Is Lord Of Apocalypse An Unlikely Sequel To Lord Of Arcana?

Lord of Arcana, Square Enix’s take on the growing hunting genre, didn’t light up any sales charts, but it may be getting a sequel. Square Enix filed a trademark for Lord of Apocalypse in Japan, which could be a follow up to Access Game’s PSP title.

Another possibility for Lord of Apocalypse is it’s another sequel to Lord of Vermilion, the card collecting arcade game that Lord of Arcana got its monster art from. Square Enix released Lord of Vermilion 2 in 2009 and a revised version came out earlier this year with King of Fighters and BlazBlue cameos.

  • A Lord of Arcana sequel?
    GOD NO!!

  • Vyrhn

i heard LoA is just a terrible MH ripoff, never even tried the demo myself though

    • It doesnt have much in common with Monster Hunter, in LoA you have magic,  EXP and Levels, and create new equipment and armor by harvesting monsters souls.

      • Vyrhn

oh so LoA is like MH and PSU mashed together, well i didn’t try the game just because negative review from many ppl though

Unless it’s going to be vastly different than the first one, should they even bother? MH pretty much has that type of game covered, not to mention MH 3rd HD is coming out too.

  • I really wish MH fans wouldn’t call everything a ripoff, they call all Monster Hunting games an MH ripoff. They called God Eater that, and LoA, and lots of other games. They fail to realise MH isnt the first Monster Hunting game either(coughDinoCrisiscough). (Not all MH fans, just the hardcore ones). LoA is nothing like MH, most of the monsters arent very big, barely any are Dinosaurs, and its an RPG, not an Action Adventure game. Plus there’s skills, magic, and other stuff.
I enjoyed LoA, but I agree that there’s A LOT of room for improvement. They really need to fix a few things.

    • How is Dino Crisis a monster hunting game? Just because you kill dinossaurs in it? If you want to mention a game with similar design structure to MonHun but that came before it, try Phantasy Star Online.

It would be easier to escape being accused of opportunism if they weren’t so similar to each other at first glance and didn’t come out AFTER MH became such a hit in Japan.

Sounds more likely for it to be a sequel for Lord of Vermillion. I mean nowadays when does a big company like Square-Enix make a sequel to a game that didn’t light up any sales chart? Unless Lord of Arcana was some sort of experiment or a budget title, then that makes sense.

  • If this is a solid sequel to Lord of Arcana, I hope they don’t rush it for sales but actually take the time to make an authentic experience to the Monster Hunter genre experience.

Like God Eater Burst was fantastic, sure it maybe a clone, but you damn sure enjoyed the story, the aspects and you saw such originality that you didn’t feel like you just brought a clone, but a new aspect.

I hope this is a sequel to LoA and it’s no bullshit, because…

  • RablaAndrews

Why is ‘Monster Hunter Clone #17’ getting a sequel and not The World Ends With You

    • Learii

because square-enix want to be better then Capcom

      • ShinNoKami

And we all know what brilliant decisions Capcom’s been making recently, right?

  • PrinceHeir

could be a arcade game hmm

  • Its funny how in the last years Square Enix is just making sequels to games no one wants, like Final Fantasy XIII and now Lord of Arcana.
