Sonic Generations Will Likely Have These Stages

By Ishaan . June 25, 2011 . 3:00pm

A few diligent Sonic fans have been digging through the Sonic Generations demo this past week, and have uncovered what is at least a partial list of the stages present in the game, along with a list of bosses and at least one piece of DLC.

TSSZ News reported the news after catching wind of it. The post has now been taken down, but you can still access it via Google’s cache. Here’s what was found in the demo, pertaining to the full version of Sonic Generations:

  • Green Hill (Sonic 1)
  • Chemical Plant (Sonic 2)
  • Sky Sanctuary (S3&K)
  • Speed Highway (SA1)
  • City Escape (SA2)
  • Seaside Hill (Heroes)
  • Crisis City (2006)
  • Rooftop Run (Unleashed)
  • Planet Wisp (Colors)

  • Casino Night Zone

  • Metal Sonic
  • Shadow the Hedgehog
  • Silver the Hedgehog
  • “Death Egg”
  • Perfect Chaos
  • Egg Dragoon
  • Final Boss: “Time Eater”

A big thanks to Fire_Couch for the heads up!

Sonic City Adventure… I’m sorry but I just had to do it…

  • Apache_Chief

Out of all the games I’ve played on that list, all of the stages they chose I like. This is shaping up to be really, really good. And that makes me happy.

  • I dunno out of all those memorable levels, more than one city level and having Seaside for the Heroes rep bugs me…
Though Sky Sanctuary is an interesting choice, I would of caved to the Ice Cap popularity but I can see this one becoming a favorite.

    • Ereek

I like Ice Cap’s music, but not the level itself.  I’m surprised they didn’t add one of the cave-y levels.

    • Seaside Hill is always SEGA’s go-to level for Sonic Heroes. Remember the Winter Olympics game? Personally, I wanted Frog Forest.

I was actually expecting Lava Reef Zone to be on here, but I’m about 99% pleased with the levels. And Silver (!!!).

  • Ereek

I think I would have liked something completely different for Sonic 2, like Oil Ocean or my personal favorite, Mystic Cave, but Chemical Plant is fun too.  I’m not really familiar enough with the latter ones to comment effectively.  I really do want to play Sonic Colors, though. Also, Marble Garden! Or Launch Base!

I played the demo and was pleased! The jumping seemed a bit weird, but I could get used to it.

  • Darn, I was really hoping for Radical Highway. Growing up, that was my favorite level to play on, racing down the bridge on Shadows Hover-sneaks with that awesome theme playing.

    • puchinri

I was hoping for Radical Highway too. Shame it’s not on there, but maybe in another five or ten years, we’ll get to see a newer version of it.

  • squeeeeeee~

sorry, im verry happy to have heard this info. i was hoping to see some interesting bosses come back. i wanted to see what chaos would look like in hd.

    •  didnt i see something for this game being on pc and psv?

      • AnimeRemix

Generations will most likely be on PC since there’s evidence of it being on Steam and a UK retailer has the PC version already listed for pre-order (in a physical copy).

        •  good news in deed! thanks for the confirmation!

    • puchinri

I forgot Chaos was up there and thought you mean the chaos, like a chao garden. And then I got excited, but I was really disappointed once I realized you meant Chaos. x’D / vuv

      •  i have been wanting a chao garden update for ages. they really need to bring it back!

it was fun going to the garden and feeding them.

        • puchinri

I know! I hope they do bring it back some time.

  • Well there’s not much level variety but i’m not gonna be too picky there could be stage DLC down the line (the casino night DLC is a pinball table not a stage).  It all depends on how they handle the stages and the bosses is what i’m worried about i’ve seen footage of big arm and they use doomsday zones theme instead of the sonic 3 final boss/death egg music and big arm doesn’t grab sonic once

for comparison watch big arm in the original at 2:35

    • I will admit it is odd they choose that music… but doomsday is one of my favorite stages and musics in the sonic games, so I’m more then happy about it.

  • Suicunesol

That stage looks an awful lot like it’s based off of San Francisco!

  • Shinji Kazuya

I really like the stage list, a lot. All great stages in my opinion! Looking forward to the full game!

  • OverlordFuka

Oh, Silver’s in the game? That’s awesome, I don’t know about everyone else but I really like Silver.

Seaside Hill for Heroes? It’s a nice level, but pity they didn’t pick something like Mystic Mansion or Hang Castle, those were my favorite levels in Heroes.

Regardless looks like a lot of fun! Nice to see SEGA getting back to their roots like Mario.

    • Hang Castle was the best I think. It is very odd they chose the first level.

Is it comfermed for 1 stage per game?

      • Lord Highawesomeparty

I don’t think so and I sure hope not because $50 – $60 for nine stages with 5 acts (3 being missions like find the chao) would definitely suck.

I actually think Izuka said the game could have multiple zones from different games. I’m not 100% positive though.

    • Lord Highawesomeparty

I am also a big fan of Silver.

