Final Fantasy CG Studio Visual Works Talks About The Tomb Raider Trailer

Visual Works, the studio behind the Final Fantasy XIII cutscenes and many Square Enix videos, is also working on Tomb Raider. After seeing their Deus Ex: Human Revolution trailer, Crystal Dynamics decided to use Square Enix’s internal CG studio for the upcoming Tomb Raider game.

This video shows how the Turning Point trailer was made with staff from Visual Works explaining their vision and process for creating CG movies.

  • I have never been interested in a Tomb Raider game until now. Oh, and I can’t blame these guys for wanting Visual Works for CG. Seeing that Deus Ex trailer (…I’d never heard of that game before watching this “Making-Of” video…) would totally have convinced me too. That, and Final Fantasy XIII (what a beautiful game…).

  • It sounds like they were considering other studios…how is this even a hard choice?

Visual Works is one of the very few that can rival Blizzard in the CG department. I kinda wish they would make a full feature movie for any of SE’s franchises with their talents.

    • Well they made Advent Children, though that was quite a while ago now.  But I’d consider Visual Works to be better than Blizzard in most aspects.

StarCraft 2’s CG movies were amazing though..  Not sure about full feature movies, ACC was pretty nonsensical.. only works if you have a good director.. Pixar and Dreamwork CG movies are great if you count those, they tell good stories w/ the help of CG instead of just displaying pretty CG, and each new ones always set the bar higher.. Cars 2’s CG was amazing w/ Japan, France, and Italy as the backdrop..

Now it looks like Aya is cosplaying Lara here, since PE 3rd Birthday didn’t turn out too well.

always love Deus Ex CGI trailer :P

heck i wouldn’t be surprised if they used Visual Works for Hitman, and the new Legacy of Kain(hopefully ^^)

That was a really cool video.  I’m excited for this outing in the series and Visual Works’ work in the game is already wonderful.

  • I want to see the full demo that was showed to select members at E3 2011.

BUDDY? does that mean that the new TR is meant for kids and teens? is that how you  great a group of people with adults in it (wider group, wider profits. only for kids and teen less profits more silly content and censorship: me not buying)
