Oh, So Now The 3rd Birthday Has A Shower Scene

By Spencer . December 9, 2010 . 6:36pm

imageBack in August, director Hajime Tabata disappointed some Japanese bloggers by saying there wouldn’t be a shower scene in The 3rd Birthday. Tabata’s reason was logical enough, there wasn’t a place to put it in.

Caving to fan demand, The 3rd Birthday has a shower scene. Tabata posted this picture of Aya in a shower on Twitter.

The shower scene demand stems back to Parasite Eve II, which introduced a steamy video to the series.

  • Mr. SPencer?! Do you ever sleep, lol?! You are posting news stories at all times of the day (as it shows up on my timeline) and it seems they come at virtually any hour of the day?! Surely you dont stay up hours on end just hunkering down in front of the pc for the latest in news?!

Aya is Azn? I was under the impression that she was Estonian.

    • lol, she might be Asian, but born and raised in America and went to college in Virginia.

      • evilmoogle

Aya was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 20, 1972. She is of mixed ethnicity; her father whose name is unrevealed is a journalist, is Caucasian while her mother who is known as Mariko was Japanese.
        from the wiki.

the real question is, will she be a badass or a whiney emotional chick?

        • Hopefully not a whiny emo chick. XD I think we have enough of those in all medias.

  • PrinceHeir

    too bad it’s only a tease :D

maybe show her body during a steamy scene? that would be nice :)

please square announce this game and the Parasite Eve Archives already ^___^

    • What are you talking about? Square Enix already announced it for Europe and American for early 2011, Q1 right?

      • idk if it was announced or not for the US & Europe.. haven’t seen an article after the November 3rd one that mentions a release on the PSN outside of Japan. Lets hope that it WILL get released, since I haven’t played 2 myself and would love to replay 1 as well.

    • PrinceHeir

      ohh that’s great :D

still waiting for the Parasite Eve Archives :D

yeah spencer has been posting all day do you even sleep buddy? O_O

      • A true gamer is said to be able to play as they sleep.
Is the same for a gamer+blogger

      • Aoshi00

        Red bull :)?

  • Aiddon

    -head meets desk-

    • -hand meets head-

      • ChaosPaladinFayt

        -hand meets ****- O_o”

        • hush404

        • “ass?” It has to be, there’s only three asterisks!

          • ChaosPaladinFayt

woah woah language, lol. tsk tsk, it could be ear u know haha. lol fine ill change it xD

          • There’s now two other words that can be used.

          • SouskeSagara

      • tubers

        W/c head?

  • I wonder how they will incorporate it into the game without making it seem so random.

    • Aya is in a cementery, when she suddenly is absorbed by the earth… and loses conciousness…

After she wakes up, she find herself on a shower… “Its been a while since i last took one…” she thought…. She couldnt know why she thought about this, considering everything that has happened to her.

And just as if her body was moving by itself, Aya started to take a shower…
After a little time has passed, she suddenly feels dizzy, and then, she open her eyes. As she looks around, she find herself in that same graveyard lying in the black soil… “what? was it just a dream…?”

After asking that to herself, Aya think its better to forget anything has happened, and decided continue with her journey.

      See? easy xD

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

        Too easy, actually.

I thought you were going to go somewhere *lower* with “…just as if her body was moving by itself” followed by “her hand began moving by itself too,” and “she suddenly feels dizzy” leading to “she moans uncontrollably.”

        • haha, i wouldnt go that far xD

          • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

            Oh but you should. >:)

      • You write fanfics in your spare time, don’t you? >_<

        • No lol xD, but i admit i would pretty much like to write my own story… But i want to do it in english so it can reach more people on the internet, and i still dont think my english is good enough…

  • Aoshi00

Okay, so they know people are buying the game anyway shower scene or no shower scene, but I guess they are trying to get that 10% who still weren’t sold? Would it make me less of a person if I say I fall in that 10% *.* (I was never a Parasite Eve fan)? Show me that shiny L’Cie brand on Lightning (like Vanille’s on her thigh :) and I would die a happy man, it was so elusive…

Jokes aside, I really hate it it’s either physical or digital copy.. I want to take advantage of playing this on my new PSP Go (on TV w/ Dual shock 3), but I don’t think I would pay more and not even get the awesome cover art… they should let people who bought the physical copy buy the digital copy as well at a deep discount, if not outright for free..