I would’ve also loved to see the haunted castle levels in this game considering how we haven’t had one since Shadow (or Rush Adventure if you want to count the haunted ship stage)

I’d also have loved to see Egg Fleet or Final Fortress represent Heroes since we don’t really have any epic grand scale final levels on here.

    • i loved playing as silver! especially in multi player. i showed silver off and how he can leave u hanging in till u touch the ring. it was funny.

game-play with silver always brings a smile to my face.

  • sonic 1,2,3,Knuckles,Sonic CD

I would have liked more stages from these games but i guess i am happy with the retro 4 they have given

    What ???

No love for Flying battery zone ?

    • AnimeRemix

There’s no CD stage listed at all sadly…=(

    • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

It’s probably a lot easier to design a 2D stage based on the old 3D stages than vice-versa. But I would’ve liked to see more older stages, too. This list isn’t the final say so, though. There could be more.

  • Lord Highawesomeparty

I think I may as well post my minor gripe here about the 06 level choice. I don’t understand how Crisis City would work…

So if Solaris was destroyed then why would Crisis City still be around? The future turned peaceful after the end of the game…

The only logical explanation would be that time eater ended up going back in time and preventing the proper ending

    • Lord Highawesomeparty

      Sorry, stupid touch screen again…

But if he did that then wouldn’t it mean that Sonic never revived – and for that matter never got the chance to go through the adventures of Unleashed and Colors?

      Too… Many… Plot inconsistencies!!! YAAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!

      •  its going threw time in space, the final boss is supposedly called time eater. so what happens to realities when they blink out of existence? do they simply disappear? or maybe the time eater eats old junk from the past realities.

or not only time and space, but instances of thing that happened are also here.

        • Lord Highawesomeparty

Thank God I finally got someone who could give me a reasonable reply to my questioning!

I really don’t think it would work that way because they litterally destroyed that bad future. For lack of a better example let’s say you have a save file. When you erase that file it’s gone forever – no way to get it back (unless you have a backup file)

So unless there are ‘backup files’ I really don’t see how SEGA could explain this.

          • yes the file may be gone, and unusable, but the impression on that space is still there! in fact if u find the right program u could even recover that file.

so what i was saying is that maybe bits and peaces of that reality are still there.

maybe these time slips, or what ever they are calling them, are opening the remnants of other realities.

another theory i have is that alternate realities are being used as well, which is the reason why green-hill isn’t the exact same layout as classic sonic is use to.

all the stages are slightly different then they use to so who is to say what else is cannon sonic levels and what isn’t in this game.(if that makes since on paper, or erm text)

          • Lord Highawesomeparty

Sounds logical. I guess we’ll have to wait to see who is right then. It seems like you may be right.

          •  this was a fun discussion, thank you.

          • Lord Highawesomeparty

Your welcome. I’m glad this wasn’t like the discussion I had on TSSZ where I was called an idiot and told to reread the game’s story.

  • I thought the “DLC” was just a minigame pinball game? As I think SEGA/Gamestop said earlier this week:

Casino Night’ Pinball Stage: Play through this all-new mini-game inspired by Casino Night’ from Sonic The Hedgehog 2′, and relive some of your favorite gaming memories in stunning HD

  • NipponjiRurouniJSRF

I hope they add Metal Harbor from SA2. (imo SA2 was the best sonic game in the past two generations next to unleased day time stages). They better keep the original song for City Escape and any stage from games around that console generation

  • how will boss fights work? will it be classic sonic? modern sonic? or some odd combination of both?

    • RablaAndrews

Probably Classic if you’re playing as Classic Sonic, or Modern if you’re playing as Modern Sonic.

      Just a guess.

  • AnimeRemix

The stage list is pretty much… disappointing. I don’t see why there’s that many city based levels. For Heroes I think I would of prefer that we got the casino stage instead of Seaside Hill, and for Sonic Adventure, we could of got that ice level (or give us Ice Cap from Sonic 3). And if Generations is really covering 20 years of history, why no CD stage? It’s irritating when SEGA just leave out CD like that… Even if it was on the SEGA CD, the game still introduced 2 new characters to the franchise (Amy Rose & Metal Sonic). Having Planet Wisp represent Sonic Colors was the BEST choice! Planet Wisp was just the best stage in the whole game!

I really like how Metal Sonic will be a boss (Metal Sonic is my favorite villain character in the whole series). I don’t like seeing Silver in this though, he just rub me the wrong way (Time Traveling hedgehog just doesn’t seem right). And I’m curious how Sonic will fight the Death Egg… We’re talking about a giant floating base… I’m guessing Time Eater is basically eating history itself…? Maybe that’s the reason why places are starting to lose their colors.

Nonetheless, still pre-ordering this game next month! So can’t wait to play City Escape!

    • Lord Highawesomeparty

“I don’t like seeing Silver in this though, he just rub me the wrong way (Time Traveling hedgehog just doesn’t seem right).”

“And if Generations is really covering 20 years of history, why no CD stage?”

I get what you mean but I just couldn’t help myself! Sorry.

