The Valkyria Chronicles 3 original video animation is now on the PlayStation Store and Sega has a promotion for fans that rent a digital copy between July 6 and 19. That’s the way to get access to the “Destined Showdown” mission.

This extra mission is a what if scenario where the Nameless (that’s the squad in Valkyria Chronicles 3) and Squad 7 from the original Valkyria Chronicles work together to infiltrate Citadel Ghirlandaio.

A second Valkyria Chronicles 3 OVA will be released on August 31. Here’s a sneak preview of it.

    I got Valkyria Chronicles for PS3 a month ago and was about to get Valkyria Chronicles 2 for the PSP just to learn a day later that Valkyria Chronicles 3 may not come to North America / Europe. ;_;

The PS3 one is really great plus epic Hitoshi Sakimoto music. Can’t comment about the PSP one ’cause I’ll only get it if 3 makes it’s way over here.

I’d like to think that a fan translation would eventually start up in the event Sega or someone else fails to localize the game.

It would be a shame to miss out on it though. Valkyria Chronicles is hands-down my favorite new IP introduced this generation. Such an amazing series.

Don’t let that stop you from getting VC2! I liked it more than the original, to be honest. Avan > Welkin, even if nobody else agrees with me.

I hope you’re enjoying the original Valkyria Chronicles on PS3, though. FYI, there’s a free theme for VC on PSN too. Just in case you’re interested.

      • SlashZaku

Avan annoyed me to no end, making me wonder why he was the main character.  His happy go lucky attitude and that laugh of his made me want to put him under the tank and roll it back & forth over him till he JUST STOPPED.

I think it’s that character ‘attitude’ that annoys me though.  I’m playing God Eater Burst and Kota is just as annoying to me.

    • Ladius

Buy VC2, it’s an amazing game and since VC3 is a prequel it isn’t like you are missing out on a sequel (some VC2 characters are in 3 as cameos, though).

    • badmoogle

The original Valkyria Chronicles was one of the best RPGs of this generation IMO.Innovating, beautiful with a good solid story and likeable characters.Unfortunately Sega didn’t pushed it at all in the west and kinda left it to die. Most of its cult-like success came by word of mouth.I bought it full price at day 1 and never regreted it.
Congrats for getting it and playing it.

    • badmoogle

Btw don’t forget to get the DLC too!The one you play as Selvaria was especially good.

  • http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/members/55321.html FinalArcadia

Putting this article on here is such a tease :)

I thought maybe we were finally getting VC3 in Western territories. Oh well, I can dream. That game looks incredible though. The DLC is a good incentive to rent the OVA, that’s for sure.

  • AxeL

WHATTT you serious….this small clip looks epic! Have to say I’m loving part 3 the most out of all them because lets face it; when you play as members that are more secretive and dark  it’s gunna be sweet. Don’t get me wrong though, VC 1 and 2 are great in their own respective manners and will love them nonetheless.

Pleaseeee localize, haven’t heard anything news about releasing it to North America or Europe!

    • http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/members/55321.html FinalArcadia

AHHH! You’ve played part 3!?!? Or are you just loving it already despite not playing it? Either way, you officially rock in my book.

If only my Japanese skills weren’t nonexistent, I would be all over importing it.

      • AxeL

Lol sorry if I mislead you haven’t played myself. Have a buddy in California that imported it and he just briefed me on how the story is in comparison to the first two. I told him straight out not to tell me anything about the story or what’s added in the game since it will spoil everything when I actually get the game!

Just asked him how the story was in a overall sense compared to the first two. Here is a question I actually asked him.

Q.How is the story, it looks much more dark than the first two games because the members seem more like the assassin squad of the whole army branch?

        A. Yea it is much more darker game not just because of the direction of the story, but also because the members have pasts that seem like they fit in this type of squad. Some of their personalities you will see match with the squad while others don’t. Overall, just like the previous two games where each person had their reasons for joining and fighting in the war, this one does the best job of implementing that!

He barely got the game a week ago and he has other games in his backlog so hes only played a good 30 hrs or so into it.

I understand that the question I asked my friend seems kinda straightforward and anyone could’ve realized how this game was gunna be… It’s just the fact that I realllllyyyyy didn’t want to ask him anything too specific because it justs kills me when I find out about a game and especially a series I love!

        • http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/members/55321.html FinalArcadia

Don’t worry about misleading me! I’m just glad to see all the excitement and support for the series! BTW, your Q&A up there is making me want the game more…:)

  • http://twitter.com/seph_luis_br Luis Camargo

We need this game localized ASAP.
I don’t care if it’s only on Europe or America. Hving the game in english is enough for the fans.

  • Ladius

It’s really sad to see Sega abandoning the Valkyria Chronicles franchise in the west, especially since 3 is an outstanding game :(

Maybe some Sega fan will organize an “Operation Valkyrur”, but at this point the best bet for those who want to play it in English is a fantranslation in the next ten years or an unlikely PSP remaster (and it would still need to be bundled with another game to be released in the USA, if the rumors are correct).

    • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

I don’t think they are abandoning it, rather “PSP is making us retreat”.  If VC3 was a PS3 game I’m sure we would of seen the game localized by now.  One more reason why I hate this regional gap for the PSP.

