Atelier Ayesha And Her Friends Get Animated

By Spencer . May 21, 2012 . 1:01pm

Gust released a new trailer of Atelier Ayesha, which shows the alchemist exploring the world and in battle. Well, in this video Juris, a hunter armed with a crossbow, does most of the fighting. Atelier Ayesha has a new battle system that lets players move characters around the battlefield. If you can get behind an enemy, you can hit them with a more powerful back attack.

Atelier Ayesha comes out on June 28 in Japan.

I don’t have fangirl(or,er, boy in this case) moments often, but….Harry is cute. There. I said it.

  • Carlos Escalante

Looks AMAZING. Hope we get it early next year…

  • Draparde

I love the way it looks in movement~
i’ll be sure to pick it up when the inevitable english release date comes around :D

  • … They didn’t even brothered with lip sync, did they?

    • usagi_san

Apparently not. I’ll still be getting the game anyways.

    • Letiumtide

That’s the first thing that stood out to me.

      • MrRobbyM

Same. I know these Atelier are more or less low budget(dem environments), but seriously. Quality check, people. Quality check.

        • Yeah. If they are going to make it like this, why not just use the regular VN like the others games had?

Star Ocean 4 had such a bad lip-sync that it forced me to use the japanese dub (Which I don’t like that much, I prefer English Dubs)

          • yalissa

Well. I think that it probably has to do with some minor complaints quite a few people had about the regular VN stuff. It was along the lines of, “Oh. They have such great character models. Why can’t they use them for animated cutscenes instead? Aren’t they just being lazy? It’s so outdated.”
It may just be me, but I’ve been hearing people complain about it for quite a while.
I honestly don’t care though. Their character models are absolutely gorgeous!

  • CobbleCake

I like how he took the time to get into the red monster’s line of fire after he attacked it from the rear.

  • puchinri

Oh goodness, I just love it all. >u<

Juris is so over the top and awesome, Wilbell is hilarious and gets to summon a dragon and the battle system just looks like so much fun.

The alchemy is looking great too.

  • Learii

what the bar under hp and mp during   battle?

  • Looking good there Ayesha. Cannot wait for a localisation soon.

  • icecoffemix

How did they made Marina Inoue sounds like that? oO

I almost had her fooled with Mamiko Noto or that other soft voiced seiyuu.

    • grevlinghore

Who is Marina Inoue? Was there anyone with a soft voice in this trailer? D:
Since you mentioned Mamiko, I guess Ayesha does sound a little bit like her…

      • icecoffemix

        It’s Ayesha…

Did you see that coming? :p

      • PoweredByHentai

You need to watch Skip Beat.  It is available for free online streaming on CrunchyRoll.

        Just do it.

    • PoweredByHentai

I would assume that it would be the same way that they got INOUE Marina to voice Alicia Melchiott in Valkyria Chronicles.

What still broadsides me is the fact that she was Yoko in Gurren Lagann.  >_<

Her role as Kana in Minami-ke was glorious.  So glad that they're making a 4th season of it.  XD

      • icecoffemix

I’m familiar with her most with Chiri on SZS and harem anime (:P) which she usually voice stern characters (Yozora, Neito, Laura) so the one here is kind of surprising.

Imo, Alicia still fall under stern/hoarse girl character, so that fit her with her usual role perfectly. I must say that Gust did a nice job hiring her for Ayesha though, that’s a nice surprise. :p

        • PoweredByHentai

Oh yeah, her role as Matsurika in Maria Holic is to die for.  XD

      • komiko12

        Really? Minami-ke season 4?
*adds to list of anime to be  the watched in the future*

  • Wilbell has already got a special spot in my party (and heart). ;3

    • puchinri

Same here~. I’m really loving all the cast, but Wilbell is just stealing a particularly nice spot in my party and heart. (Doesn’t hurt that I love witch characters a lot too~.)

  • Each Atelier game looks prettier and more fluid than the last, and this one certainly doesn’t disappoint! The portraits on the bottom of the screen during battle are also quite lovely.

  • The games looks fine to me. I like the way they’re all talking while you’re gathering materials, looks like exploration will be more lively and fun.

Now I don’t know what to think about the battle system, now that there’s position to take account of, the battles won’t be as fast paced as in Totori or Meruru (it was a problem for me in Rorona, animations made the fight too slow), but it looks dynamic enough to be fun, attacks looks funny to watch too so i’m okay with it, even if i’d like some more details about how distance affect the battle.

Well, there’s nothing i don’t like about what i can see of the game, I loved Totori, Meruru looks like Totori but even better, and Ayeshi looks greatly promising for now, there’s no way i won’t buy it.

