A Steamy Unused Scene From Final Fantasy VII?

By Spencer . May 6, 2011 . 8:11am

A video has been floating around with what appears to be an unused scene from the Japanese version of Final Fantasy VII. Using cheat codes on a first edition Japanese copy of Final Fantasy VII you can see this scene with Palmer strutting out of the Honey Bee Inn.

Did you notice anything strange going on? No, not the bee girl’s colorful text. The kanji characters are garbled up, but I think the gist is clear. Palmer was "enjoying" his time at the Honey Bee Inn. One of the girls knows Palmer pretty well… and the Shinra employee. He coyly says he was visiting for marketing purposes, but the girl rushes over to greet him. Furious that they are sharing the same bee-girl, Palmer chases the employee as he runs towards the screen. Cloud ends the scene by shrugging his shoulders.

A tip of the hat and "special course" to Prince Heir for the tip. Thanks!

Not even Palmer is able to resist the charms of the bee girls, it seems!

VII can be so funny and weird sometimes, and the Honey Bee Inn is a great example. Remember Mukki and his pals? xD The whole Don Corneo scenario was hilarious, I loved it.

    • godmars

Which is why you’ll never see a remake: Square’s gotten too serious to make funny scenes. Their art too realistic to be cartoony.

      • Barrylocke89

Which is a shame, I would have loved to see “Miss Cloud” in Advent Children style graphics. A lot of people seem to have forgotten (or maybe blocked out? XD ) that interesting scenario in the game.

        • @godmars:disqus dragon quest ix is pretty funny, and cartoony to be fair

          • godmars

@twitter-172788842:disqus But DQ isn’t a graphic showcase title. Its surrealistic and cartoony.

          • puchinri

It’s also a title that started with Enix (though deved by others) and not a Square title. (The parallels between the Enix and Square side even now is interesting.)

          • Well the DQ titles are done by Level 5 now anyway, so that’s not so much a factor.

          • puchinri

@twitter-15442314:disqus Well that’s why I mentioned they’re deved by others. They always have been. But DQ has always been a Enix title. I was just pointing out that Enix titles are still funny and pretty much the same at their core while Square stuff is… Er. Well, yeah.

        • lostinblue

^ Is that worth years of asset reworking and essentially redoing the game from scratch though, considering they’d be able to do a new game otherwise?

I mean the original conveyed everything nicely, even if the graphics haven’t aged all that well. I’d rather see a FF that could be called a worthy spiritual sucessor (and speaking of which, I’d rather have a FFVI or FFIX spiritual sucessor, but I digress)

          • puchinri

I would cry for days if we got a spiritual successor to IX.

          • Barrylocke89

@lostinblue. Yeah, that’s true. I do prefer new games to remakes. But the novelty value of the Wall Market scenario alone does appeal to me.

      • that is true in a way. like when cloud has to dress up as a girl. if they do a remake how will they pull that off lol

      • [The Hunter] Doomrider

I don’t see Square not remaking the game (after all, there are a billion versions of lots of FFs). I don’t know what they’re waiting for, but it’s money waiting to be made.

If it will be good or bad, I don’t know. But I will agree that
it almost certainly won’t be as funny. But hey, that’s what the original is for =)

        • gatotsu911

The various FF7 spinoffs had me laughing plenty… just, y’know, not for the reasons they intended.

      • lucy1986

Yeah, I remember when Final Fantasy used to be funny. When you’re playing a game for that many hours you need something to tickle you as well as consume your life. I don’t think the franchise will ever get that sense of humour back.

        • Aoshi00

Lost Odyssey and Last Story had a lot of hilarious moments… I guess FF just lacks Sakaguchi :(…

          • [The Hunter] Doomrider

Sakaguchi and Uematsu will go back to Square, Square will return to its former glory (nostalgia goggles, I know…), Uematsu will drop the power-metal style and go back to his amazing music and FF remakes will be made for all platforms! (and new RPGs, of course)

            … It’s nice to dream, I suppose.

Lost Odyssey and Last Story… I hate you =(

            (Not really <3)

  • i think the argument that todays generation of consoles it would take 10 years to make a game the scale of ff7 is looking at it the wrong way. i would gladly play a game exactly like ff7 again, just with higher detail characters , battles etc. i dont even care if the backgrounds are pre-rendered. hopefully chaos rings will come out on something other than phones because that is exactly what im talking about.

    • doomspeller10

Agreed. Chaos rings looks too awesome to stay in just one platform. I don’t want to be an Apple slave just to be able to play it.

  • What kind of news is this?

    • [The Hunter] Doomrider

It’s not, it’s just an interesting tidbit about a pretty famous JRPG.

I mean, it’s not like everything on the site has to be news, right?=)

    • Interesting kind.

    • Looking at your profile, this is your fifth (probably more?) comment where you’re not adding anything to the discussion, just questioning why we posted something on the site.

If you’re apathetic, so be it, but there’s no reason to bog down the comments with one liners like “wut?” “I’m not caring…” or “Who cares?” Now, if that’s all you have to say… why say it at all?

      • But this is meant for commenting not really for having conversations. Besides I don’t usually question your articles just the ones which seem really weird/out of place, and this one just happened to catch my eye. And 5 “random one liner brain dead” comments out of 131 shouldn’t be that serious…

        • First, this video was just discovered this week. It’s “new” so I’d classify it as news.

