Demon’s Souls Stays Online, In Other News Black Phantom Kills Thousands

By Spencer . May 25, 2012 . 10:58am

imageAtlus was going to pull the plug on the Demon’s Souls servers at the end of May, but the online experience will live on for "the foreseeable future."

"While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon’s Souls," said Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Marketing and Sales. "For all the gamers who have yet to discover the game’s amazing online experience, we’re happy to say you can still log on and find out why Demon’s Souls is still regarded by many as one of the finest games of all time."

Extending the North American servers again is possible, if Demon’s Souls continues to have server activity and player interest. Demon’s Souls is available for $19.99 as a Greatest Hits title for PlayStation 3.

Wow. Not sure how, but I’m not complaining.

    • Godmars

I am: I sold my copy cause the servers were going down :(

      • cj_iwakura

I’d never get rid of it. Even 1p only, it’s still a breathtaking experience.

        • MrRobbyM

Literally. When you gasp and yell when you die when trying to retrieve the 60k souls you lost…

        • Godmars

Tried playing it a few times off line, had too because of some outages, and lack of ghosts and ghost signs just made it feel empty.

        • Cloud_ST

Agreed,I actually like the single player more.

      • Testsubject909

        I don’t comprehend why.

  • Again could this just be mde more specific? Demon’s souls was going to stay online whether or not atlus took their servers offline, because you know, europe and asia exist as well.

But I digress, this is good news for the US fans.

    • The problem is regionalized servers and game disk. Atlus should cut a deal with Namco and Sony to close all regionalized servers and create a legacy worldwide Demon’s Souls servers for everybody to play. With the patching capability of the ps3 why not hell I pay a one time fee to get it if they want to!

  • ShinStar

This is like, the 3rd time they’ve done this lol. But hey, I’m not going to complain either. After putting it off for so long, I’m going to finally play the game!!!

Nah, I’ll put it off for another 6 months….lol j/k j/k! GAME ON!!!!

  • WHAT?! I mean, I’m not complaining, but that’s quite a pleasant surprise! Well, FromSoft did a good job with the game; if they’re making any profit from this, they deserve every cent of it.

I wonder if this decision has to do with user demands regarding how it’s easier to hook up with the person you want to play with in Demon’s Souls?

  • Roubjon

Awesome.  I’ll definitely play it through again for the umpteenth time.  I haven’t touched it since Dark Souls.

  • CirnoLakes

It sounds like some very upset Demon’s Souls fans got very loud about it going offline.

    And Atlus listened.

  • gouramiagogo

Wow, I’m busy next week so I played a little last night, getting summoned as the boss in Latria.  Thought it would be my last (online) experiences in Bolteria, but I guess not.  Good news.

    • Testsubject909

Hehe… My first recorded vs fight summoned as the black phantom boss of the tower of Latria 3-3 and it’s an overwhelming one sided battle… Poor guy…

  • THIS is why i love Atlus

  • badmoogle

Just in time for Demon’s Souls 2 E3 announcement! :p

Btw the next time Atlus will say “the DS srvers are going to close” i don’t think anyone will believe them lol.

    • Testsubject909

And yet, the fear will nevertheless sustain us.

What holds strongest? The eventual end of all things, or the love of Demon’s Souls within Atlus?

      • badmoogle

        What fear?

        *Hugs Asian version* :p

        • Testsubject909

Ah…. Well, odds are if ever the servers went down, I’d probably just buy a different region retail copy and rework on a new quad of characters for fun.

Which is basically what I’m doing and recording right now.

  • I approve. It’s fun to hope back on every once in a while.

  • Testsubject909

I await you all in Boletaria

May thine strength help the world be mended…

That and, you don’t want to meet me in 3-3. And I’m always up for offering my aide as a blue phantom, so long as I’m within your Soul Level range.

  • Man, I need to buy a PS3.  This game looks too fun!

  • Ricardo Guedes

i never find anyone to help, dont care

  • Roberto Armando Iraheta

    You can’t kill this Demon’s Soul(s).

  • Solomon_Kano

Y’know, I’ve been meaning to get this for the longest time. Soon, I say. Soon.

  • Ronald Bixler

Orange, cone-shaped, wrapped robe headgear for everyone!

  • SirRichard

If you haven’t gotten the game yet and have a PS3…what the hell are you waiting for, lads? Grab it while the multiplayer is still on, and remember that Black World Tendency means the game is feeling merciful and going to give you an easy time!

    • badmoogle

      “Be wary of false messages”

  • Mister_Nep

I was playing this as much as possible before the servers went down. Now I can take my time, but I’ll still aim to finish it this year. I want my experience with the online alive and kicking. As much as possible.

It’s great watching bloodstains, and see how somebody died….until you leave a bloodstain of your own….

  • Alright, maybe it’s time for me to finally give this game a shot.

  • I love this game.  Seriously.  It’s easily in my top 5 of all time.  Atlus keeping the servers alive is excellent news!

  • nice ta see gamez other den da zoggin’ Shootaz doin’ well for dem selves.

Humie Translator Robot: ‘sighs’ i have such a thankless job, he says hes happy to see a game that isn’t a FPS doing well for once.
