Namco Bandai will release a new Rurouni Kenshin game for PSP this summer. It’s a versus fighting just like Rurouni Kenshin: Saisen which the publisher released last year. A teaser site for the next Rurouni Kenshin title is live and has a few bits of artwork. Perhaps, we’ll see these fights in the upcoming PSP game?

Its good to see that even after all these years rurouni ken shin is still going strong ^____^

I read that this and the previous game was developed by Banpresto. I also read that the previous game was so bad.

Banpresto is good at 2D RPGs (mostly, strategy-RPGs) with beautiful, detailed and over-the-top attack animations and fan-service like their SRW games or Endless Frontier or Queen’s Gate. I wonder they didn’t decided to turn it instead to a type of game the developer is really good at.

Or if it turned to a fighting game, I think the likes of Arc Sys, Examu (Arcana Heart series) or SNK would be much preferred. Heck, it would be a dream come true for RuroKen creator Nobuhiro Watsuki if it’s developed by SNK since he’s a huge fan of Samurai Shodown / Samurai Spirits.

    Oh well.

The game had an in-house development by Namco Bandai and Banpresto actually popped in for the SNK style Jump commands and to fix some detection issues or something of the sort. They were,at the time and until now, busy with the Super Robot Taisen 20 years anniversary celebrations and games[Z2 games].

One has to remember that Banpresto nowadays is just a studio of Namco Bandai, even if they are still fairly indepedent[as in keeping their trademark series to develop for themeselves, their old logo etc] they still have obligations to Namco Bandai as they are part of it.

As for Banpy’s style, sure,SRW may be their forte, but they are very diverse themselves and usually do very good work and the thing is that they can work wonders with the RurouKen license. It’s them after all, with a collaobration from Eighting, that made Enjou!Kyoto Rinne and they made Kamen Rider Seigi no Keifu.

Now for the game itself,it would be ideal if SNK could develop it or even Dimps, since the first tried to copy several mechanics from the KoF series but it’s Namco Bandai we are talking about. Our best bet is just a small time developer they are currently using, whether they are part of them or just independent.Examples would be Banpresto and Eighting, one currently working on SRW and the other working for the Kamen Rider Climax Heroes Series.Namdai could easily arange for them to collaborate for the Kenshin game, but I wouldn’t hope for that much.Or they could use Dimps for this game as well instead of just the new Saint Seiya Ω game.

    • The game wasnt so bad it just lacked some other options and features. One thing was the tedious story mode but it had that slowmo thing that lead to really long combos plus Soujiro, Battousai, and Shinsengumi Saito were playable :D

      • Zenkaider

The Slow-mo was one of the cheapest mechanics in the game and it just emphasized how half baked the combo system was and how slow the actual game was unfortunately. It may have given extremely noobish players[as in,those that never played a  fighting game before] a chance but other than that,it was tedious.

As for the lack of options, some were so eye-pocking that it was painfully obvious it was the same team from Namco Bandai that developed the Mahou Shoujo fighters for the PSP since most of the features lacking are absent in both series…and to say that they were some complicated things…ok.But not being able to have a faster gameplay and unlimited while having at least 3 more complicated gameplay elements like weapon changing and the jump commands,is just mind boggling…then again,it is Namdai we are talking about.

        • they could have just used the same system as soul calibur but in 2D but hey thats just my opinion

The last game was PSP fodder and this game is looking to be a hard sequel with maybe 1 or 2 new features. I’m pretty sure this game will be just as bad as the first.
