If Viewtiful Joe Had A Huge Lance You May Have A Game Like Invincible Knight

inv18 The Tapei Game Show was in full swing last weekend and Sony Computer Entertainment Taiwan brought a never before seen game to the show. Keystone Game Studio is working on Invincible Knight (temporary name), a PlayStation 3 title developed with Sony’s PhyreEngine.

Invincible Knight puts you in control of a knight with a huge lance who races through levels at breakneck speed. The heavily armored knight crashes through walls of soldiers and fights boss monsters. Illustrations of boss characters show the knight standing toe to toe with a humongous black dragon and a wooden tank. Jeffrey Chiao, CEO of Keystone Game Studio, tells Impress Watch there are three main actions: accelerate, attack, and avoid.

Chaio says Viewtiful Joe was one of the games that influenced Invincible Knight. Like Clover Studio’s title, Invincible Knight uses 3D graphics, but it is essentially a side-scroller. Since the game is still in development many details are not final. However, Keystone plans to create eleven stages with branching paths. Players will be able to obtain several kinds of weapons and armor. Sony plans on selling additional costumes and stages as downloadable content.

Keystone hopes to be able to release Invincible Knight this summer, but if they miss that deadline the game will be ready by this winter. Invincible Knight has not been announced for North America or Japan. It will be sold in Asia, but the game will be available in Chinese as well as English.

“Give Viewtiful Joe Had A Huge Lance You May Have Something Like Invincible Knight”

    what you say?

There’s an SCE Taiwan?! Since when? Either way I’m curious for a preview and hope they make more games (if this one is good).

EDIT: Still waiting for that Wild Pomeranian Sweater Simulator that is Tokyo Jungle.

This is like me finding out there was an SCE Korea when KUFII was announced for PS3. I’m tempted to go see just how many divisions there are for SCE aside from SCEA, SCEI, and SCEE.

I guess we’ll find out when the rest of them make a game…

Well the Phyre engine sounds hot! Is it for NGP too?

A PSP version of the PhyreEngine was announced so there must be a NGP version too.

      • SlashZaku

I imagine the PS3 version would work better seeing how easy it is for studios to get their PS3 engines running on the NGP.

I wanted to see a larger version of the thumbnail you used for this article, art looks cool. You seem to have a habbit of posting an interesting image for the thumbnail but exclude it from the article!

Game seems interesting but i’ll be waiting on a gameplay video to see how it looks.

Those are photos from Impress Watch so we didn’t want to repost all of them. You can see the illustration on their site, which we also linked to in the article.

So this is basically Viewtiful Joe mixed with Bangai-O and Gunstar Heroes? That’s just way too epic if that’s the case.
