New Rurouni Kenshin Game In Development For PSP?

By Spencer . April 30, 2012 . 12:50am

imageJump Square has a list of projects tied to the Rurouni Kenshin Cinema Version. A new OVA is coming in June right before the live action Rurouni Kenshin movie on August 25.

Jump Square also reports a Rurouni Kenshin app is coming in May and a new game for PSP is in the works.

So, why the question mark? The link to the game’s site takes us to last year’s Rurouni Kenshin game, which also happens to be for PSP. I don’t think Jump Square, a publication from Shueisha, would say a new game is coming to PSP among a list of eight other Kenshin items slated for 2012 and mean last year’s release. Maybe we’re going to get Super Rurouni Kenshin Turbo this year?

    SAY WHAT?! another PSP game?!

…..I swear this PSP section is always the most active in this SITE and also the 3DS… there are always new updates in this 2 platforms…. ^_^

  • d19xx

How did the first game do btw? I’ve only seen vids of the first psp game from Youtube and the animation looks really stiff. :b

  • Zeidge

Don’t know if I should be happy another is coming out or sad that it’s never coming out in English.

  • Zenkaider

    Here’s hoping it’s NOT a Super-Turbo-Arcade-3D-Ultra-mega-X rated-chocolate-fudge coated-butter slapped-caramel induced-illegally sexy-goddamn spank my butt and call me suzie Version of the same game.[I know,I know...XD goshdarn LK!XDXD]

While the previous game was pretty nice for a Kenshin fighter,it was very,VERY clearly a budget fighter, even if Banpresto poped here and there to help add some new mechanics in the game.

Personally,I’d love to see Banpresto collaborate again with Eighting to make another masterpiece Kenshin game, like they did with Enjou!Kyoto Rinne for the PS2,or just gather their experience from that game and from their Kamen Rider Seigi no Keifu game and just make a portable Kenshin game like the aformentioned games.

Enjou!Kyoto Rinne was a great game and it sold well in Japan.Since Banpy is now with Namdai, the latter ought to use the former to make good anime games…Banpy may excel in awesome,over-the-top Mecha crossover games, but their licenced games also pack quite a punch that gives lasting impressions.

As a PSP fan… I live in the wrong friggin’ country.

    • Prinnydoom

Oh well psp isn’t region locked. Have at it ^____^

If it is a Super Rurouni Kenshin Saisen, they have a LOT to fix!

For the love of *.*, I hope it’s not yet another mediocre PSP game for quick milking.. Is it so difficult to finally give Kenshin a proper 2D console fighter like BlazBlue, even Persona 4 or Nurarihyon no Mago got one..  The 2.5D PSP fighter had no specific character animation.. I mean let the people who did Skullgirls do one, each char has tons of diff. animation..

The 1st part of the new OVA was alrdy released, unfortunately it was also very mediocre (the action scenes were very weak except the new Shishio-Yumi sex scene *.*), regret getting the blu-ray (as expected it wasn’t really told from Misao’s point of view, just extremely condensed summary), disappointed in the director who worked on the previous OVAs.. to think that the Hunter x Hunter got such a high quality remake..

I do like the current art of Watsuki though, like the new covers he drew for the bunko-ban, better than the kanzen-ban..  but I just wish he would go back to work on Embalming..

At any rate, I think Kenshin deserves more than some bad PSP games and half baked OVAs.. otherwise just leave the title be..

    • Zenkaider

Enjou!Kyoto Rinne…on the PSP…would that fix everything…if they added more?

Seriously though,it’s Namdai, the best we can hope for,is for the game to NOT be the Turbo Remix of the previous one,or another mediocre fighter.Though,we can also hope they put B.B. Studio to use and give us something truly worthwhile.:)

      • Aoshi00

I bought Kyoto Rinne but haven’t played it much, Busou Renkin got a similar kinda game too..

I don’t even mind letting CC2 do an Asura’s Wrath kinda game, at least it would look like an amazing 3D Kenshin anime..

Actually I don’t think we’d be getting a new PSP game, the cellphone app probably just has a bunch of links to the new stuffs that came out recently including the awful PSP game (did you hear the sub-par voice acting and the amateurish char portraits..)..

Hope they won’t mess up the live action movie.. I want to see what kind of Saitou would Eguchi Yousuke do lol..

A BB-like fighter would probably be a dream till I die.. Watsuki’s manga are just so fit for 2D fighters, imagine 2D fighters w/ Kenshin, Gun Blaze West, Busou Renkin, & Embalming.. I mean check out this 2D Saint Seiya game on Youtube.. would be much more fun than a Musou game even though the PS3 game wasn’t bad..

        • Zenkaider

EF YEAH,the Busou Renkin game rocked beyond belief, even if it was like a Musou one[if anything,it proved to me that Marvelous CAN make awesome anime game sequels].

