How To Play Rurouni Kenshin: Saisen

The basic controls for Rurouni Kenshin: Saisen are simple enough to pick up. Back to guard, down to crouch, square for weak attacks, triangle for a medium attack, and circle for a strong attack. X is for jump, but that isn’t the only kind of jump in the PSP fighter.

You can press down and X to do a high jump. Hit X while you’re in mid-air for a double jump. Banpresto also created a "search jump." This move, activated by pressing down, towards then jump has players leap towards an enemy. It’s something like a quick shuffle to close distance.

image All characters also have the ability to counter attacks. Trigger a repel defensive move by guarding and hitting an attack button right before an enemy strikes you. As an example, Kenshin blocks the blow and retaliates with an arched sword throw.

The repel attack takes up 1/4 of a player’s sword spirit bar. This meter automatically fills up when you take damage or attack. Alternatively, you can charge the meter by holding the L button. When it’s full you can unleash a powerful secret technique.

LOL at the two mooks from chapter 1 watching you in the background.

Mook? That’s Battosai the Man-Slayer!…and then taken out with one hit

That’s one of the first things I noticed before too, Hiruma Gohei Bros, I like the attention they put into the background for 2D (or 2.5D) fighting games. It’s just nice to see Kenshin back in some form and this game doesn’t look too shabby so far w/ a pretty big roster of fighters, they even cramped in Fuji.

If there’s gonna be launcher (set up for aerial raves) in this game, it’ll have a melty blood or TvC feel which will be really sweet

As it stands, this game sounds more like Fate/Unlimited Codes or perhaps the Kenichi fighting game. I figured this game would be pure gutter trash, but if it ends up like Kenichi, then it could be quite fun. Having three attack buttons is a good sign and I like the variety in jumps. Hopefully, combat is fast paced and fun.

Oh there is a Kenichi fighting game? That must’ve slipped under my radar. Thank you!

Yeah the Kenichi game is surprisingly great I liked it a lot. If only another anime season would be green lit. : (

There was also a Samurai Deeper Kyo fighting game for PS1 and a Sunday vs Magazine fighting game for PSP and a Sunday vs Magazine RPG for DS and a Sunday vs Magazine baseball game for DS and an RPG based on Go Nagai’s manga work (Devilman, Cutey Honey, Violence Jack, Getter Robo etc) for GBA

Sounds somewhat SNK’ish control wise. Hopefully the pace of Rurouni Kenshin: Saisen won’t be slow