Probably wouldn’t be too unreasonable for a VC2 and 3 remaster or if VC3 gets a PSN exclusive for Vita. The series is popular enough.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aaron-Cameron/100001055122940 Aaron Cameron

well alot of company are abandoning the psp in the US cause they just dont sell enough and it cost alot to bring the title over so thy just not breaking even thanks to pirates

        • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

Yeah it sucks.  When a company like NISA, who released Sakura Wars on the PS2 in 2010, is backing out that is a huge problem.

What I’m saying is I doubt they are giving up on the series itself.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aaron-Cameron/100001055122940 Aaron Cameron

what funny is NISA wanted to bring the other Sakura wars games over but SONY USA laugh and said it not a game but we leave tht for another day

        • KotaroInugami

I really don’t like this statement. I haven’t seen a publisher actually complain about pirating before as a reason for not bringing over a game. Yes pirates are out there, but I don’t think they impact the gaming world to this extent. Look at Final Fantasy, it’s obvious that pirates are all over it, yet SE still makes thier money.

        • mirumu

I think the real reason the PSP is losing steam in the west is simply because it’s old and clunky. Keep in mind the PSP is 6 to 7 years old now. The screen is horrible even compared with mid-range phones, UMD is extremely slow and horrible, and the dpad and stick are horrible. Even if the game itself is good, and there’s plenty of those, playing it on a PSP is a chore.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but despite still owning a 1000 and a 3000 myself, I’ve no intention of buying any more PSP games no matter what they are. Bring on more games for the 3DS. Bring on the Vita.

The only people I’ve heard of actually spending lots of time on a PSP these days are kids who’ve been given an old PSP as a hand-me-down. They’re probably the only ones pirating these days too.

    Valkyria Chronicles 2 & 3 HD Remaster series for PS3 JPN/US/EU

    DO IT

    • PrinceHeir

      hell yeah :P

  • BGMcDF

Maybe the next What If campaign would be What if it was localized. And then I’d cry myself to sleep.

  • KotaroInugami

I just got my nendoroid of Reila today. *Sigh* I’m afraid this is as close as I’ll get to the sequel. D:

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Oh Sega, you cruel, cruel mistress. What more do I have to do to get you to bring this to our shores? I have both games (day one buys), purchased all the DLC, preordered the official art book, and am considering importing some of the figures. I don’t think my back can bend any further…

    • http://myanimelist.net/profile/Kuronoa Kuronoa

PSP magically gets better in the west. :(
Supporting the series suddenly is half the job it seems.

      • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a cure for ‘deadness’. =( The PSP just needs Sony to lower the casket already. This just means the Vita has a lot of work cut out for it then, if the publishers are willing to bring unlocalized games to it, like VC3 and PSP:I. Or be bold and try for the PSP remasters like GOW (which will sell decently) and Monster Hunter (which, hopefully, will sell in the west).

If my last memory of Valkyria involves Avan and his horrible, horrible laugh…I will personally see to it that Sonic the Hedgie gets skinned alive. Dammit Sega, we want VC3!

    • Chow

       Aha, aHAhahaha!

      I’m sure we’ll get it.

Sega of America: NEVER!! HaHAH . . . haHAHAHAhah!!!

Just kidding. Seriously, Valkyria series got a respectable fan following so it’s kind of sad Sega of America weren’t willing to localize it especially that the 3rd game looked like the best of the series.

I just hope Sega give this game a chance. Great Japanese games like this should not just stay in Japan.

      • SlashZaku

I’m hoping they’re looking at the Vita for a release (physical and PS Store) for NA.  It’s probably a tall order for them but a PSP, Vita, and PSP Remaster (PS3) release would be nice.

I’m just kind of tired of seeing how the whole localization thing is going.  PSP is still getting some great/interesting games in Japan but we never get to see them or we know the chances are zilch.  I just bought God Eater Burst and found out the rest of the DLC wasn’t getting localized =  If it’s someone not willing to, it’s a licensing issue :(

        • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

That is another problem that’s kind of going on. I got God Eater Burst as well and hearing that the DLC won’t be localized is heartbreaking. There’s been like 4-5 new monsters that have been added since it came out in JPN. I want my godslaying fix!

Speaking of which, another situation that happened like that was with Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll. It doesn’t make me want to buy the game at all when I know that there is a wealth of content just sitting there, not being added for the overseas release.

          • SlashZaku

Yeah, and with the monsters comes new weapons too :(  I think I read that some NPCs also are playable in Japan?  Think that may have been a preorder bonus though.

  • Yamaneko22

Dear Sega, I need Valkyria Chronicles III and Shining Hearts in english. Arghhhh!!!@0@

  • http://twitter.com/RyougaZell RyougaZell

    I hate you SEGA.

  • Yu_TheKing

    At least very least bring it to the US for the Vita. So many fans here that want the game (in English) but probably wont get the chance to play it :{

  • http://www.falgram.com/ Falmung

Something must be done about localizing laws. This lack of localization is getting worst and worst as the years pass. Thank you sony for making the vita multi-region.

  • http://twitter.com/Cudgeon Raji

If they had released it for the PS3 it would sell in the west, but alas. They wanted to kill the series in the west, at least it seems like it to me…

  • Ravage27

Looks like Vita is our only shot of getting VC3 now, time to start campaigning i.e. facebook spamming

  • Learii
