Nippon Ichi Looking Into PSP To PlayStation 3 Remastered Games

By Spencer . August 9, 2011 . 2:05pm

Later this month, the first PSP remaster series game will be available in Japan. Capcom will release Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver., a PlayStation 3 version with enhanced graphics and support for stereoscopic 3D TVs. Sony Computer Entertainment America have God of War Origins Collection, a compilation of Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta, slated for release in September.

Since Nippon Ichi has a number of PSP games I asked Souhei Niikawa, president of Nippon Ichi Software, what he thinks about the PSP to PlayStation 3 remaster program.

"We’re looking into it right now," said Niikawa in a Siliconera interview. "We’re investigating how the feature works and learning about the system. We’re happy about it too because we have a strong lineup on the PSP and we would like to change that to PS3, so we can have a wider audience."

In an earlier interview Haru Akenaga, president of NIS America, revealed to Siliconera they were trying to release Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman as a PlayStation 3 title in North America. Nippon Ichi also has a handful of Japan-only PSP games like Blue Roses: The Fairy and the Blue Eyed Warriors and La Pucelle Ragnarok which could be remaster series candidates. Is there any particular Nippon Ichi title you would like to see on PlayStation 3?

I would like both Claduns to be remastered.  Let me give you my money!

  • I wouldn’t mind if it was on the PS3. But I prefer La Pucelle Ragnarok on the PSP for NA/EU Release…. please?

    • puchinri

      This. ;u;
Also, I like your Marisa icon.

  • Not a bad idea, but they should keep this title on the PSN only and not full priced either, and I’m all for it.

  • I would rather seeing 2 games on one disc, such as makai kingdoms + phantom brave or Soul nomad + makai (i like makai). I don’t want to rebuy games that i already have on the go. But some ps2 games we never played portable is a different story! i would buy multiple copies if they were on vita!

  • OΔO

Is… Is that… angelic choirs I hear? And I’m not even a Christian!

    • GinSilver

I don’t know, I’m hearing the serene humming of a dozen Buddhist monks in meditation. And I’m not even Buddhist

  • Disgaea for the “enhanced port of a enhanced port” hilarity.

Though really prefer companies to prioritize Japan only games.  They don’t want to localize PSP games only fair they make it up somehow.
Other than that I wouldn’t mind them tackling Prinny, I felt that is a platformer more people need to play.

  • SetzerGabbiani

First they need to up the resolution of their sprites.  If they give me Disgaea 4 sprites in Disgaea, I’ll double dip for sure.

  • Zeik56

Makai Kingdom! Makai Kingdom! Makai Kingdom!

…Did I happen to mention Makai Kingdom?

  • Sal

ZHP, Makai Kingdom and Blue roses would be great :3

EDIT: Also, Prinny. How could I forget that?!

  • Lord Highawesomeparty

I’m hoping NIS doesn’t end up putting Makai Kingdom portable on the PS3 remaster list cause that would pretty much kill any chance we’d have of getting it on the PSP over here.

The thing that interests me is that NISA said they probably wouldn’t bring any of Imageepoch’s games over here because of the poor PSP sales… could this mean NISA may bring games like Criminal Girls and Black Rock Shooter over here as PS3 games?

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

I do. I never got a chance to play it on the PS2, so I’d welcome it on the PS3. I’d also love to see the Imageepoch stuff on PS3.

  • Lexaus_the_Alchemist

Wait when did Blue Roses come out? I was looking forward to that one. Sucks it was JPN only. Anyway, that’s one game I would like to see Remastered.

  • MrRobbyM

    Z.H.P. and Cladun.

  • Blue Roses is the one I want.  I remember following the news so closely when I found out about it.

  • I don’t think there is one specific game I would like. I would want as many of the good ones as possible. Both Disgaea ports, Prinny games.
Yeah, just about anything. I’m a greedy bastard. =)

  • doubletaco

Just what I want from Nippon Ichi, more ports.

Maybe now I can play the remake of a PSP port of a PS2 game on my PS3!

  • Andrew Austin

If they localized La Pucelle Ragnarok I’d be p. happy

  • Kitsune Miku

  • dragoon_slayer12

Why doesn’t sony just put a psp emulator on the ps3???. I’ll pay $50 for that.

    • Darkrise

The closest thing they might have to that is a plug that connects your psp to ps3 and play games on it. It’s about $50. =P

      • entrydenied

You can connect a PSP2000 and above to a TV anyway so a plug would be pointless.

    • HistorysGreatestMonster

Because remasters have HD resolution, updated control, and, in North America, at least, trophy support.

    • Lord Highawesomeparty

It would take away from the PSP’s already poor sales and it could possibly affect Vita sales with it’s PSP emulation.

      • dragoon_slayer12

Could actually heighten sales it makes more sense than the remastered games. I’m not paying double for one game to then play it through the ps3, for that, ill use my component cables and save more money. But with psp emulation, those that find a game worth ALWAYS PLAYING (def jam, disgaea, dissidia, etc), that entices them to buy a psp, even better, reserve the vita or save for it, all without being tied to a 6 foot cable

  • Obviously it has to be La Pucelle for me :D

  • Natat

I certainly hope they do La Pucelle Ragnarok and then bring it here (just hopeful here, bear with me ;_;), I need me some more Prier.

