Aya Is A Bit More Covered Up In Her Knight Costume

By Spencer . November 16, 2010 . 8:23pm

Catering to Renaissance Fair attendees (perhaps?), Square Enix decided to give Aya Brea a Knight costume for The 3rd Birthday. You can’t see it from this angle, but the costume exposes Aya’s back to the Twisted and a player’s gawking eyes. Even though it really is greaves and a leotard, this outfit, compared to the Maid uniform, seems a tad more reasonable.

The scan from this week’s issue of Famitsu also shows a new weapon. The gun-like weapon Aya is holding is called a Pile Bunker. It acts like a blunt weapon in the game. So, you can essentially play "knight" while whacking Twisted with a two-handed gun.

Yes keep adding more sexy costumes, Square. Do the hentai artists a favor!

  • Exkaiser

It’s really more of a piercing weapon.

  • Tokyo Guy

I love how in the weeks leading up to the release, instead of hearing about new gameplay elements or systems, or even supporting characters, we instead get costumes. Because obviously what will make-or-break this game is what kind of sub-culture or fetish Square can best appeal to.

    • Testsubject909

In Japan? I wouldn’t be surprised.

Remember, these ads are not directed to our culture, but to theirs…

    • vadde939

The worst part is that’s probably true. Otaku service=$$$$ as depressing as that is.

    • Yuan

There are new gameplay elements or systems like her Over Energy, Overdrive Kill, Level Up, etc. in this issue. It’s just that stuff like costume is the mostly surfaced info.

    • Aiddon

Probably because the ACTUAL gameplay has been revealed to be a shallow, repetitive TPS with a lack of interesting locales. This knight looks like it was taken straight from Monster Hunter with the weapon ripped from Tsukihime. Huh, why am I not surprised that Toriyama and Co would play something like that? Great story, but it was still an H-Game

      • gatotsu911

That’s what it looks like. After all, which requires more time, money and above all, TALENT: Improving the game mechanics and level design, or adding meaningless aesthetic modifications to appeal to otaku?

        • Aiddon

Too true; Tabeta’s only worthwhile release has been Crisis Core (which wasn’t even THAT good), while Toriyama has directed the TERRIBLE FFX-2 and FFXIII, while Nomura has pissed his talent away over the years and gone for style over substance. Shimomura is still awesome, but she’s only a composer

  • SneakyHawk

Out of all of Aya’s costumes, I like this one the most so far.

    • Aoshi00

Reminds me of Valkyria Chronicles, or the Lancer chainsaw from Gears of War.. sometimes more covered up is sexier like Soul Calibur 4’s Hilde.. but then these armors could still be hacked off right :)?

Sigh.. not sure if this game is for me since I wasn’t very good playing MGS PW on the PSP.. need PE on US PSN..

      • Pesmerga00

It actually reminds me more of Clare from Claymore. It’s probably the hair.

  • pridesin

God, How many costumes are they planning to add??
(Are these costumes going to be available as DLC contents or will be available in game ??).

    • Aoshi00

I was wondering about that too if it’s unlockables or DLC.. If it’s DLC forget it.

      • MemeticRichard

        Lol, it’s DLC.

Well, at least one of them – the Lightning costume.

  • godmars

More and more, I can’t shake the feeling that Square has lost it. Eve 3 isn’t about guns, finding and modding them, but costume changes.

    Its FFX-2 all over again.

  • joesz

They finally decided to respect Aya.

    • If you call costume play for a woman pushing 40 “respect”,

      yeah I guess they are.

      • Hey, don’t be mean about women in their 40s. I KNOW an actual woman in her 40s that make and wear costumes. She did Lulu from FFX as well and thinks she’s one of the actual best because she’s recreating it and whatnot to be extremely detailed to the actual design. There’s truly nothing wrong with it.

    • Wait till she get’s damaged and the armor comes off.

    • Baby got Back!…Open to deadly attacks from foreign entities.

  • Yay~ for more costumes!

I don’t know what’s everyone’s beef with the costumes.. if you don’t like ’em, just stick with the default outfit. :P I’m a fan of being able to customize one’s appearance and actually seeing it in-game.. it’s great to see something than the same thing over and over again. ._.

    • Hraesvelgr

Costumes are all fine and well, but it seems all they want to reveal about this game is new costumes. And, for the most part, they’re not even good costumes, just silly fanservice costumes to get torn up by the even more ridiculous clothing tearing system.

Frankly, for a game that’s supposed to be out in Japan in a little over a month, I’d say that’s pretty bad.

      • Costumes, in most part in video games, are nothing but fanservice anyways. There’s never a true GOOD costume when it comes to unlockables and whatnot. It’s just something to switch out of if you get tired/bored of the default ones.. kinda like my love for the Fatal Frame costumes. XD I love the original outfits, but also love the idea of changing outfits for something fresh.

Blah.. it’s just a screenshot from a magazine. Videos are best for actual footage.

  • d19xx

Aya, is gonna hunt some monsters and wear their hide as a hat…

  • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

A pile bunker? That is a dangerous weapon. Not very practical for actual melee (aren’t all anime weapons?), I imagine, but just look at it! The last I’ve seen of this weapon was in Wild Arms.

As for the outfit, at least it’s a step up from the maid one…(?)

  • PrinceHeir

all we need is a bunny suit and were good to go :)

    • raymk

I’ll actually take the bunnysuit. its a mature costume :)

  • neocatzon

Next! Mage costume! Aya will not bring handguns or pilebunker. She’ll bring magic stick in the world of science!!

    I’ll lol if that true

  • DemonicX

Wow, they are sure giving her a lot of costumes…even though that’s not a bad thing.

  • I can’t take this game seriously anymore.

  • GEZZ!!! give us costumes that make sense already!!!!… Like maybe her black dress from PE1 or what she had on in PE2…. Come on Square!.

    A Maid and A Knight?… that is just lame….

    • MemeticRichard

Her black dress is practically a given.

      So quit moaning already.

      • No I think will keep moaning, because they are already messing up this series but saying this is a reboot…. Reboots suck!….

I want a real Parasite Eve 3, not some lame action shooter clone of Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus…

This series had 2 roads to pick from… #1: Keep the story going. or #2: Become a crappy action series like Resident Evil did.. And yep it took the really awful second road….

  • tubers

I smell the trend from Monster Hunter and all it’s “copy cats” on that costume.

  • karasuKumo

These costumes are getting pretty random :S

  • She’s my knig….cougar in shining armor.

  • RupanIII

Huzzah! Fair maiden Lady Brea, thine wardrobe dost indeed hold many a wonder!if we had a forum we could start a thread Photoshopping random costumes onto Aya, see if any of them come to pass lol I’m gonna reserve judgment for now but hopefully they’re not placing more emphasis on costumes than gameplay
