Sonic Generations In Motion Is Lightning Fast

Sonic Generations updates select stages — both 2D and 3D — from the past two decades of Sonic games in high-definition. Today, Sega released the first in-game footage of the game.

 

Generations be a retail game on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. No date has been announced yet, other than that the game is coming sometime this year.

    rar, I like seeing the speed, that’s what I felt I so sorely missed in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 omo; It “looks” like old-school Sonic might just have nailed that right feel again, but it’s a hard call opo;

      I’m with you, after how unplayably slow Sonic 4 felt with messing up the momentum physics of the early games I’m hesitant. I really really want to like this though. I will wait for impressions, but if the 3d parts are more Sonic Colors and less Sonic 2006, and the 2d parts are more Sonic 1-3 and less Sonic 4, I will be very happy.

        Agreed, Sonic 4 was just such a huge miss on such a fundamental level for me xpx; I gave Sonic Colors a shot on a whim (it’d skipped a few games just because of money and generally mixed reviews) and for the most part enjoyed it (although I might have enjoyed more speed/running less alien-puzzle obstacles) but I felt it was a step towards the right direction. Although hard to say the experience may have been improved by that spectacular hat owo;

  • Today, thats odd, I saw this one yesterday, lol. Essentially looks like a fantastic amalgamation of Unleashed and Colors. Modern Sonic is nice, day 1 purchase, PS3. Hopefully there is no framerate hitching, clipping, and slowdown, and DLC support.

  • Why choose one Sonic when you play both? :)

    What does sadden me a little is that I know that so far, Sonic games will always be about Sonic. I just want Knuckles or even Shadow playable again. :(

      One of the bullet points mentioned about Sonic Generations was that you would be able to unlock other characters as you progressed.

      Presumably, this includes at least Tails and Knuckles.

      • I dont think any interview nor the PR stated that there are other playable characters, just that Sonic would have to save his friends.

  • Looks great, all i hope is not as short and crappy like black knight’s sonic game, the idea itself wasnt bad, but the game was poorly made, not many maps and so short…

  • Just adding old Sonic is not going to make this a better game. Maybe if they take the good parts of past games, and try to blend it. I still have nightmares of Sonic The Hedgehong on the PS3.

      Yet everyone states that Sonic Adventure is the good 3d Sonic. I think Sonic Adventure is just as bad as Sonic the Hedgehog on the PS360.

      • Sonic the hedgehogh for ps3 that made me lose hope for the sonic games, it was so bad, i mean, sonic couldnt even run well, i remember i was running and he suddenly stops -_-.

        Sonic adventure, that is the one for gamecube? where shadow appears? So far that has been the best 3D sonic out there, the story is good, great characters, and it’s so cool how you play with them all. Also, the chaos breeding thing was simply addicting, i remember i had the GBA sonic game and i moved the chaos from the gamecube game to there, so i could make them stronger on the gba :D

        • That was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle I think, though it is my favorite 3D Sonic as well. I found the gameplay very addicting, Shadow was an awesome dude and I liked the difference in play with the characters. And like you said the Chaos breeding was super funny, I always tried to make mine a super bad one with an evil grin and all. xD

          Sonic Adventure 1 was the one on Dreamcast, but I think 2 was on the dreamcast as well..?

            Yeah, it was one of the last games on the console. I think the GC version sold a lot more though.

            If the 3D stages in this game are like the ones in SA2, I have no qualms with that.

          • Even if the GC version sold more, we all know the Dreamcast edition was still king. Not that I’m biased, of course.

          Sonic Adventure was for Dreamcast but it is also available for PS3 on PSN so TRY IT. Then wait for Battlefield 3

      The 3D stages seem to be more like Colors/Unleashed Daytime, which were very good.

      Sonic ’06 was a nightmare.

    Finally a Sonic game I MIGHT be able to get back into. As long as they don’t put in that lock-on crap, and if they give us good bonuses like the one in Sonic 3/S&K, I would be so game.

    nice a combo of sonic 1-3 and unleashes day/colors gameplay. this might be worth a buy instead of a rent…i hope its not miserably short

    • Wow what was that at the end, sounded like the music altered for using Modern Sonic on Green Hill Zone…interesting.

  • Here’s hoping for Radical Highway, if only for the kickass Theme. Was my favorite level in SA2 just because of that.

  • Come on Sega…you know you want to put some story in either Classic Sonic being Modern Sonic’s son (or grandad* due to exisiting before Modern Sonic) or how Classic Sonic has time travelled…cause of some half-baked plot.

    *Sonic’s dad died along with Sally Acorn during the resistance.

    WOW. I know the Sonic haters out there are groaning but I am the neutral party and that looked awesome! The last one I played was Adventure 2 and I loved that as well!

    To be honest, I’d be more inclined to purchase this if I were to see some sprites…
    I get this odd feeling that the true sign of the breaking of the Sonic Cycle will be actually seeing some nice HD sprites, although the return of the old Sonic is definitely a welcome improvement…

  • Modern Sonic: Xbox 360 controls
    A:Jump
    A then X: Homing attack
    B: Crouch or roll if used while running
    A while holding B: Charging spin dash then release
    Y: Speed boost (they should reduce ring energy so you can’t abuse it)
    LB/RB: Quick Step left or right
