The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Limited Edition Lands In March

By Spencer . February 1, 2011 . 10:33am

Just like the Ys games, Xseed put together a premium version of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. This package includes a soundtrack CD, 13 x 19.5 inch poster, and a replica Bracer Guild badge for $39.99.

Xseed will also release a vanilla game for $29.99. Both versions are slated for release in March.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky takes place in Rolent, home of the Bracer Guild, a neutral organization that restored peace to the world ten years ago. Estelle and Joshua, the two lead characters in Trails in the Sky, are rookie candidates and the series follows the duo on their peacekeeping missions. Xseed took on a huge localization project when they picked up Trails in the Sky. On top of massive script, Falcom’s game has an in-game newspaper that covers current events in the game and an eleven part mystery novel.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is the first game in the series. Xseed has the rights to Trails in the Sky Second Chapter and Trails in the Sky The 3rd too, but have not set release timelines for either game.

  • Arcm

Nice, I’ll preorder right away. I hope the next game has an art book with art from all three games like they did with the Y’s Seven Limited edition.

  • So close yet so far away. The wait on this has been unbearable lol.

    • The wait has been unbearable? Wow, must be tough as Ive only just heard about the game recently, so I do not know what it is to feel this emotion.

      • Code

          • Zero_Destiny

Humans are beings who play Video Games, we’re here to play Video Games, and we feel emotions in order to enjoy Video Games, Why are you being so silly?

          • How could i ever be so naive, the answer was right in front of my eyes

      • Ladius

Some of us have been waiting for some kind of localization till the Pc release of the first Sora no Kiseki in 2004, others from the PSP version in 2006 :P The announcement of the six Ys-Trails games by XSeed last year was one of the biggest jrpg localization efforts ever, I am still hyped about it even if we got two of them already XD

        • I couldn’t have said it better myself. For some of us this wait has been long, and almost unbelievable it’s even coming over.

  • MrSirFeatherFang

One of the last great PSP games to see a western release. Also is SC and Final Fantasy Type-0 the only PSP games with 2 UMDs? I hope SE didn’t just put an over amount of CGI cutscenes lol

    • goes without saying – 90% cut-scenes, 10% gameplay

    • PurpleDoom

Yep, so far those are the only two 2 UMD gams. I’m realllly hoping that Type-0 is an enormous game rather than FFXIII portable.

    • Ladius

I think Tabata said that the two UMDs were due mainly to the high quantity of CG cutscenes. Still, the game seems to be really good, so I won’t mind.

  • Guest

Finally. Now bring over the fighting game and the Zero no Kiseki game

    • Ladius

Not so fast, they need to release the other two Trails titles before the crossover and Zero no Kiseki can be localized (the plot won’t make much sense since ZnK is chronologically after Sora no Kiseki 3RD and Ys vs SnK picks up references from the whole trilogy).

      • kupomogli

They’re already bringing the other two so obviously he’s saying that he want’s those as well. So do I.

        • I thought the other two are dependent on sales of this title.

          • They announced bringing the whole trilogy over inititally. I’m pretty sure work has started on SC already.

        • Ladius

Yeah, but since the other two games will require a great deal of time to localize (especially SC) it could take quite a while before ZnK or Ys vs Snk’s announcements (provided the Trails games are successful, of course).

  • SolidusSnake

Nice, time to change my pre-order.

  • Dude, Im quite excited for this game, lol. I hope it is as powerful and as amazing as Legend of Heroes A Tear of Vermilion, one of the first games to ever make me cry during the story…Mile…but anyway I will have to secure my preorder this will be the first limited edition I ever get from Xseed, hope its worth its weight in gold!!!

  • PurpleDoom

Awesome, I’ve been looking forward to this and it’s nice to see that it’s getting a cool limited edition like the Ys games did.

  • the most awesome game.. like ever!! gona replay in english version.. lol..

  • sdragon21

To those who have played the japanese version, is the game any good??
    And is it worth pre-ordering??

    • Justinzero

I have them all on PC. They’re all pretty good.

    • falcomgamefan

The Trails in the Sky series are horrible. Here’s 13 good reasons not to buy them:

      1. Conversations drag on forever

      2. Extremely linear and you are locked into an area of the Liberl Kingdom with no way to backtrack in the first game and most of the second

      3. Battle system is slow and clunky

      4. Bosses are cheap and keep reviving their buddies just to be annoying instead of provide a real challenge

      3. Incest-like relationship between the main characters…

      4. 90% of the main characters are boring and unconvincing

      5. NPC conversations are even more boring

      6. Very little creativity or variation in quests (mostly fetch an item, kill a monster, help someone, or deliver something quests)

      7. Back story leaves something to be desired

      8. Very obvious stealing of ideas and names from Chinese, European, and Bible stories, places, and people.

      9. Music is a hit and miss especially for the first game.

      10. Graphical assets over reused in all three games

      11. Pixelated textures slapped onto poorly rendered 3D models

      12. Very easy to miss unimportant items or have quest time run out if you don’t know exactly what you’re doing (people who haven’t played these games before are going to find themselves getting screwed more than a few times with these)

      13. If you didn’t like The Legend of Heroes: Gagharv Trilogy (A Tear of Vermillion, Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch, or Song of the Ocean), there’s a very likely chance you won’t enjoy Trails in the Sky because the Gagharv Trilogy is much, much better

      • What’s the matter megalink? Got mad on Xseed and Falcom again? And no I’m not a fanboy of them SHUT UP I AM!!