      • AnimeRemix

        Umm…? I really don’t understand what’s going on, but okay…? ^^

        • Lord Highawesomeparty

You said a time traveling hedgehog doesn’t seem right while Sonic CD is all about time travel.

          • AnimeRemix

OH! Now I get it, XD. >< (Sorry, kinda slow to notice things).

But it's not like Sonic literally can just Time Travel anytime he feels like it. Time Travel was needed only to save Little Planet (Got to destroy those robot generators and get those Time Stones! =D)

But then again, I could still just be written off as being bias. ._.

          • Lord Highawesomeparty

            Well everyone is biased!

You have to remember though that according to 06 chaos emeralds are not only the ultimate plot device they can also be used for time travel. Shadow, Silver, Sonic- screw it- nearly the entire cast time traveled in that game at one point or another.

          • AnimeRemix

Ah… Well, I never played 06 entirely(I played the demo and that was it… I didn’t own a ps3 at the time). ^^ But thanks for telling me! =) I thought the Time Stones were the only one’s that can be used to manipulate time and space…

          • Lord Highawesomeparty

Most people despise 06 but I actually loved it. I don’t let loading screen and glitches ruin my entire experience.
You should try the full game at some point since it’s really cheap now if you find it used.

    • This is only a partial list. Not all the stages.

    • Metal Sonic was introduced in Sonic 2, not Sonic CD.

      • AnimeRemix

I’m sure it’s Sonic CD… The one in Sonic 2 is not Metal Sonic, it’s Silver Sonic (Mecha Sonic in the Japanese manual). I don’t consider Metal Sonic being introduced in Sonic 2 first due to the sole reason that that isn’t the character concept used today for him.

        • Character re-designs happen all the time in gaming.  Lara Croft underwent at least one redesign in Tomb Raider: Legacy before two reboots.

So are you saying that a Sonic character can’t have a redesign due to the limits of the technology of the hardware used to produce him?  Sonic 2 was Genesis era, a.k.a. made in the 16 bit era of 256 colors.  Sonic CD was made during the early Playstation One era, a.k.a. 32 bit era with 32 bit colors.

  • MrDolomite

Man, I knew they were going to pick Sky Sanctuary but I was hoping against hope it’d be Flying Battery.

  • Covnam

It’s great to see the Chemical Plant zone, but the Casino Night zone was also a classic stage featured in many games at that time. Leaving it out will be a noticable loss in nostalgia.

  • Souji Tendou

Oh mai gawd, looking at the stages and the bosses, this could be the most epic Sonic games ever. O_O

Now I’m hyped, bring it on SEGA. :D

  • puchinri

    Yay Planet Wisp~.

  • My only Gripe with the list is why would they chose Speed Highway as the A1 rep especially when they already included city escape…why? Not that it was a bad stage but there are others that were way more iconic and memorable from that game.

  • anxiousheart

3 words: CHEMICAL PLANT ZONE!!! Woot! excited for the funk music and purple liquid that defines the stage

  • ForeverFidelis

    Modern Sky Sanctuary? Awesome

  • Code

Kind of an interesting picks, I find Speed Highway a weird one to pick from Sonic Adventure, I would have preferred Emerald Coast, or Windy Valley (although I suppose against other picks it wouldn’t offer as much variety). Also I’m surprised Sonic Colors has a pick, I wonder how they’ll handle the Wisp mechanic >o>’ Not keen on Heroes making the cut — really, really, didn’t like Heroes personally.

    • Exkaiser

Well, they do look like they’re taking one stage from every main Sonic game… Unleashed got one, too, and it should be pretty easy to translate a Colors stage into a Modern Sonic stage.

      • I was sure one or two of the Planet Wisps levels didnt even require the Wisps powers, hopefully it is the level where we are running on a path of light. That was a fun level.

        • Exkaiser

I’m pretty certain no stage absolutely requires wisps, since Super Sonic doesn’t have access to wisps.

      • Code

        True, I’m just being an unreasonable jerk, lol >w<' Admittedly never played '06 and Unleashed; did try a demo for Unleashed's speed stage and it felt okay to me; but truthfully I've never been that picky about 3D Sonic (minus Heroes owo;). You know if you ask me Rush should have gotten a stage owo;

  • Oni123

Chemical Plant! Would like to see Lava Reef make it in to

  • looking forward to the classic sonic music for Planet Wisp, that level has some of the best music ever in colors

  • Why oh why did they only give us one level from S&k3? They could have given us a separate stage for each game.  I know they were originally supposed to be released as one, but in reality they were released as TWO SEPARATE games!  I want my Sonic 3 level:(

  • ufoflash

wow it just get better and better (though i hope this isn’t it and their is more.)
these stages sound really nice and the boss list is incredible. really cant wait.

  • Guest

    Special DLC

    crazy Taxi zone
    shenmue zone
    jet Set Radio zone
    Phantasy Star Zone
    bayonetta zone
    Vanquish zone

    • puchinri

I wish. (And hope. A lot.)

  • What the??
How did they uncover all of that from a demo?!