An Asura’s Wrath Kenshin game would be a great solution at this point, instead of getting another awfull OVA like that and getting to have the awesome action scenes with perhaps a bit of the CC2 flavour.

I like to hope.If the PS could get two RPGS,the PSP can get two Kenshin games.I just hope this one is a quality one.Man,the game had some facepalm worthy moments, both in performance and gameplay mechanics[seriously...no option for the timer? It's freaking modern 2.5D Fighter...for the love of...]

I’m more eager to see if Munetaka would be a good Sano…Sato can do a Kenshin and Jin-E looks good.

Personally,I wouldn’t want a 2D fighter from BB studio nor from the Blazblue team currently, but a 2D fighter from the original Guilty Gear Team…I’m all for it.Even better,if they make it a “Watsuki All Stars”,like you say.The PS2 games were good, but very gimmicky…it was Dimps’ expiremental period after all, before the Shin Budokais…though at this point,I wouldn’t mind having Dimps do a good 2D Kenshin fighter.

Even if we don’t a game of Kyoto Rinne’s caliber,at least let us have a fighter of Samurai Deeper Kyo’s caliber.Sure it wasn’t SNK Vs Capcom or Guilty Gear’s level, but it was enjoyable and captured the theme and tone of the series.

The OVA was all sorts of disappointing. Not only is it super condensed (I was excited about the “movies” because I expected two full lenght motion pictures, not a couple of 45 minute episodes) but they also tried to make it more realistic. One my favorite moments in the original anime/manga was at the end of the Chou fight when Kenshin made the decision to kill him to save the annoying baby (he didn’t know the new katana was a sakabatou), complete with awesome Mayo Suzukaze screaming. The OVA just has him doing some lame spin and beating him in one shot already knowing its a sakabatou, taking all the urgency and drama from the fight. I expected a lotfrom this Rurouni Kenshin revival, maybe have them finally animating the Jinchuu arc but the PSP game is mediocre and the OVAs are short and disappointing. All that’s left is the live action movie but my expectations are low…

      • Aoshi00

yeah, I hear you, I definietly know they tried a more realistic approach for the action (like when Kenshin was saving Misao at the cliff, instead of jumping back up, he caught a rock’s edge, which also seems a bit unnatural and difficult for that speed), but the iconic fight scenes just came off as rushed, very powerless and literally having no impact at all, unlike Tsuioku-hen or Seisou-hen both had great action, also like you said the chars’ mindsets were either glossed over or omitted so the viewer just can’t feel anything, let alone new audience not familiar w/ the original manga/anime..

The seiyuu cast did a pretty good job after such a long time gap, except you could hear Yahiko (Kanai Mika) sounding a lot older, and Shishio sounds a little different, Narita Ken sounds surprisingly similar as Saitou’s replacement.  I was afraid they would sound horrible because the cast didn’t even try for the PSP game (Kenshin sounded like a girl *.*)..

I hope the live action movie would turn out decent (the Ranma 1/2 TV special was awful).  It’s a bit disappointing when Hunter x Hunter got such an amazing remake while Kenshin’s getting scraps.. I just don’t believe they would do Jinchuu unless I see it *.*, or getting a quality console game ever.. will see what the new Watuski shorts look like.. maybe about the Hokkaidou-hen he wanted to do for so long.. I just want to read more new Embalming though..

As depressing as Seisou’s ending was and not the happy ending that Watsuki emphasized, I did like both OVAs a lot, it was very sad but very artistic and beautiful.. the animation was good and we had an Enishi fight at least.. would be cool if we could see Jinchuu fully animated as a series one day.. but I’m not crossing my fingers..

I agree. Make it a full fledged out PS3 game actually. I liked the PS1 & PS2 RPGs. Japan keeps skipping over the PS3 and it sucks

I honestly didn’t even notice that Rurouni Kenshin games were still being made, or even the OVAs for that matter! I stopped after the depressing movie that was Seisouhen…

    • Zenkaider

If you haven’t read the manga,do it now.Even Watsuki[the author] hates the ending on the ovas because “Kenshin deserves a happier ending”.I promise you,you will be among the happiest when you read the final chapters and the omake that follow.

Damn straight i love rurouni kenshin ending was good too ^___^

Watsuki says its not canon so its not canon. I’m sticking to that.

    PSP….WHERE IS PS VITA?

  • shinobi_onizuka

I was just playing the ps2 game so this is great news!!

  • Placido

Sounds so awesome. Except it’ll probably never see the light of day in English. Sigh.

this is like 1 year old and the game is still nowhere to be seen. The first ova already came out and it was crap. They cut the fat off the original episodes (ala DBZ Kai) and updated the art but they tried too hard to imitate the Betrayal ovas and failed and at the same time ruined the mood of the original series. I hope they do better with the second one since that’s when the real action starts.
