Capcom USA “Pushing Very Hard” For Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver.

By Ishaan . July 3, 2011 . 4:31pm

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd hasn’t been announced for an overseas release, but the PSP Remasters version, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver., has a better chance of making it over.

Capcom’s Christian Svensson commented on the game in the company’s “Ask Capcom” video Q&A this past week:

“We mentioned the Sony issue around the PSP-to-PS3 line [PSP Remasters] that Sony Japan is doing. I’m still pushing very hard on that…I’d like for that to happen. In the absence of that, at some point in time, we will have some additional news.”

Additionally, for anyone that’s wondering, there are no plans to bring Monster Hunter Frontier Online overseas at the moment. You can watch the full Q&A below:

Sony’s policies regarding PSP Remaster titles in America is pretty stupid. They apparently won’t let a publisher release a title by itself. It has to be part of a collection.

Sony’s policies regarding -Japanese titles- in America is pretty
stupid. They apparently won’t let a publisher release a title by itself.
It has to be part of a collection.

Fixed. It isn’t just PSP titles. It seems they are a bit too out there with everything these days. Not Nintendo bad, but still bad.

      • im confused with this, do you mean like other games beside psp games? cause i seen a couple release not part of a collection, unless you mean series by collection.

      • neocatzon

give us some examples, I’m pretty confused 0-0

        • Yukito

Well, they dropped White Knight Chronicles 2 in the US (D3 is bringing it to us), they have no news on Tokyo Jungle’s localization yet or even if we will get that, they have neglected LoD for quite some time, be it putting it on PSN or making a new one, their reason of not allowing Visual Novels over here, and I don’t really know the last time they really backed up a Japanese title.

          • Ravage27

SCEA might have dropped the ball with WKC2 but to be fair, they have allowed Disgaea Infinite (a visual novel) to come over and Monster Hunter 3 HD western release is largely down to Capcom’s willingness to localise it.

          • Yukito

I believe Disgaea Infinite solely ran on the wings of Disgaea being a cult hit in Japan, and NISA’s willingness to bring the game over. Sure, they okayed it, but outside of that, they had nothing at all really to do with it, and still seem pretty darn harsh on those games. I mean, I know Aksys and NISA have come to them with more visual novels to localize and they got turned down, so yeah…

But the announcement of Hakuouki for PSP is really interesting. I hope it paves way for something.

          • BK0000

Disgaea Infinite is a PSP game though. Sony’s approval process for the PSP has been pretty lax for the last few years. They’re at the point now where they’ll approve basically anything for the PSP. The bundle policy with PSP Remaster titles is going to be what stands in the way for Monster Hunter 3rd.

    • Ladius

That’s awful, it could have been a great way to showcase otherwise unmarketable PSP games to the PS3 American audience… I guess even a remastered FF Type 0 would have some problems, if they don’t change this policy.

Also, pissing off Capcom when Monster Hunter is the key to PSP (and PSVita)’s success is really a bad move on Sony’s part.

      • ManaKnight

I would think their issue more relies in lack of PS3 related stuff such as trophies and true online play.  Keep in mind DW Strikeforce was sort of this way and was allowed to come out.

    • xXDGFXx

well, it’s not like them wanting a collection is a bad thing… i really want both…

    • Where did you read this? Do you have a source?

    • Do you have a source for this? Always include a source when you make claims like that please, or it confuses people. :)

  • I really hope the remasted ps3 ver has online option like monster hunter tri… Then i would gladly get it and wouldnt mind that much not getting psp ver…

    • Exkaiser

I would mind, myself- Can’t say I could ever sit down at a console to play Monhun.

But, well, if the worst happens, I suppose there’ll always be more to do in Freedom Unite. Always.

      • Oh yeah, having it portable is cooler, but i dont know too many people to play MH with, so having it online makes it sometimes better to enjoy what MH is more aimed for, multiplayer :D.

And yeah, you will never finish that game… Never~ Mwahahahah! xD

  • epy

Great for Monster Hunter fans, hope you guys get it, but being an Ace Attorney fan and you not “pushing very hard” on that front, I still feel bitter about you Capcom USA.

EDIT: Bitterness levels… going down. Thanks Ishaan.

    • They talk about that during the Q&A. You should give it a listen before judging too harshly. :)

  • Nice, Capcom. Now push it much harder. Destination: All the way to the West.

    Heave~~ HO!

  • KotaroInugami

I heard the HD version didn’t have online play >.> and if it doesn’t… Monster Hunter loses 25% of its fun…

    • Don’t know where you heard that, but it’s absolutely not true. The HD version will support Adhoc Party, which is basically a lobby for online play.

      • kupomogli

Adhoc party rules!  Unless you’re too far away when playing certain games.  Then it sucks :(.  But it rules for the most part.

