One Piece: Pirate Musou May Come Overseas As One Piece: Pirate Warriors

By Spencer . December 30, 2011 . 2:35am

One Piece: Pirate Musou May Come Overseas As One Piece: Pirate WarriorsNamco Bandai and Tecmo Koei are teaming up again for another anime Warriors game. Instead of Gundam, the two companies are working with the Straw Hat pirates to create One Piece: Pirate Musou. The game is slated for release on March 1 in Japan.

And it seems like Namco Bandai has plans to bring the PlayStation 3 title overseas after that. Siliconera found a trademark for Pirate Warriors in Europe filed by Namco Bandai, which fits nicely with the upcoming One Piece game. As Dynasty Warriors fans know, Musou games are renamed Warriors titles in the West. I guess we’ll start calling the game One Piece: Pirate Warriors… just in case.

Well at least they got a decent name.
    unlike Dynasty Warrior: Gundam

    • Brandonmkii

I don’t know how they could have done it better. Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam Warriors? No thanks. They could have gone the Hokuto Musou route and just dropped warriors from the title, but DWG is way more like DW then Ken’s Rage was.

  • Draparde

Ooooo. sounds like a game i’ll be buying if it makes it to the US.

Good, can’t wait to start thrashing Marines left and right from Enies Lobby to Marineford ^_^

  • elroid

Namco and bandai can be quick sometimes…

    • Gatchaman1

You mean when Koei is involved…

  • Aara_Malik_Davoodi

Yes, please! Take my money now if it helps get the game localized faster. Day 1, baby, Day freakin’ 1!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Farid-Belkacemi/1073052585 Farid Belkacemi

It seems like u caught the “tsunayoshi” disease… lol

      • Testsubject909

Is it still a disease when it’s enjoyable and causes no physical or mental harm?

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

      Dude, I agree!!!

  • http://www.ukanime.com abigsmurf

Kind of a shame the timeskip has spoilt the massive scale of some of the One Piece battles now

    *10,000 marines appear*
    *Luffy uses his Haki*
    *all marines are knocked out*

There’s a good chance this will be an EU exclusive like OP:UC SP. That’s of my most eagerly awaited games of the next few months. Just hoping the delays were used to boost the frame rate a bit.

    • Göran Isacson

Yeah, I gotta admit that I agree- it used to be the case that the group took turns managing the small fry inbetween all the big epic one-on-one battles. Now since we all know Luffy is aiming at the top and we have seen that the top pirates ARE insanely strong I always knew that Luffy would one day reach that level… I just wish it had taken more time.

  • http://twitter.com/atmey Atmey

So, should I cancel my Japanese preorder?

  • Gatchaman1

Lol I’ve been calling it One Piece Pirate Warriors for months now

  • OverlordZetta

Well, actually, none of the franchise-based spinoffs are called “Warriors” in English even if they have the typical Musou treatment in Japanese, which might lead to some confusion.

Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage -> The game is, sadly, not entirely about Ken being very angry.

Dynasty Warriors Gundam -> Not only is this NOT about the characters of Dynasty Warriors piloting their own Gundams, but they aren’t even in it! You could have named it Samurai Warriors Gundam and it wouldn’t have changed anything.

    So there you go.

  • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Come to US baby, come to me Zoro, Sanji, and our cool Fire Fist Ace!

    • Herok

this game takes place post time skip so Ace probably wont be in it sadly.

      • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

What do you mean? The newest videos and trailer showed it goes way back to the beginning of One Piece.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S2UKKIGGOA4V5EIFXAD7BQQOV4 Heehee

I just hope that it comes out for the Xbox360 too since I don’t have a PS3 and not planning to get one soon.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

doubt it, wouldnt jpn have announced it by now, its already been playable at events and etc.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S2UKKIGGOA4V5EIFXAD7BQQOV4 Heehee

True, but remember Dark Souls? For Japan, it’s only on PS3, but for the West, it’s for both consoles. Since Dark Souls is published by Namco Bandai, there might be a chance that this game might as well go multi-platform for the West too.

        • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

The newest Dynasty Warriors was PS3 only in all territories though.

          • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/DrakosAmatras DrakosAmatras

If you’re talking about Dynasty Warriors 7 and its Xtreme Legends expansion, they’re on both PS3 and 360. Personally, I have a feeling that this is how they’re gonna go from now on.

          • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

DW7: Xtreme Legends is only on PS3.

          • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/DrakosAmatras DrakosAmatras

Wow, it is? That’s odd, considering it’s an expansion pack. Maybe Koei don’t want to expand the series on 360 market anymore?

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Aunna-Terrell/100001267508146 Aunna Terrell

Yea, DW7XL is only on the PS3. Recently, Koei’s been making some bad marketing decisions. It’s somewhat annoying the fanbase. I know people wanted WOZ (US/EU’s WO1+2 on the PS3), SW3XL (Wii expansion) & SW3Z (SW3+XL on the PS3) for English releases, but we’re not getting them.