  • Ben Sylvia

Shooting randomly into the sky with your crossbow that doesn’t have to be manually loaded is the best tactic to use when fighting monsters.

    I approve.

  • jeremy_germ

The walking looks so weird… It’s as if you’re floating half the time when going down stairs.

    •  Well those weren’t really stairs <..> :3

      • jeremy_germ

        Rocks. Marvelous rocks.

  • AzureNova

Atelier Ayesha looks like it is going to be very very nice. The graphics, detail, character design, and landscapes all look beautiful, and the combat reminds me of Arc Rise Fantasia.

Atelier Ayesha and Hyperdimension Neptunia V for the win!!! =^_^=

    • puchinri

Hahaha, I thought of the ARF battle system quite a bit too.

  • Man, Ayesha is quite quick on her feet. Looks great, cant wait to buy it once NISA plans to release this as well :D

  • yalissa

Wow. After watching this trailer, it’s hard to believe how much this series has improved within the past few years. The character models are gorgeous! It’s really hard to believe that such a small company can produce such an amazing looking game of such quality every year (around the same time too) with such a budget. The battle system is… different. I like different. Although I’ll kinda miss the old battle system a bit, this one seems really fun! The running animation still seems kinda funky, but the animation’s amazing nonetheless.

Definitely getting this on day one.

    • nekoCiel

i dint knew that gust was a small company >.< them having made
Atelier series that has 6 series under it also
Ar tonelico series , and many more its a shock for me to read that its a small company wow

  • when i first saw the artwork for the new cast i was a little bit concerned. especially about how they’d fit into atelier’s “cutesy” world. although we’ve already been told this is a much more mature atelier. seeing them in game, they fit so well. i’m really growing fond of their designs. it really looks like they took the best of the series and evolved into a much deeper rpg. the synthing looks more complicated. it also looks little more combat focused.

    • puchinri

Well, Atelier didn’t start out as a “cutesy” world (fortunately), and I like this one for being very similar to the earliest and earlier entries in the series, but still with the more cute style like Kishida-sensei’s art. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind art more like the Salburg and Gramnad series actually, but I adore Hidari’s art and designs a lot, so this is fantastic.

  • enorka miho

The only downside about this game is that never use an SD TV… Cuz believe it or not I am one of the minorities… :(

  • nekoCiel

ahh i missed the atelier games that isnt just cute and has a interesting stroy coughatelieriris3cough

  • This is beautiful.
I hope it has more engaging story like Iris series and hope that it’ll come out sometime next year. Also hope A15 will be Mana Khemia 3 :D

  • Nitraion

They added conversation when exploring, now main heroine can protect too XD
also maybe they should work on lip-sync just that the problem, everythingelse is great

  • Astrid Huang

“Atelier Ayesha has a new battle system that lets players move characters around the battlefield.”

That is a huge improvement. Kind of reminds me of Eternal Sonata.

I love the character designs of the Arland series, but to be honest, I feel like Atelier Ayesha’s character designs are somewhat inferior to the Arland series. They still look nice, but not very memorable. There’s a lot of funny moments in Arland series, but this one seems much more serious. I could be wrong though.

Aside from that, I find the graphics to be more detailed here. The character models already look good since Totori, but the environments and graphics fx look even better now. And I can see now the conversation is more dynamic, not with character artworks anymore.

  • hadjimurad

looks great, as noted by all…..BUT, dang, how small is she gonna be during exploring? she and the monsters are going to be 1-2 inches tall on my 26 inch 1080 (haha). text? forget it…i hope they add an option to zoon in the camera and increase text size.

  • z_merquise

I’m starting to get interested in this series. I take that this is an all-new story/settings and not related to the previous games, right? Correct me if I’m wrong.

Also, I love the artwork. Who’s the artist/designer from the characters?

    • Zeonsilt

Yes,this game not related to “Arland” series.
      Here’s the character designer.

    • puchinri

The artist/designer for Ayesha is Hidari, who also handled the designs and art for Fractale and the character designs for Natsuiro Kiseki. I’m quite the fan of their art too~. (And the design work.)

Even though I was interested in the series in the PS1 days, I kind of lost interest eventually, was meh with Arland and am again highly interested~. And this may or may not be my first title in the series too. I think Ayesha is looking like it’ll make a great place to become acquainted with the series. ^u^

  • 肉@バカ夜空

GUST needs more money to make better cutscene animations. The cutscenes are just like the ones from the Arland series, except that there are no character sprites.

Give GUST money. Purchase their games.