While this may not pertain to other sites, on Siliconera we like to keep the comments open for conversations not one-liners… and that’s most of what your 131 comments are.

I loathe having to review accounts, so consider this a warning.

          • Wow geez, then please add “No one-liners” “Only conversation” to your ToU.

Sure saying one-liners like “Brilliant!”, “I’ve been waiting for this!” etc. are allowed but when I post something like “Wow, talk about lame.” it’s time to dig up your banhammer.

But yeah you’re the boss. I shut up.

          • To be fair you derailed discussion with your unnecessary one-liner into an entire thread *just* to moderate the original comment. That’s why I politely asked for you to think before saying something.

I don’t believe that’s too much to ask for, so thanks in advance for doing that in the future :)

    • Go back to Kotaku.

      • Sorry, I haven’t been there yet.

        • joesz

          War is bad.

      • gatotsu911

Where you’ll get RELEVANT NEWS and JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY all the time, amirite??

  • joesz

Man,such a good game it was.I really hope they consider remakeing this game on the PS3 or PSP or PSP2(I’m not calling it NGP,its ridiculous” .

And I still think that Cloud would win if all of the protagonists decided to do a cross dressing contest.

    • gatotsu911

Be careful what you wish for; the Squaresoft that made Final Fantasy VII and the Square Enix of today are two very different entities.

  • Palmer is more boncey than the bee girls!

I was trying to remember where exactly at the club this would have been at, but if it’s unused I guess it doesn’t matter.

It’s too bad the song was cut, too, though! FFVII probably has the largest catalog of tunes that I enjoy from any game till this day.

  • zweii

Im still waiting for someone to find the scene where Aeris is revived.

    • Agreed.

    • cmurph666

Still waiting for the PS3 remake with the hidden ending where the gang revives her

    • 128bitigor

Let the b*tch stay where she is…

      • puchinri

        Pretty much.

    • Balmung

      Phoenix down!!! lol

      • Ineffective. Plot Armor on.

  • Oni123

I would love to see FFVII remade with cel shaded graphics =) it worked for the original. stuff like Miss cloud just would look to messed up in mega HD ps3 graphics.

  • LastFootnote

Huh. The Honeybee Inn in general looks different than I remember. Was this whole room unavailable in the final version, or were a lot of the decorations taken out for the North American version?

    • theoriginaled

Im glad Im not the only person who noticed this. Someone care to explain why the entire room looks different? Until then Im calling fake.

  • Exand

It’s a “kyabakura” (root words from “cabaret” + “club”), although leaning more toward the side of club than cabaret. It’s where men (or women) go to sit and drink with hostesses while they chat. Businessmen and the like go to drink and complain after work and it’s pretty common in Japan. Not exactly seedy or scandalous being caught going to one. Unless your wife disproves of course lol.

There are seedy establishments that offer “other” services besides drinks and chatting often referred to as “pink” salons , but I don’t think that’s the implication here in the FFVII clip.

    • puchinri

Lol, pretty much. (Although I do think of pink salons or even fashion health places when I see that name.)

    • gatotsu911

I dunno about this specific scene, but looking at the dialogue, visuals, etc. of this area as a whole makes it pretty freaking obvious that it’s supposed to be a whorehouse.

  • karasuKumo

Brilliant! Although a little disturbing haha

  • godmars

Missing how the scene is “steamy” when it doesn’t even have steam in it, much less showing people kissing or even touching.

    • puchinri

Yeah, same. I was expecting something awkward or something.

    • You do realize the movie is implying a brothel, not a hostess club?

  • darkfox1

lmao I LOVED Final Fantasy VII man so much

  • Code

Honestly I’m surprised more unused scenes haven’t turned up over the years. FFVII was a thick game to begin with, but there’s always been the feeling of lots of extra things were probably cut from the game during development >w<'

  • Those graphics are still awesome!

  • i enjoy updates like this on hidden features in classic RPG’s like this.

  • Venus in Furs.

I like how we still find scenes and other easter eggs hidden in the programming of games 10 years after their release. It makes me wonder just how many there still are to find, and whether or not there are easter eggs that will never be discovered. It also reminds me that gamers are a dedicated bunch- kudos everyone.

  • I think and i also think a lot of you people think………
that ff7 is going to come out on the ps3! In HD eventually!
it has to think of the money !

but thats crazy a unused scene a bet there are so many in other square games i would love it if there was a scene like this in FFT

  • Aoshi00

The super deformed or 2D sprites were cute, but I think the cross dressing joke could work in HD too.. FF8 had many funny moments that made us chuckle and the chars were not chibi (Rajin, Fujin, Zell, Laguna, etc).. also Lost Odyssey being in HD had a lot of lol moments too.. That’s why I thought of it being more of a FF in spirit.. it just depends on how “dark” they want to make it.. I still want to see FF7-9 remakes if they’re doing it like Lost Odyssey.. of course big headed chars like FF-7 or 9 do make everything look cuter.

Well, at least people are not blaming the 360 for this being cut :P…

  • PrinceHeir

A tip of the hat and “special course” to Prince Heir for the tip. Thanks!”

yay, wonder what the special course is? :P

  • Wiccan1109

Nothing does nostalgia for me like this particular era of gaming, very ammusing scene. And on the wall….Tifa?

  • gatotsu911

Well, the subtext of this area in the game wasn’t exactly subtle in the final version, either. I doubt this scene would have made much of a difference.

  • Pichi

Wish they would have left it in, pretty funny.
