Please talk about *this game* instead of lamenting PS3 Tales games for a change.
Does anyone follow the Radiant Mythology series? Thoughts?

    • SolidusSnake

I appreciate the spirit of peace-making behind your comment, but this series is a kind of hodgepodge with characters from past Tales games, so if you can’t play the other Tales games it’s probably not very relevant.

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I understand it’s fan-service, but I’m sure you can still play the game without knowing half the characters and still enjoy it. I remember introducing Super Smash Bros. 64 to my friends and many of them didn’t know anything about the characters but in the end they had fun anyway. I’m sure it didn’t seem as novel to them as it did to me but hey, a game’s a game, right?

        • The differences being that Smash Bros. and TotW are very different genres.

          • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

“I’m sure it didn’t seem as novel to them as it did to me but hey, a game’s a game, right?” There are no perfect analogies, and if you can play it you can have fun, regardless of degree.

      • But it’s not like NA can actually get RM3 anyway. And those who actually willing to play RM3 in Japanese, chances are they have played the other unlocalized games, and thus it’s not irrelevant for them.

    • I wonder what will happen to the series when Kanono becomes old xD

      • SanityCrisis

Well, the way they have the Kanonnos designed, there’s only room for one more Radiant Mythology game (they follow the seasons: Pasca is Spring, Earhart is summer, Grassvalley is fall. So after RM4, if there is one, they’ll have to break the theme to keep going, which is a cue that they should make new concept if they want to keep doing crossover games.)

Also, the Kanonnos are actually all /different people/. Pasca’s World Tree seed became Granide (the world of RM2) and Kanonno Earhart is the human reincarnation of the original Pasca Kanonno. Which makes me really curious as to see how they’re going to explain Grassvalley’s connection to the previous two and what the reason behind having all three of them be playable is. It has the potential to be really interesting….. or too ridiculous for me to take seriously.

But yeah. Kanonno doesn’t get old. She gets replaced by a lookalike each game. Though by the third game, yes, she is old as in it feels like she’s been overused.

    • Ereek

The first game was a disaster, stay far, far away from it. The second game is much better and fixes many of the problems in the first. As for this game, I obviously haven’t played it yet, but the only thing I’m getting from these three new characters is:1. Sophie reminds me too much of Iris 2’s Fee to take her design seriously.2. Will was voiced by Cam Clarke in English. Clarke has a bad tendency to make me remember his voice alone and absolutely nothing about the character. Crispin Freeman does this to me, too. Can someone give me a rundown?

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I’m kind of indifferent to Sophie’s design. Those ponytails are a bit much.

        A rundown of…?

        • Ereek

His background, haha. Clarke’s voice is a huge distraction for me. I remember the voice itself and not the character.

          • Yui

From what I remember, Will was some sort of sheriff-type thing on the [Legacy?] island. He was constantly embroiled in spats with his daughter but he tried hard, and was also a scientist. =D

Will edit if I remember more, or wiki him. =D

        • I LOVE Sophie’s ponytails. I used to set her as the default character and run around onscreen in circles just to see them fly in the wind. XD

      • Exkaiser

Will’s a scholar, a sheriff, and a dad. He’s the “old guy” of the group.

    • goronyan

I have played just half of the first game because i don’t spent too much time on portable games (monster hunter is an exception), so i can’t help ya sorry.
Ironically i’ve found interest in this sequel lol
Here’s a summary with news about this game (sorry i don’t have youtube links)

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

It’s cool. I’m just bored and wanted to facilitate some discussion. :P Thanks for the effort with the videos, but it seems like I have to log in…?

        • goronyan

yeah it requires to be registered sorry

    • epy

But… then I will have nothing to say …

Ok then, as mentioned by Ereek, the second game in the series is quite an improvement. Storywise it was adequate at best. The main selling point, besides of course using various characters from the Tales games in a very solid battle system, is to see the interaction of Tales characters that would otherwise never meet. I specially enjoyed the Viva Tales of! segment and quests. Also characters breaking the fourth wall and openly discussing their character archetypes, poll rankings and how they are treated by fans and developers (Veigue’s comment on being only treated as the guy that yells CLAIREEEEE all the time for example) are quite fun to watch.

While you may get enough fun out of the battle systemand , it is a game for fans of the Tales series, more so for the ones that have played pretty much every game in the series than the “casual” players that have gone maybe through, say, Symphonia and something else because of some of the fanservice elements heavily relying on your knowledge of the characters and the setting of their world.

Needless to say, I am very much looking forward to the title as it seems to improve further on the formula and adding even more characters.

  • Im gonna say it in spanish now, odio a namco bandai.

YOU KNOW, namco didnt even give full color to naruto ultimate ninja storm 2! IS ALL BLACK AND WHITE, how lame is that….

  • Dimentionalist

Fall off a cliff Namco, etc.

  • joesz

    C’mon be released!!

  • I want TotW:RM 2 first before this.

  • It’s awesome that Will is in the game… but it’s not awesome that I’ll likely never get to play the game in English…

  • superdry

yay! Marta is in the game. She was really cute in ToS sequel. Call me silly, but I think I’ll be importing this one mainly cuz of her unless the game is terrible.

Even if this one is not released in the US, we can always hope for a translation patch of some sort.

  • vadde939

Its nice to see Marta in this game. Symphonia 2 really doesn’t get enough love.

    • Exkaiser

I… think it gets just about as much love as it deserves, personally.

      • vadde939

XD Yeah I’m probably the only person in the world who actually liked Symphonia 2.

  • holyPaladin

    Judas meet Leon?

    LMAO I wonder what happen

    • ragnarok989

      My guess…TIME PARADOX!!!!!!

    • ForeverFidelis

Leon dies midway through the gameJudas is introduced.Just like Namco X Capcom. Perfect way to do it

  • PrinceHeir

    damn just damn.

    namcooooooooooooo :(

  • LynxAmali

*Insert mandatory “FAILCO” sucks comment here*

Time to break the fourth wall, a la- Innocent’s style! *points to fourth pic*

Look’s like, the chicks are rebelling. Here that, Lloyd? Run for cover! *points to third pic*

  • Leon and Judas both on screen at the same time? If this wasn’t an alternative universe game that allowed time paradoxes, the Tales of universe as we know it would no doubt implode.
