Falcom Working On A "Trails Series" For PSP Next Year

By Spencer . December 20, 2010 . 11:06pm

imageFalcom announced, more like teased, a new game in the Trails series. This extension of their popular Legend of the Heroes series covers Zero no Kiseki and The Legend Heroes: Trails in the Sky games Xseed is working on localizing.

No details were given about the title, other than its a large scale story RPG associated with the "Trails (Kiseki) series."

The half-announced Trails title is on track for release next year. Like most of Falcom’s releases, it is also a PSP game. Xseed has a lot of catching up to do, especially if they pick up Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki and Zero no Kiseki.

Special thanks Denpa no Sekai and Jah-Keem for e-mailing us with a tip!

  • I hope we do get these other games released here, I hate for some PSP2 to release and cause us to miss out on the games :(

  • malek86

I wonder if we’re gonna see small developers stay on the PSP, because of the higher development costs on the 3DS.

    • hadjimurad

i guess i wouldn’t mind that one bit, now that santa is finally bringing me a psp! my wish: STING! with a ground up Dept. of Heaven episode for the psp.

LOL trails, i hope it isn’t a ripoff of the “Tales” series…

    • I’m guessing you haven’t heard of this before, but the the Legend of the Heroes: Trails in the Sky series has nothing to do with “Tales” its a traditional RPG…

It also goes by the subtitle Sora no Kiseki and Xseed is bringing those games over to the states. The prequel, Zero no Kiseki (Trails of Zero) came out just a few months ago.

      • ChaosPaladinFayt

LOL yea i kno it has nothing to do with Tales. But they sorta sounds similar. Anyways, i havent heard of Trails series, thanks for informing though. I only know of Zero no Kiseki haha.

Perhaps you remember the first three Legend of Heroes games Namco released a few years ago?

This is basically the sequel trilogy, which I’m probably guessing you know already. So, if you enjoyed that, I’d think that these games would be roughly the same, but with a much better translation and probably better quality overall.

  • I can’t wait to have my hand on Zero no Kiseki…

  • i dont know wtf is it about but i already want it

  • XSEED can skip Ys vs Sora no Kiseki. Besides the soundtrack it was pretty awful after a few hours. This announcement has me excited, too, but I hope that they don’t neglect their other series/development of new IPs in favor of Eiyuu Densetsu just because of its newfound popularity. They have a lot of games/series that could greatly benefit from a modern facelift (Sorcerian, Popful Mail and Dragon Slayer are coming to mind), should they choose to invest the time/money into them.

    • You are the only one ive seen calling it awful >_> dont go telling XSEED not to localize it, if you didnt like it, it doesn’t means everybody else will also not like it

      • What was dudes name, falcomgamefan, I dont recall hearing anything positive on the game from him either, just saiyan

        • Dont know him/her, but i played the game once by myself for at least 2 hours, and found it really classical rpg, but with new stuff, it seems the choice the MC does are important, the characters looked nice, it felt like i was playing one of those good ol’ rpgs we havent seen in a while.

Seriously, is better if you guide your actions by your own thinking, i only read reviews to see other’s opinion, but i mainly focus on watching videos in youtube and thinking if its something that would appeal to me.

Ohhh… I think you’re referring to Sora no Kiseki. The RPG, aka Trails in the Sky. That’s the classic RPG. The one that Xseed is already localizing, along with its two sequels.

Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki is a fighting game crossover using Ys and Sora characters. That’s what Jon Stachewicz was referring to, and I agree with him.

          • Ohhh! Darn i just saw it was the “YS vs. ” thing , ahh i was like completely thinking he was talking about sora no kiseki, considering the theme of this post and all ._., i cant comment about that crossover, havent played it.

            Sorry -.-‘

          • Nooo, Sora no Kiseki is incredible. It’s Ys vs Sora no Kiseki that sucks

      • neo_firenze

I imported Ys Vs. SnK, and I agree that it’s not that great. Probably Falcom’s weakest PSP release in my eyes (including the more obscure stuff like Vantage Master, Zwei!!, Brandish, Gurumin). I dunno that I’d call it awful, but it’s certainly not great. It IS a pretty easy localization since there’s fairly little text (it’s a fighting game using the Ys Seven engine), but it’s also a fairly forgettable game because the engine doesn’t really work that great for a dedicated fighter.

I’d much rather Xseed put resources to work on getting done with the SnK localizations then moving on Zero no Kiseki 1 (and now apparently 2). Or Brandish, or Zwei!!, or a PSP port of Ys Origins, or a new Ys game or Ys remake, or a new Sorcerian, etc…

I can tell you I enjoyed it more than Tales of VS

  • I have my doubts of TitS 2nd and the 3rd actually coming out so this have even less chance.

    • Well I guess we all just need to make sure to buy the first one and then the others so Xseen can bring them out for us. Guess I will buy it to help the chances of the series continuing.

  • I guess it’s Zero no Kiseki 2 because at the end of the first one it says in english “To be continued…the destination chapter”

  • RAVENKam

More reason to own a psp : )

  • The girl on the Thumbnail Reminds me of Kid.

  • MasterXHunter

Well apparently Zero no Kiseki set itself up for a sequel, so seems like that’s what it would be.