  • Darkrise

La Pucelle would be nice, oh and Criminal Girls. That one was by far one of the most interesting psp titles I’ve seen last year.

    • Kibbitz

I find Criminal Girls enjoyable, but well, I’m not sure it’ll have much of a positive audience. I’d love to be proven wrong though. Also, content is limited, so there’s the feeling that most people might feel ripped off depending on how they take to it.

  • I definitely want La Pucelle. But if there’s another game I’d want completely redone for the PS3 (and I mean completely), I think it would be a tie between Disgaea 1, Makai Kingdom, or Soul Nomad.

And yes, I said Disgaea 1. Have you ever tried to play Disgaea 1 after playing 2? Or even 3? It’s definitely not aged well, graphics and mechanics-wise.

    • Soul Nomad isnt a psp game, you stupid cow ;D but yeah i agree with ur other choices though not so much Disgaea 1, i mean its been released alot but meh

        I CAN DREEAAAAM ;;

And I mostly go with Disgaea 1 since, regardless of it being on the PSP and the DS along with the PS2, it’s in definite need of a serious upgrade in terms of graphics and gameplay. I love Disgaea but playing the PSP port was actually kinda painful once I had gotten my hands on Disgaea 2 Dark Hero Days. There’s just such a ridiculously obvious jump between them.

    • dragoon_slayer12

Makai kingdom, hell yeah. Way funnier than disgaea 1, and the interesting tweak to the Gameplay made it a bit more enjoyable (for my ocd side of everything must be 100%)

  • HistorysGreatestMonster

Anything NISA want to put out for PS3, I will buy. Even bought Bleach, despite not liking the anime.

  • sandra10

I would love to see them on the Vita, honestly. I haven’t played any of NIS’s games (which is going to change soon), but I have a solid history with SRPGs and JRPGs – they just work better for me on handhelds.

  • Blue Roses please. Thank you. :D

  • Setsu Oh

more fugly games on ps3 , yay! the originaly made for ps3 discaea didnt suck enough! yay!(how can they call that hd?… i wonder). i got so bored of la pucelle even the puns were not funny enough to make me keep playing. long matches, dissapointing story? yep sign them up! not me.

  • HarryHodd

Will take any RPG they bring. Wondering why it’s taking so long for Japanese devs to jump on board.

  • Kibbitz

Blue Roses would be interesting to see. My brief exposure to it was pretty unmemorable, but maybe I’ll be able to breeze to somewhere more interesting if it was in English. At the very least, it’d be nice to have a somewhat different IP available over the other things that are already out in English anyway.

  • Methylene

    La Pucelle, definitively La Pucelle.

Though, even as a remastered, I have this feeling NISA wouldn’t look at it. Just a feeling I get from some topics on the official boards.

  • kroufonz

yes yes please bring remaster those unlocalized psp game nis!

  • SeventhEvening

A disgaea collection including infinite, one and two would be interesting. That is a LOOOOT of gameplay in a bundle there.

  • DarkWaterClone

I would like to see La Pucelle: Ragnarok, Blue Roses, Princess Antiphona’s Hymn & Hayarigami. I think these all would make great PSP to PS3 games. Plus I hope NIS will also do remasters of PSP games for the Vita too.

I also hope NISA will bring the remasters out of Japan. If NIS makes remastered games.

  • Schwer_Muta

Ragnarok. There’s a lot of things I’d like an excuse to play again, but we never got to play Ragnarok. So it’s gotta be that.

  • Xerain

Other than the Obvious choice of wanting an unadulterated version of la pucelle, I woudl like to play Criminal Girls in English. Go ahead and give it an M rating if you have to.

  • elsalvadorps

Oh its JP branch my original post was meant for the USA one
but what games of their can compete with those of the likes of MH

  • cmurph666

    Criminal Girls~!

  • Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? and Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood! on PS3, make it happen!

  • Mister_Nep

I’m so happy to hear them looking into it. Hopefully they find it feasible, and actually pump out some games.

  • both the prinny games remastered for PS3 hell yeah.

I’m actually kinda sick of Japanese devs shying away from current gen hardware. Particularly in the downloadable space. They HAVE to realize by now that handheld games are generally treated as “secondhand citizens” here in the west, and that’s for the successful DS. For the dead PSP, no one cares. Yet they keep putting great, amazing games out there exclusively for the handhelds. Titles like Radiant Historia need to be made available to more gamers – port them up to PSN or XBLA or something. Sh**.

Publishers like Atlus, Xseed, Sega (Valkyria Chronicles 2) and NIS America should be FLOODING the PSN with PSP Remastered titles now that Sony’s opened the floodgates. I cannot wait to get some of these games!

  • Seeing as NIS has wanted to avoid localizing PSP games as of late, I think they should bring over BRS: The Game, localized, as their first remaster. That way, they can avoid the “is tough to sell PSP titles in the U.S. market.” problem that they can be quoted saying.

Either way, first thing I want them to do right now is bring BRS: The Game over to the states, doesn’t matter how.
