Less Fantasy, More Realism For Ninja Gaiden 3 Says Team Ninja

With Ninja Gaiden 3 slated for release later this month, Team Ninja have been talking more about the game and how it’s different from Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden 2. The major difference, they say in a new developer diary (above), is that the game’s story is meant to be more realistic.


In order to do this, Team Ninja cut down on the fantasy elements. For instance, instead of fighting beasts and monsters, Ryu now takes on more human opponents and interacts more with other characters as well, occasionally giving a glimpse into his emotions. The change is represented in the game’s visual style as well, which has a darker tone than previous games, and Ryu himself has been made more muscular in order to create a feeling of weightiness.

Ninja Gaiden 3 is slated for release on March 20th in North America and March 23rd in Europe on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A separate version will be released for the Wii U at a later date.

  • This game is indeed realistic. Why do you think Ryu only has one weapon? Imagine him equipped with 10 weapons and potions under that tight suit of his!! and for Dallas’ comment, the rex turning into metal shows that even a human being like Ryu can be powerful and that hope to defeat what is impossible is present. I liked this game and enjoyed it very much as I did for the previous two games. This game is based on emotions. Ryu is also fighting himself as he has a curse and that even with that, he has confidence to accomplish his personal goal to bring balance to the world.