Well, I guess I like Superfly’s song too, that would be in the US ver like Crisis’s Core’s Why right?

    • The PSN version doesn’t come with the code for Dissdia 012 either. Eh, I guess Square Enix will sell that as DLC anyway.

The US cover art should be the same, it’s a red box too with Aya on it. Don’t know if it’s shiny though!

      • Aoshi00

Right that too, but the Dissidia costume code isn’t terribly important to me, sucks you’re getting less though. I thought someone here mentioned 3rd Birthday would be sold slightly cheaper on Jpn PSN than UMD? Still, for us importing from Jpn PSN the yen tickets would be very hefty almost doubling the actual price, so not very practical at all..

I didn’t know this has a shiny cover too! But they always take the beautiful shine/sparkles away for the US ver., like for all the KH games..

        • tubers

You’re paying 1000 yen less for the DD version.

          • Aoshi00

I know, the retail ver is 5,800 yen (which I could import at $70 or less) but even w/ dd being 1000 yen less, getting a 5,000 yen PSN card would still cost you around $80 at least, even more than getting a boxed copy sans the dissidia code. Importing digitally is just way too expensive, I usually only d/l things I wouldn’t be able to get otherwise. I do like the convenience of playing w/o UMD and the spinning noise (too bad the Go’s battery is horrible), but it’s hard to fork out more money (effective price) for a digital download. And that’s what I meant by not caring about the code, I would give up the code if I could end up paying ~$10 less (it’s not even for this game and I don’t care about Dissidia), but I can’t buy a dd for $60.I guess it’s good for Jpn gamers though, if dd is always cheaper than retail then I really wouldn’t mind giving up on some boxes. Still feels expensive w/o getting anything physical though (I don’t mind $15-20 d/lable games but for full retail games it still feels a bit much..) Like I bought MGS PW alrdy, but later I double dipped (actually tripled if you count the Jpn ver) on the dd when it was on sale for $20 (they had to charge me sales tax), if it was $30 the regular price it would be a very hard buy, let alone getting this on PSN for $80.

  • cmurph666

Muhahahahahahaha~! For some strange reason this really excites me~!

    • There’s nothing strange about a boner.

      • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Do not want to picture cmurph’s avatar with a boner but Mao’s expressing is hilariously bad/good for many things…

I’m sure he meant *excites his soul*… HIS SOUL Gawdamet. XD

Something’s horrifically unsettling about your Bubbles avatar looking down at those words… reminds me of… elementary school sex-ed? What a horrible program…

    • Testsubject909

Now I await to see what sort of Eeeevil experiments your millions of E.Q. will come up with…

You DO have an evil experiment worthy of your genius involving Aya’s shower scene, right?

  • Hraesvelgr

Caving to fan demand for pointless fanservice is part of what’s killing (some) Japanese games. This game is seemingly just becoming a cash-in for people who love unnecessary fanservice, similar to a large number of modern anime titles (see: Highschool of the Dead).

    • DUDE!!!! Please leave your negativity at your ISP! The more fanservice the better the product, never have I seen people complain about it, I love it!

      • SneakyHawk

All I’m going to say here is that too much fanservice can be a bad thing.

        • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I’d have to agree here. Too much fanservice (especially badly timed) have ruined many animes for me.

        • tubers

Specially that it can easily go hand in hand with gameplay being sacrificed.. Let’s see how this comes out tho.

      • Hraesvelgr

I can tolerate fanservice in any media, but anything that relies solely on fanservice to get more money is bad in my eyes.

        • thebanditking

then their are far guiltier publishers out there then S-E by that definition.

      • You probably liked Haruhi Suzumiya too.

        • SolidusSnake

          No, just endless eight.

    • NoElixirs

I’m in agreement here. An abundance of fan service..

    • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

I agree for the most part, but sex and violence is *the core* of Highschool of the Dead; without those things it would be nothing. If you’re not watching it for those elements, you should be watching something else.

On the other hand, anime that makes any attempt to be dramatic or wishes to be taken seriously by its audiences should cut down on it (completely, unless employed in a meaningful manner).

      • Hraesvelgr

Yeah, but I was watching HOTD for zombie action. After the first few episodes, though, the fanservice became absolutely unbearable, to the point of where it seemed like the only point of the show was panty shots or jiggling breasts.

