Lucius Malfoy’s Actor Voices Lucifel In El Shaddai

By Spencer . November 29, 2010 . 4:57pm

image El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron’s voice acting should be light years ahead of Arc Rise Fantasia. Ignition hired actors like Jason Isaacs for their game. Isaacs is best known for his role as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films.

He voices Lucifel, a time traveling archangel who guides Enoch in El Shaddai. Lucifel is fond of "now" and often brings Enoch gifts, like jeans, from our time. Enoch, the main character, is voiced by English actor Blake Ritson.

Definitely leave it to the theater trained Brits when it comes to dramatic acting :) I like him in HP & the Deathly Hallows.

  • Arcm

I believe he also voices “A certain Character” in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.I liked him in Castlevania so I will most likely enjoy his acting in this game.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

      Very cool cover-up, Nall!

      • Arcm

LOL, I’m sorry I didn’t even think about that being spoilers

    • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Was going to say something like that! I was really surprised with his performance in Castlevania. He was badass, so this is great news!

  • Hraesvelgr

Well, that’s neat and everything, but I wonder if the sales of the game will live up to these apparent expectations.

    • Neckbear

The concept is cool, the talent behind the game is there, all we need is to see how it turns out to be.

Honestly, if the game turns out to be good, as well, then they just sold a copy.

    • goronyan

Well i dare to say that El Shaddai has become “pop” in Japan, just the e3 trailer is about to reach 3.5 million views in nico douga (not even Bad Apple was this faster), MAD’s, and the catchphrase: “そんな(insert text here)で大丈夫か?” can be seen even in akiba streets and stores. At least there, also thanks to the jokes, some people have great expectations for this game

      • Guest

They appreciate uniqueness & style. Something Western game developers need to improve upon

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

It’s all thanks to Enoch’s handsome FACE. It just screams “I can’t believe it’s not butter, but divine righteous justice”!

  • SolidusSnake

If they can get the guy who plays Professor Snape to voice a character in this game, I will buy 10 copies.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

Alan Rickman. I’m quite surprised he hasn’t done any voice acting yet. I mean, he was the Metatron in Dogma, how hard can it be to hire him if Kevin Smith can hire him?

On a side note, Grimoire Weiss in Nier, is pretty much an impersonation of him.

      • Belenger

Dogma heh, was rewatching that movie about two days ago in BR quality, at any case he sorta did already voice acting on hitchikers guide to the galaxy, remember the depressing robot? Thats alan rickman for you, and yeah american weiss was pretty much a take on him.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

Oh, I totally forgot about him as Marvin. I try to forget that movie, as a fan of the books.

    • Aoshi00

Watch Die Hard 1 for more Alan Rickman goodness, w/ a beard :)…

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

That was the first I ever saw of him, actually. For the longest time, he was Hans Gruber to me, instead of Alan Rickman.

        • Aoshi00

yea, he was a pretty good evil German :) I saw Die Hard when I was a kid, I didn’t even realize Hans was Snape until I streamed it again recently, I was like hey that’s Snape! Also saw him in Love Actually, that was okay..

Ah Ignition, I still don’t know whether or not to strangle you yet XD They tend to flip flop through a lot of goods and bads…..very extreme flip flops >_>

  • gatotsu911

    Lucifel?? Really?

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

Yes, it’s Lucifel. Shane Bettenhausen explained why in this interview.

      http://www.siliconera.com/2010/06/22/all-about-el-shaddai-ascension-of-the-metatron/

      • gatotsu911

Huh. I don’t really see an explanation, but then again I didn’t comb every word. That’s… odd, and not exactly brilliant.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

He doesn’t really explain why, though, except to say that it’s intentional to use the “l” instead of the “r” at the end of the name.

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

That reminds me that I need to get out and watch Deathly Hallows Part 1. He was a great actor the series. Hopefully this wont be a game that has great voice acting but fails to have visuals to enhance the voicework,

  • Thiefofhearts

Man, I never trust any character voiced by Admiral Zhao…

  • BOYLANmonk

    Bleh.
I hate playing videogames that have voice acting. Videogames don’t need voice acting, dammit!
Why does everything have to be so serious and realistic?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

I’m starting to think board games are more your speed than videogames. Monopoly doesn’t talk. You should give it a shot.

