For some reason, I’m heavily reminded of RPGMaker from these screen shots.

Ah well, good to hear that they chose to use the GBA version. Being able to get back the five STILL FULLY FUNCTIONAL characters to use in your team is a welcome addition to the original game.

Interlude is only three hours though? That’s rather disappointing. And I HATE Trapdoors.

I was about to post the same thing about the RPG Maker vibe.

Oh so I wasn’t the only one! Thank god I thought I was going crazy. It so looks like RPG Maker XP and beyond. It’s not bad looking mind you but man do they look the same. Ah the memories though. So much of time went to RPGM 2k3. Good times ^_^ Never made a complete game though. lol

Glad to notice that I wasn’t the only one who was reminded of RPGMaker when looking at these screenshots.

Infact, I am starting to wonder if they actually USED RPGMaker to create this remake. Now that would be hilarious.

When I started playing I pretty much immediately thought of RPG Maker :p I didn’t know so many others would do that as well.

I think the graphics look pretty good though.

I could have told you the interlude wasn’t going to be 15 hours. How many game companies have stated their RPGs to be such and such hours, usually 80 plus, only for the game itself to take maybe 20 hours without sidequests and more than likely, the sidequests take less than half the time it takes the game to be played to completion?

Though the same companies are careful not to put these statements on the back of the boxes. Could be grounds for a lawsuit they may actually lose then(knowing all the greedy people in this world who would do such a thing.) Atlus put over 100 hours on the back of Tactics Ogre box, but that’s the truth.

I’ve already had it preordered so should receive it soon. I’m glad that the GBA content is left intact.

@Spencer. There’s one question I have though. On the GBA version there’s a major flaw where if you’re in the back row with Edge, boomerangs and stuff will take off half damage like if they were short range weapons rather than long range. This made purchasing two boomerangs at the secret shop on FF4 Advance which I think brought Edge’s attack up to 236 were practically useless and you may as well have just equipped him with the two swords that brought him to 255 and keep him in the front row. The SNES and PSX versions didn’t have these flaws but also didn’t have the extra ultimate weapons.

Bows and arrows weren’t flawed like the boomerangs were in the GBA version. Other than that the GBA versions had so many bugs. I’m assuming the PSP version won’t have the other game breaking bugs that the GBA version had and hopefully the long range weapons that Edge uses doesn’t have these bugs either.

I’m impressed with the updated graphics as well but I don’t know if I want to play the whole FFIV again considering I’ve played the DS remake.

Since I never got After Years I’m looking forward to this. I’m trying to figure out if I’d like them to do an After Years with VI or not; I lean towards yes but I figure I’ll know for certain once I play this.

    • RupanIII

Same here. I finally beat IV (PSX) not too long ago, but never got The After Years, so I’ll be nabbing this sooner or later.

I’m just pissed they’re using the GBA version’s translation instead of the vastly-improved DS version’s translation, especially considering The After Years referenced the latter.

    • DanteJones

Didn’t the DS version use 3D models or something? I was thinking of which one to get, but to be honest I’m not sure which is better. :x

      • Ereek

I’d say this version. I also prefer the GBA version to the DS version, for that matter. This (and the GBA version) has better extras and more flexibility in character use end-game.

OMG RYDIA’s WINDOW I love you rydiaaaaa. Man I better watch out for Edge he’s been trying to get at her for years

I really wish they went with some other typeface for the dialogue and stats. It doesn’t match the fantasy vibe of the game. Why didn’t they go with something that more akin to the fonts in the DS and GBA FFs is a fact I will never understand.