        • falcomgamefan

Um, you mind telling me why you and your posse keep calling me megalink? I’ve been called that name quite a few times now by I’m guessing all dudes from your group. Some kind of insider secret with the boyz in your hood, G? Care to share with the rest of everyone? And revenge for what, man? Take a chill pill. I’m free to express my ideas and if you don’t agree, OK. Out of curiosity, I googled your Ancient Land of Ys website just to see who you guys are and found your junky message board. Huh, so that’s where all the haters hang out, is it? I see… Well, haters will hate, but it doesn’t make Trails in the Sky a better series because it’s not and that’s just the way it is. I played all three games more than once to give them a fair chance and suffice it to say, they suck. Plain and simple. It’s fair game to tell people ahead of time what their buying into so they don’t get suckered.

    • yes they are, I have all the 3 games in japanese. And the 3 stories are all connected and the characters you have will be carried over on the next chapter. the FC was good, but the second chapter is WAY TOO BETTER. I guarantee it.

  • Ereek

Time to cancel my normal edition and get this.

  • Draparde

hurray! im so gonna preorder that limited edition as soon as possible….though ill probably procrastinate and get it abit later. :<

  • Ladius

Two copies preordered. Thanks XSeed, I really hope the trilogy can be completed before PSP2’s arrival.

  • Hraesvelgr

Another for March, huh? Dammit XSeed, why do you want me to be broke.

    • A few more days to wait. Too bad I have my board examinations on the release date of the game. Will still find some time to play though. I’ve waited for the translation for quite some time already. D:

  • kupomogli

Premium edition, not limited. Either way I’m getting the premium edition.

  • Omg i need this!

Hope the falcomlover that acutally hates falcom doesnt come to troll here

  • Hours

I’m so hyped for this game, it’s not even funny. I’ll be getting the Premium Edition for sure.

I hope XSEED has a tight timeline for the Second & Third Chapter games. We’ve got three more games to get through to be caught up to Japan with this series and I want them all! :)

  • Phoenix_Apollo

…XSeed had a lot of work cut out for them! I’m really impressed by all they’ve done so far, but this series just seems absolutely enormous. I really appreciate all they’ve done for the fans and am seriously considering getting a PSP over a 3DS just to get the awesome stuff they’ve put out.

    • Word!

    • Ladius

If you like jrpgs PSP is no-brainer: Ys 7, Ys OiF, Ys 1-2 Chronicles, Trails in the Sky 1-2-3, Tactics Ogre, Valkyria Chronicles 2 (and hopefully 3), ZHP, Cladun, Disgaea 1-2, Jeanne D’Arc, Popolocrois, Generation of Chaos 4-5, Final Fantasy Tactics, Hexyz Force, Persona 1-3 (and hopefully 2 IS), Final Fantasy 4 CC, Parasite Eve 3 TB, Jikandia, Half Minute Heroes, Final Fantasy Type 0, Knights in the Nightmare, Gods Eater Burst and many others- it’s an astonishing lineup.

      • steaminferno

Whoa. I didn’t know it had so many jrpgs. That settles it. I’m gonna get a PSP when my exams finish in June.

    • puchinri

I’ve really wanted both for a little while now, but the PSP does seem the better option at the time. It has quite a few good looking RPGs for it. (And Lunar SSS, which I never got to play.)

      • Joanna

Yeah, I also decided to get myself a PSP. My friend kept telling to get one and I’ve finally caved in. I’d say get PSP now and you can always pick up 3 DS later since it’s a brand new system. At least that’s what I am planning on doing. :3

  • Caligula

From what I can gather from the comments, seems like people are pretty enthused about the series. I’ve only played the Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch, though. Is PoMW representative of the series? This particular game sounds interesting, but I thought PoMW was really mediocre.

    • Ladius

Don’t worry, it isn’t representative in any way. Psp PotMW was a bad porting (not done by Falcom) of a fairly old game, with a downgraded battle system. Don’t think of the Gagharv trilogy games when you consider buying the Trails in the Sky ones :)

      • Tatsuya1221

It’s really too bad namco got the right to port them to the psp, the pc versions of the games were very good from what i’ve heard.