        • Yusaku_Matsuda70s

Ah so you had certain expectations. Understandable, then. I had zero expectations, didn’t even know what it was, and the character designer clued me to the ecchi. I was amused. They should have made it straight up Hentai, full on sex. It would be acceptable in that context, and you would know what you were getting into (half joking).

Have you seen Tokyo Majin, by any chance?

        • I’m getting wet!

        • thebanditking

I will agree with you on this, HOTD is way over the top, though I was just glad the fan service was of “almost” legal girls and not under age loli’s like most anime feature these days.

    • PrinceHeir

      ehh it all depends.

after seeing some gameplay i can rest assure it’s gonna be one hell of a game. the customization seems seemingless not to mention the CG is just wow.

i agree too much fanservice can make a bad rep in some people but i think the way they did it is just so they can get the attention of most gamers not to mention X-mas is already near don’t you want Aya to bring you some gifts? :D

    • Honestly though, this seems harmless. I can expect it to occur at the beginning of the game or after one of the missions (the first one) that was intense for Aya. and this it dosen’t disrupt the game in anyway.

I get what your saying. It’s one of the reasons I hated the anime To Love Ru. But int this case I think it’s fine. it’s not like it’s part of a transformation sequence or it occurs when you load a game. in fact it seems to be a running gag, which makes it a fitting tribute.

    • Aiddon

yes, this is pretty pointless. The costumes are even worse as they’re SO clearly for fanservice that it’s rather telling how SE devotes entire articles to them and barely talks about gameplay.

HOTD also annoyed me to no end after awhile. The zombie killing was fine, but the fanservice was too much. What’s hilarious is that the anime is WAAAY more fanservicey than the original manga.

    • thebanditking

I disagree, this game was worked on for a long time before this was thrown in. So I have no reason to think this will hamper the game in any way, besides if throwing in a few seconds of side boob and cheeks makes this game sell better then they can work on another entry and bring the series back, which I am all for. Its not like other companies have not shamelessly thrown in cheesecake moments like this before, Mass Effect, God of War and GTA for years used sex scenes to help sell their games, and I for the record would rather look at one nude girl then one of Bioware’s terribly implemented grind sessions again.

  • I know this is off topic but I have lost my mind trying to find a straight answer, so I’m gonna ask you guys since I know some of you import.

Here it is, plain and simple.

I’ve never imported before, I want to import Monster Hunter Portable 3rd and I live in America, Kansas specifically. Will I have to pay duty taxes or import taxes, and how much could that be? I’m sorry but I can’t think of anything else.

    • You won’t have to pay any duties or taxes on video games. Import away.

    • Aoshi00

Short answer, no duty taxes for importing games. Thank god customs doesn’t slap on a big VAT like Europe :) The only thing standing btwn you and importing a Jpn game is probably the bad yen-dollar exchange rate right now. Otherwise it’s just cost of the game + shipping.

  • JustaGenericUser

Congratulations! You now got… 10 more people to play it!

  • Xeahnort

Why all the fuss about a hot blonde taking a shower?

    • Because she’s a hot blonde taking a shower.

    • Because they first said they wouldnt do it but they fell in the fanservice limitless hole

  • [The Hunter] Doomrider

    Well, this is surprising.

  • Oh those silly Japanese and their incessant need to add fan service into everything. Don’t they know that real pr0n has been readily available for a few decades by now?

  • gatotsu911

Every day you disgust me more and more, Square Enix.

    • Aiddon

it’s turning into a big, black hole of mediocrity. Square desperately needs to be rid of Toriyama, Kitase, and Nomura.

  • So Japan’s gamers go to the barricades for a shower scene, but are too lazy to check out some underdog games?

  • The sex appeal of this game just keeps increasing, which is all the reason more I think the custom boxart I did for the game would be more matching, the Japanese boxart is just awful. Tell me what you guys think of it: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v42/Buuhan1/?action=view&current=3rdbdayhq.png

  • cj_iwakura

Well, now we know what her next costume is.

  • XseiroTaire

I’m very suspicous of this so called “fan demand”, as it seems to be just a part of all these fanservice announcements to “increase hype” as it comes closer to it’s release… I’m betting Tabata had this all planned from the beginning.
Though its not like I’m dissapointed with this particular announcement.

    • kactaplb

      You’d be surprised.

But the game marketing is pretty much normal. The game itself has probably been done for some time. Just touching it up and adding in fun little things. aya in santa suit? check. destructible clothing? check.