          • OverlordZetta

Who even knows with Koei these days? Look at the mess that is Samurai Warriors 3 and its related games.

        • SlashZaku

I always imagined Dark Souls was more of a courtesy to SCEJ for Demon’s Souls from From.  SCEA/SCEE passed on localizing the game in their regions which kind of led to Dark Souls in the first place (Namco was the EU publisher).  I think had SCEA/SCEE published Demon’s Souls in their regions, Dark Souls wouldn’t have happened (or had been Demon’s Souls 2).

        • Solomon_Kano

I believe they stated Dark Souls would be multiplatform outside of Japan from its announcement though, so this is different.

Also, even if that version wasn’t published in Japan, the 360 version was still developed by From Software so Namdai being publisher on this doesn’t mean this could have that happen. Ultimately, that rests on Omega Force (the developer).

  • Boo

    I have a feeling that the U.S. won’t get this game ><.

    • ThunderGod_Cid

      Knowing Bamco-US I wouldn’t doubt it.
Good thing the PS3 is region-free.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Eugene-Ward/1044262336 Eugene Ward

Can we get the gold ps3 too? Man, if I were still in Japan I’d snatch that up in a heartbeat!

    • Testsubject909

      If only…

We’ve missed out on so many limited edition console versions throughout the many years of gaming.

Something tells me we have a very VERY low chance of ever seeing any for the home consoles…

  • kupomogli

What series won’t Koei ruin with its Dynasty Warriors style gameplay.  Regardless of who develops it, it seems like no series is safe anymore.  Even Tales has a Dynasty Warriors style game coming out.

I don’t care about One Piece though, so carry on Koei, carry on.

Just wish we’d see a next gen version of Romance of the Three Kingdoms instead of all this Dynasty Warriors garbage.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-de-Groodt/100000446926616 Mike de Groodt

Then Why don’t YOU not buy them?
It’s not like Namco Bandai & Koei are forcing you!

Sheesh, some people DO enjoy these games.
I for one like their “if it’s not broken don’t fix it strategy”

but tastes differ and i can’t change your mind (certainly do not like meddling)
But stop these posts you’re kinda attracting attention and You KNOW Warriors fans will take offense

      • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/DrakosAmatras DrakosAmatras

It’s not just slandering Musou games; he’s been flaming really often these days. He said something to the same effect a couple of days ago, I told him these games are not as he thinks, and he doesn’t give a damn: http://www.siliconera.com/2011/12/28/tales-of-destiny-rebirth-legendia-and-dawn-of-the-new-world-in-one-psp-game/#comment-395738542

Reasons don’t get through to him anymore. At this rate, either he stop himself or a moderator will stop him sooner or later.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-de-Groodt/100000446926616 Mike de Groodt

i guess he lacks attention and common knowledge, but i’m just gonna reply like this whenever i see a post made by him:

          (¬_¬;) sigh……

          • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/DrakosAmatras DrakosAmatras

There was one guy a while back who harps on about how the PSP sucks every opportunity he gets; like, on virtually any PSP game’s post. …I want that guy back instead.

No, seriously. At least that guy Vince was a whiner at most, and not really inflammatory – apart from sounding really silly. This guy, on the other hand…

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-de-Groodt/100000446926616 Mike de Groodt

Rather not have whiners, i tend to rage when i see someone smack talking something like.

thank goodness none of them went on a freedom of speech bend,

      copulate?

Actually this is turning into an interesting little game.

  • PK212

I’m very excited about the overseas release of this game. All we ever get is the Naruto games and One Piece is so much better than Naruto!

  • Shogunreaper

Man i hope its true, i’d love to play a one piece game on my ps3, even if its a dynasty warriors clone.

i just hope it comes out at the same time, instead of them wasting months dubbing the new characters since they are 300+ episodes behind in the dub

  • Learii

i hope this is comng oversea like all the DW and Gundam DW i know ppl will  want this as well

  • http://twitter.com/ZeroFlame16 ZeroFlame16

Glad to see a One Piece game coming overseas.  Still wish we could get the Unlimited Cruise games for the Wii.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1443425328 Manuel Antony Marcano

Or the 3ds version of them that Europe is getting.

      • TheMysticalNinja

Sometimes it’s great to be European *looks at Unlimited Cruise wii games and smiles* :D

        • Testsubject909

Blame the US crowd being ninja crazy… despite the fact that he’s as far away from what a Ninja is.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

This’ll probably suck for Funimation. They haven’t even reached the time-skip yet. lol

    • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/DrakosAmatras DrakosAmatras

So… Japanese tracks and English subtitles like Unlimited Cruise games? I’m not complaining here~

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/EnvyMizuhashi Garyuu

I had to look that up. lol Sure, that would be the case a long time ago, but given that this is by Koei, it’ll most likely have a dub anyway. Besides, I was talking about Funimation in terms of advertising. After all, OP is one of their flagship releases.

