More On Viz’s Upcoming Pokémon Black & White Manga

By Ishaan . March 12, 2011 . 12:00pm

When we reported that Viz were publishing a Pokémon Black/White manga in the U.S. last week, some people asked if it was what goes by the name Pokémon Special in Japan. To answer that question, yes, Pokémon Black/White is the same thing as the ongoing Japanese Pokémon Special series.

Manga blog, Kuriousity, also got in touch with Viz to ask some questions their readers wanted to have answered, which yielded some interesting additional information that you can read an excerpt from below:

“Viz Media’s editions of Pokémon B/W will be a new format from their usual Pokémon releases with each volume being approximately 80-96 pages each to accommodate the content available. Because of this they are being sold at a lower price point of only $4.99/US. They’ll be releasing two volumes at a time — the first two in July, and then volumes 3 and 4 in November.”

In case you missed it, you can check out the full list of Viz licenses for the latter half of this year in last week’s report.

Super excited!!! I kinda wonder why they don’t just make it an omnibus with two volumes in it instead of just two small volumes but I’m happy either way. Can’t beat the price either!!! :D

The price IS super awesome! I wonder how Rightstuff will price it? Perhaps $3-4.99^^

I guess this isn’t the more “mature” series that’s appearing in Shonen Jump as I thought it was, now that I see that the Viz license is still part of the Pokemon Special series.

Anyone know what the new SJ series is called?

    • Zero_Destiny

It’s called Pokémon RéBURST and that series JUST had it’s first chapter come out March 9 so it’s been out all of three days now. lol It’ll probably take some time to come to the US Also the new series will be in Shonen Sunday not Jump (You meant Shonen Jump with SJ right?)

Ohhh Shonen Sunday…. For some reason I thought it was in Jump. I sure hope Viz picks up this one too!

        • Zero_Destiny

I think they should. Pokémon manga does pretty good in America and Viz already has deals with Shonen Sunday in fact they have their own Sunday label. :) I’m sure it’ll just be a matter of time.

I still think the Pokemon manga series is better than the anime. The story is a lot more deeper, too! It doesn’t even have inconsistent aging!

Who else thinks that Ash should have been at least 15-17 years old during the Hoenn Arc (May too)?

    • http://ggftw.com/forum/ Monkey_T

Who else thinks Bart Simpson should be around 20 years old now?

      • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Crossed_Swords_Inn/index/ konpon568

Exactly. For 34+ years, The Simpson’s had, like, almost two Halloween specials per year and they kids are still in the 5th grade. I don’t care much for it, but they should at least make them go a grade higher, maybe Middle School! Maggie should keep the show’s gag about her not talking on-camera during her later years!

But, Pokemon is a different story. In one Arc (the Orange Islands filler) he is 11 years old. In Johto, he is 10 years old, In Hoenn, He is 13 years old. In Sinnoh, he is 14 years old.

But now, In the Ishuu/Unova region, he is 10 years old. Think about it for a moment.

        • http://ggftw.com/forum/ Monkey_T

Did the anime ever state Ash as being older than 10 years?
          Just asking.

          • http://s1.zetaboards.com/Crossed_Swords_Inn/index/ konpon568

A lot of times the Anime has stated passages of time. In some episodes, they would mention weeks that passed during an event (the Indigo Plateau’s two months later episode, for example). Then, there’s the animated short “Pikachu and Pichu” from the 3rd movie about the Unown. In which Ash, Misty and Brock celebrate Ash & Pikachu’s 1st Anniversary. Now, try to counter this fact!

They messed up the continuity with Ash (Satoshi)’s age big time with Best Wishes! I hope they fix it soon…
