By Ishaan . January 11, 2011 . 11:31am

While sniffing around for game art last week, we also came across some colourful concept art work done for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, by Diego Gisbert Llorens. Mr. Llorens is a freelance artist residing in Madrid, Spain. Here’s some of his work on Lords of Shadow:

Can anyone tell me why the majority of Japanese concept artists don’t post their works (after their contracts are over) on internet forums unlike the majority of western concept artists?
Is it because Japanese companies are more “strict” regarding the rights of their works?Or is it because of the Japanese’s usually more humble and shy nature?

Because then there will be no point in releasing the art work in japanese stores.

Many western artists post their art at sites like conceptart and their companies release the art books later. It happened with Uncharted 2 and God of War (i’m not sure if they released a book for GoW but i’ve seen art posted in various sites).I think it’s a good promotion both for the game as well as the artist.
That’s why i don’t see why Japanese concept artists don’t do the same.In some games it’s quite difficult even to find out their names…

Maybe they haven’t done as many? Or they’re saving them to sell the separate artbooks.. I like looking at these artworks at the design stage, very amazing, would definitely get that Ninja Theory one for Heavenly Sword and Enslaved if they have one.. The game lets you unlock the pieces in the art gallery w/ the points you earned.. but you have to spend on upgrading your moves and buying the artwork..

  • Great job mods on removing the nonsensical post. Thumbs up

I absolutely loved this game. I thought it was was a great reboot.

Not dissing Iga or anything but his two 3d Castlevania games weren’t exactly fun imo….. though I did play and beat them both. Iga is king of 2d Castlevania though still having fun with Harmony of Despair.

I loved this reboot as well. I actually only played about half of this so far.. but I got the Jpn ver as well for the Jpn dub.. the artists that did these are amazing.. I recently popped in Lament of Innocence, yeah, it’s not exactly fun.. hope Iga would do some 2D ones for the 3DS.. Harmony of Despair is more for multiplayer though right?

      • Arcm

Yeah, its really geared toward multiplayer and the only reason I still play it every now and again is because its one of those games were you get satisfaction in getting rare loot from enemies and bosses its a little addicting.

I hope for a Harmony of Despair Deluxe edition to be released on ps3 eventually since I probably won’t buy the DLC for the 360 release.

actually for me i enjoyed the hell out of Curse of Darkness and Lament of Innocence, the art style, music and the atmosphere fits perfectly as a castlevania game, the gameplay have mixed receptions but overall i enjoyed it, the story about the origin of dracula and that dracula has tons of generals like isaac not to mention the music is sooo addicting. shame people bash this due to it’s level design and gameplay.

if only they made it like Demon Souls or Devil May Cry this would have been an amazing game ^^

      • Arcm

I liked Curse of Darkness mainly because of the weird relationship Issac had with Hector. I also liked it was more RPG like than LoI.

I’ll probably go back to it in a few years and change my opinion about the two ps2 games. I went back and played the N64 Castlevanias about 4 years ago and really enjoyed them, even though I remember not liking them a whole lot when they first came out.

        • PrinceHeir

definitely you should if you have the time :D

yup i kinda like how obsessive isaac is to dracula not to mention
isaac is voiced by Liam o Brian which is one of my favorite english voice actors ever.

i think that’s what the separate the 2 PS2 3D games. one’s a more RPG and the other is a action adventure game.

btw did you enjoy the fight with Trevor or Isaac? the music is just plain godly O_O

never played the N64 games. i heard it was soo bad that everyone though Castlevania would never transcend to 3D.

    • I absolutely hated Lament of Innocence. Curse of Darkness BECAME fun, but I didn’t like it at first. Although the implied relationship between Hector and Isaac has become a source of humor between me and my friends.

  • PrinceHeir

i would rather have lament of innocence and curse of darkness artstyle with DMC or Demon Souls gameplay.

oh well will be trying this for sure :)