At least the gagharv trilogy’s story was still good, too bad the battle system namco gave the ports made dragon quest 7’s battle system look revolutionary.

  • Fonic

Once again, thank you XSeed. Greatly looking forward to this.

  • Zero_Destiny

Oh man a poster and a little badge-thing, reminds me of the good days with Working Designs. XSEED you spoil me. It’s settled I’m gonna so get the LE and put the poster up right next to my YS 7 cloth map. Unlike the poster I got for Sakura Wars (lol I felt too embarrassed to hang that up, plus I didn’t really care for Gemini).

    • Embarrassed, hang that baby up dude!!! The only poster Ive ever wanted was the one that came with Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 in places and with deals. I would deck my room out in Naruto, oh and Ichigo from Bleach too, the most epic characters ever imagined for animes (oh and Otonashi, Naoi, and Hinata, from Angel Beats, oh and maybe Vongola Decimo in Hyper Mode, lol).

They should really do posters more often. I have the Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days one.

      • Zero_Destiny

I love posters and I love anime/manga and all that stuff and I even got me some Gunpla and Action Figures out on display but I never really felt right about slapping up a poster of hot anime babes on my wall. Just feels weird. Plus I wasn’t really a Gemini fan. I found her to be annoying so why would I want her on my wall. lol But yeah more posters are great. I was able to get a deal with a guy from the mall and bought up like four or five Dragon Quest IX posters they actually had hanging up in the store *screams* Oh man I even went out and had it framed and now it hangs up over my bed. Companies really should give out more posters there awesome!!!

    • Tatsuya1221

Heh i know what you mean, i still have my boxed copy of lunar 2 eternal blue complete with it’s gold plated lucia’s pendant, good times, good times.

      • falcomgamefan

Yeah, Lunar’s boxed sets were awesome. I miss the good old Working Designs days… Lunar, Elemental Gearbolt, Arc the Lad Collection, etc.

That sucks Trails in the Sky’s poster is going to be folded so you’ll have big giant creases all over the dang thing. Quit being cheap bastards Xseed!

Working Designs would have NEVER done that. They sent you a poster on super high quality laminated paper with the signatures of all the developers in a cardboard tube FOR FREE if you bought the game. FOR FREE!

Xseed’s stupid little Bracer badge hardly compares to the quality of Lucia’s pendant, either.

I want to say this new Xseed boxed set is alright, but it’s still just crap compared to anything we got from Working Designs. Xseed needs to quit with the cheap gimmicks and give us something that will have long lasting value. These won’t.

        • Zero_Destiny

lol While I’m glad we share love for Working Designs I’m confused at your post. XSEED is going out of their way to bring us a pretty nice LE, and really in this day and age most companies would probably just give you DLC. It’s nice to get a physical bonus. Besides I LOVE Working Designs. I’ve made my mission to track down as many of their games as I can but maybe the reason why the company went bankrupt was because of how much they went out of their way to give their fans cool stuff. Not always a safe business strategy in the long run. I think XSEED is a fine company and has been doing a fine job with all their releases and all their LE’s.

  • Any news if the second game will be available digitally? I can’t double dip right now and I’m making all of my future purchases digitally….unless Sony comes with a magical solution for converting UMDs.

  • Darkrise

  • PrinceHeir

tons of 2D games getting release on the PSP this year :)

    awesome :D

  • Feynman

Wait, this is coming out in MARCH!? I had no idea the release was so close! Gotta preorder this ASAP, dood.

  • Gah… I guess Yakuza 4 will have to wait. I wonder if I have any games to sell….

  • Another day one right here!!!

  • Is this related to the game “Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch”? I have been thinking of getting the first and third just to complete the series available in NA, but don’t have money to spare while new games come out.

    • Ladius

It isn’t related in any way, while both the Gagharv and Trails trilogies are part of the Legend of Heroes series they are completely independent story-wise, and considering the Gagharv PSP titles are bad ports done by Namco, with a gimped battle system and sub-par localization while the Trails ports are done directly by Falcom, with the original battle system and a XSeed-quality localizaiton I would advise you to save your money to support Trails in the Sky the 29th of March, it will be well worth it :)

  • kurosan9712

The guys really did it. I played it in japanese, though, so I won’t be buying the english version(already bought japanese for PC, all three actually)

  • M’iau M’iaut

That battle grid looks like a soccer pitch or pokemon battle arena.

And I’m guessing Estelle has a bit of the tsundere in her, eh?

  • The battle looks a little off-putting but the the platnium package is real good. It’s just missing a mini-art book but oh well, still worth £30.

    • Tatsuya1221

There’s a demo of the japanese version out on the internet somewhere (though you actually have to download it and put it on your psp, wasn’t on psn for some reason), the battle system does look off putting, but it’s an entirely different experience when actually played.

  • puchinri

That’s not a bad price for either. Maybe I’ll just preorder it and jack my sister’s PSP (until I get my own).
