Namco Bandai and Nitroplus are working on a Puella Magi Madoka Magica Portable game and they turned the series into a 3D dungeon crawler.
In the dungeon part, you pick one of the girls or set up a party before entering. Each girl has their own characteristics and spells sourced from the anime. The game uses a turn based system where you have to pay attention to the distance between your character and the enemies. The adventure part has players pick events from a map. These can either lead to conversations or new dungeons.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica Portable is based on the anime, but has alternate routes to see depending how you play the game. Namco Bandai hired animation studio Shaft (the same company that handles the anime) to create an original opening for the game.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica Portable is slated for release on March 15, 2012. Famitsu has a handful of screenshots and a look at the limited edition. That package includes a Madoka in a uniform set, special video on a Blu-ray disc, a handkerchief, soft pouch, clear card case, and PSP game packed in a box designed by Shaft. The limited edition costs 11,990 yen ($157) while a stand alone game is 6,480 yen ($85).
