundemonium Collection isn’t a PSN Mini, I don’t think Crescent Pale Mist will be. WiiWare’s the only real way to get an indie game on the Wii without going through a publisher, distributor, and retailer.

Besides, the PSP and PS3 don’t have a ridiculously small file size limitation in respect to downloadable PSN games.

  • neetloaf

    I love Rockin’ Android.

  • Beautiful.
Come on, fate, let that PS3 land on my hands already. December is too far away.

Very glad to see RA again, too. I was just thinking about them.

    • It also says PSP… hopefully it will be one of those PSN games that’s playable on both systems.

  • Darkrise

Whoa, that. Looks. Fun! Can’t wait till this get’s released!

  • MGSBigBoss

Im interested in this… is this PS3/PSP like 1 download and can play on both or do I have to pick one over the other and also what are the differences between the ps3 and psp version if there are any?

  • First day download!

  • Speaking of Rockin’ Android… I need to get SUGURI…

  • ‘Bout time they moved forward on this, I’ve been looking forward to it (and I reminded them that if they never moved on CPM, *I* would >:) ). I do hope they go with a PC release as well, though, for us scrubs who lack a PS3. Though I could get the PSP version. Hm…

  • Looks like I’ll be playing through this AGAIN.

  • Mnnn, I’m definitely getting a Ys-type feeling from this. Kinda what I imagined a semi-recent Ys Sidescroller would play like. Cool stuff~

  • SupaPhly

hopefully it’s better than gundemonium collection

  • TyeTheCzar

Just wondering… how good is RA’s localization?