      • BOYLANmonk

        Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

        • Guest

          Sleeping is good too

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

Hopefully, he won’t dream in HD or with voice acting, for that matter.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

By that logic, you should love silent films!

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

I think this game is serious, but realistic, ah, no. In most games you have the option to turn the voices off so I see no need to complain really, why would anyone want to read tomes of text? I was never a fan of reading while playing a game. If you want than then stick to vintage games of ye olden times or read novels or something.

    • BadenBadenPrinny

I think VN’s are more your speed

    • http://www.twitter.com/christaran Chris Taran

This is really funny! Looking forward to more comedy gold from you! :D

  • http://chronotwist.deviantart.com/ JustThisOne

Jeans? Awesome. Should bring a hair dresser for Enoch. Or a comb or something. Scissors maybe?

Anyway, his voice isn’t bad. He was in the Jumping gameplay posted earlier and he’s fine.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

This makes me happy. The art style of the game was enough to make it a must-have for me. This pretty much puts it over the top. Hard to believe this is coming from Ignition, but maybe they only screw up other people’s work.

As long as the platforming actually allows you to die if you miss a jump and if the enemies provide a suitable challenge, this should be a great game.

As someone who actually has studied theology, this game tickles me greatly.

  • tubers

Lucifel? Or is this Japanese for Lucifer? xD Oh well Lucifer is actually morning star but popularized as the devil himself. I wonder what’s the real meaning of the name in this game :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

I think it’s a mixture of L and R being the same letter in Japanese, with Ignition not wanting to deal with any controversy from religious groups over showing Lucifer in a positive light.

      • Aiddon

It might actually be just an alternate spelling. Lucifer is a Latin word and not the original name of the Devil in Hebrew is “Helel”

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1472407455 Charles Lupula

Well, if you want to get technical about it, it’s never actually explicitly stated that Lucifer and Satan are the same being. But then again, the fall of the rebel angels under Lucifer happened before the fall of angels under Semyaza in the book of Enoch, so the game is already going against the text a bit. The angels of Lucifer fell because of pride, while the Watchers fell mostly because of lust.

“It happened after the sons of men had multiplied in those days, that daughters were born to them, elegant and beautiful.
And when the angels, the sons of heaven beheld them, they became enamored of them, saying to each other
Come let us select for ourselves wives from the progeny of men, and let us beget children…
And men, being destroyed, cried out; and their voice reached to heaven.”
          Enoch 1 (7:1-8:9)

        • tubers

Yeah read that somewhere on the net too. I thought his name was even Luci (light) or something before he became Lucifer but that was just me. Helel was his Hebrew name like you said. I guess they purposely mixed it up to somewhat avoid controversy? Or just plain Japanese L and R thing?

    • BadenBadenPrinny

Lucifel was his name before he became a fallen angel IIRC

  • Pichi

Good that Ignition is really trying to step up their game. Hope they do the same for other areas and such or else it isn’t enough.

  • TyeTheCzar

I wonder if Ignition ditched that localization firm that did Muramasa and Arc Rise Fantasia.

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

The fact that they got Jason Isaacs is probably a sign that they did.

  • MarkMario

Is it sad to say that I would buy this game just to hear him!?

  • https://twitter.com/#!/SplashdownTiger STiger

Let’s hope the VA director doesn’t screw this up.

  • Aiddon

I suddenly realize that this is the SECOND time Jason Isaacs has voiced the Devil

  • Icon

Cool. So, does this mean Ignition’s giving us a quality localization? Guess we’ll find out.

  • http://twitter.com/oni_saru Gray Zelda

Will the Eng release still have the Japanese voices? I really liked Lucifel’s voice >.<

  • Code

    IT’S THAT FACE AGAIN omo;;

  • Chippel