      • FireCouch

The thing about Adhoc Party is that you need a wired connection.  That’s not only a pain in the ass to set up at times, but also an improbable set up as well.

  • They also aren’t going to work with Cave for a Progear release on consoles! Got my question answered right at the end there, though I kinda wish I hadn’t now. :(

Good news for Monster Hunter fans though. :P This would be my first time with the series.

  • kroufonz

well then, don’t just try to push with hand capcom, use a drill to get trough!

  • Guest

    Do want….

  • NanaMiku

i was reading the article. i was happy until i read the last sentence…

  • Okay, all fair and good, but won’t the orignial portable version – you know, the one that’s been available for roughly half a year in Japan and sold five million copies – ever make its way overseas?

It’s not like people outside Japan don’t have PSPs.

    • SpiderCVIII

You gotta keep in mind that not everyone has a PSP and MH around these parts, unlike Japan, so releasing MHP3rd HD seems like a more sound option since you will always have people to hunt with online via Ad Hoc Party.

    • kupomogli

Except most people outside of Japan don’t buy games for the PSP.  No matter how good the games are.

      • The PSP is where all my FAVORITE games are! It’s like an RPG heaven.

        • KyoyaHibari

You said it, it is sad however that Nintendo is making more money off their DS with 90% of its games being crappy kid third party games just to milk the children’s money not knowing if the games are legitimately good or not. They probably don’t read reviews to see if the game is crappy or not and might not be able to tell if it’s crappy from a glance or title like we can. (i.g “Fishdom”, “junior mystery quest” etc)

  • I’m eagerly awaiting a Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. I am, however, fully prepared to import the game should Capcom USA, once again, choose to leave a game I desire in Japan.

As for Ace Attorney Investigations 2, I’ll wait for as long as it takes. Just bring it over. I’ve purchased every game in the series, and I’ll continue to do so until I’m blinded by a crazy ex via acid in the face.

  • kactaplb

I’m lucky enough to have many friends who play mh. Nothing will ever beat everyone playing in the same room with our psps. I’ll pass on this one, sadly.

  • Man, if it does happen, I might get a PS3 soon. I’m not even a big console gamer. I prefer the handhelds. I just can’t pass up on this one.

  • I loved Monster hunter tri on the Wii, and I will buy the PS3 version of 3rd in a heartbeat!

    • MrRobbyM

I’m still playing MH Tri to this day. It’s so much more fun than Unite on the PSP. I’d love to see the PS3 version localized too.

  • HarryHodd

Dying to play a Monster Hunter on PS3. Psn support would be nice too.

  • Code

rar, would approve so much; it’s a especially since Portable 3rd on PSP never arrived here omo’ Really figure it would have too considering Monster Hunter’s nice little PSP fanbase >w<

  • Dang, and here I though that they would go for both versions. For this one I would need to have around 2 or 3 more PS3s at home to play it with my brothers and friends.
Hopefully the portable one will be announced soon.

  • Exand

So what IS the issue with Sony with regards to PSP remasters outside Japan? Is it the fixation on trophy support, or the lack there of, that’s causing Sony to drag it’s heals for US releases?

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

I don’t imagine it’d be that hard to add trophy support in order to localize it. It’s been done for quite a few other PS3 games. Cross Edge is the first one that pops into my mind.

  • If Capcom won’t release anything for psp overseas… then square will practically be a monopoly on the system.

I thought it was okay to stay hopeful for monster hunter, Tri did decent in states side so 3rd and/or HD needs to come here. not to mention that tri was coming out on a system which is lacking the support, not every mh fan has a wii.

I think the best Idea would be to release it as a bundle here in america and really push the franchise. honestly it’s got great potential to do well.

  • Xeahnort

It’s hard to believe that Mr. Svensson want to publish an PS3-exclusive title in western shores.

    • Huh? Portable 3rd is a PSP-only game. The PSP Remaster is an upgraded version with cross-play functionality. What else would they do?

  • BelmontHeir

Please keep up the good fight. I would buy cold hard cash to be able to play this game in the West!

  • karasuKumo

It is the most successful PSP game to date so I can’t see how they are having problems.

  • KyoyaHibari

This will be awesome if they bring it over, hopefully they give the second analog stick camera functionality…

  • puchinri

I would be so happy if they could bring it over. If they could get Tatsunoko vs Capcom over, I feel like they could bring just about anything.

  • hmmmm….then if 3rd is a flop or underwhelming a release of the HD version might delay or hurt chance of 3rd G coming west side. I’d rather they wait and see what capcom japan is gonna do with the G version that might also be on ps3 release. I guess due to the larger amount of content, upgrades to the game and less confusion for new potential fans. This confusion might be caused by more than one releases floating about in stores.

  • Sandywolf

    If they don’t bring MHP3 over here, I’ll go over there and get it myself! ;^;