        • Testsubject909

They’d probably need to rework the voices for the game anyways as I’m sure the pacing and timing will be different then that of the anime.

So if anything. I see this as the voice actors hired by FUNImation getting some training for when the actual episodes are going to get translated.

  • ShadowWolf

i’ll buy it to support One Piece in America if it comes here………speaking of, i promised to buy some one piece stuff since Funimation posted the fullmetal alchemist movie on youtube.

    • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

You should, Ive been making sure to get the DVDs so they can bring out One Piece Strong World at least, and continue to dub the series. I need my One Piece.

      • ShadowWolf

that was the intention, to buy One Piece DVDs.

      • Testsubject909

        Robin’s outfit in Strong World!

…If you’ll excuse me, I need to wipe off some saliva.

        • http://tristsantithesis.tumblr.com/ Tsunayoshi Sawada

Ive seen so much art of Strong World, characters look so amazing, ugh, if they would bring it out to the US!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/snelkin Sarah Louise Nelkin

    I LOVE ONE PIECE!!!
…Ahem. Anyway, if they bring this with Japanese audio, I will purchase. If not, I will import.

  • kroufonz

    oh yes, nice move bamco!

  • Xekyo

    this would be the tits.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_TWQ2HJO5VMSEPS5RDQDVRDM52A Shawn D

sick of Dynasty Warriors  type games HEY GUYS LETS FIGHT TONS OF DUMB AI ENEMIES with insane   combos and attack  COME ON  one piece needs a better game

  • http://www.facebook.com/CedXMK1 Cedric Joseph

The moment this game sets sail to the US I am getting it!! Then I will place right beside my One Piece unlimited adventure.

  • Solomon_Kano

Whatever they call it, I’m buying. US One Piece games come few and far between and that’s enough for me to overlook it just being Dynasty Warriors: Pirates, even though that’s the reason I DON’T buy DW: Gundam.

    Huh. Yay, hypocrisy!

    • http://myfigurecollection.net/collection/DrakosAmatras DrakosAmatras

At least this game’s pretty much guaranteed to have solid crowd-combat mechanics, considering Omega-Force’s prior experience. Certainly better than fighting a meager group of grunts repeatedly in Unlimited Cruise.

I hope they replicate the large-scale fights well~ I’m really looking forward to the Enies Lobby brawl.

      • Solomon_Kano

Never got to play Unlimited Cruise (no Wii here), but this certainly sounds better than fighting a few grunts over and over. I mean, I have no problem with this being like DW since the series pretty much makes that an important aspect to have. I just didn’t like Gundam games in that style.

Considering what Omega Force has done prior, I’d -think- they should be able to handle a large-scale battle like that but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

        • Testsubject909

Unlimited Cruise was a fun game but it failed in providing that sense that you were one of the Straw Hat Pirates outside of the awesome boss battles.

When you were fighting grunts, they seemed too resillient and yourself too ineffective to take them down fast enough. Robin for example was quite difficult to manage some crowd control outside of her special limit-style attack.

Honestly, for me, the best part of Unlimited Cruise was the vs mode. Go through the campaign for only ONE thing. Unlock every characters.

Then never touch it again and just pop it in to do vs fights.

          • Solomon_Kano

If the VS mode was the best part, I wonder if whoever made it will just make a One Piece fighting game in the future?

I don’t recall seeing one of those (in the  US, at least) since the PS2 days (and, with how hazy my memory of it is, it probably wasn’t really a fighter anyway lol), so that’d be nice to see if they did a good job with the VS mode.

  • rinalicat

SWEET. I can’t wait to beat some Marines Gum-Gum style!

  • ロークロライ

Awesome. I love Bleach Soul Ignition (Resurrección) even though it’s thin on content and Kaizoku Musou looks like lots of fun. In the Manga/Anime series the characters are super-powerful, thus the games aptly recreate that feeling.

A domestic release is kinder to my wallet than a Japanese import. Original VAs are a given, just hoping the release is not that far off.

The models look great btw, art direction is spot on.

  • Testsubject909

    Ah yes, forgot.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twyskFvL0EA

Luffy’s Elephant Gun! Only downside? He doesn’t seem to turn chibi afterwards.

  • poisui

For once, I am impressed by a One Piece videogame (Typically, they tend to be mediocre).

  • AndyFe

It’ll be cool if this came over seas I have tried these type of games many times but always get bored of them. Hopefully since it’s one piece it might keep my interest like fist of the north star did

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/N35QXT7BKNB7DV7OI4NCO45AEI one piece fan

PLEASE PLEASE BRING THIS GAME OVERSEAS!
i don’t want to go through all the crap of buying a separate japanese ps3 just to play it.
