Konami And PlatinumGames Talk Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

By Ishaan . June 2, 2012 . 4:15pm

We missed this earlier during the week, but Konami have put up a short video of Kojima Productions and PlatinumGames discussing the development of Metal Gear Rising. The game takes place nine years after Metal Gear Solid 4, and PlatinumGames mention other details such as additional weapons aside from Raiden’s katana. Take a look at the video below:

Zan datsu in still intact. CHECK!
Stealth in still intact (Tenchu essence sorta way?). CHECK!
    Watermelon cutting intact. CHECK!
My childhood hero as a main Character again with actual gameplay. CHECK!

Now I wonder if we get that MGS4 Raiden as a costume as well. Plus I actually liked that HF Blade (MGS4). Well rising I have exactly 60 bucks and im actually gonna buy the limited edition as well!!!!

For some reason, I think Raiden looks like a Final Fantasy character in Revengeance…

    • revenent hell

lol do I hear crossover game Final Revengeance?

    • MrRobbyM

Some of his poses remind me of Lightning’s battle poses.

    • Nitraion

In the past i always look him like Riku in KH lol…
I thought he is like riku’s brother or something XD

  • Paradox me

The game looks incredible and I’m glad folks seem to be coming around to it.

Nothing wrong with a series, that has otherwise run its course, trying new things, especially for a spin-off whose gameplay suits its main character perfectly. It even sounds like they’re putting a little effort into the story (though I’m not expecting anything on the same level as the main series).

    We’re taking a beating here!

Ryu Hayabusa’s down! Bayonetta is nowhere to be seen! Dante is replaced by a rebellious youth, left us and headed west.

You are our only hope now, Raiden. Make it right!

    can’t wait for MGR

  • If only Rising would have released earlier… we could have had Raiden in Anarchy Reigns! :(

Anyway, this video was awesome. Remember the last scene from the first Revegeance trailer which had Raiden fighting against a cyborg in the subway? This video kind of spoils the conclusion… Looks like Raiden is going to suffer

    • MrRobbyM

      DLC anyone?

    • Nemesis_Dawn

Do you think Sega could afford to have another company’s character in one of their games at the moment?

    • Guest

Not so sure. It’s still a Konami game. Sure there’s possibilites for a cameo crossover and maybe even later on DLC, but I mean, we don’t even have Sam Gideon of Vanquish and he is 100% Platinum Games & SEGA.
Also would be nice to have Gene of Godhand since the former members of Clover did that game and are now a part of Platinum Games but of course thats a Capcom game.

I actually liked the part where Inaba-san said that P* is the best action-maker studio in the world. Shows people they’re confident but, the trailers indeed do justice. :)

Unlike certain studio who keeps insulting the original and other action franchises, and the trailers + demos doesn’t delivers. -_-

    • Sperium3000

       Which studio is that..?

      • GreekGod88

lol F****** Ninja Theory of course

  • canarinta

“We’re a new (indie) band with music focusing on us teenagers’ hardships and how stupid adults have been the cause!”

“Our first album, coming out on Dec 12, 2012, is named Revengance after the pain that we will unleash back on them tenfold.”

    • MrRobbyM

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

    • Don’t forget to check out the hit single, “Revenge with a Vengeance”!

  • thaKingRocka

The more I see of this game, the more I want it. I am all about this.

  • Nitraion

    Director has spoken!!! :)

  • Mr_SP

At 13:25… Is Raiden cutting a pig… or a Tsuchinoko?

    • Nathan_GreeneIV

If its either of those things Raiden might eat it. (MGS3 Reference)

  • I wonder what would happen if Snake happens to appear in this game.
    OH WAIT! I know:
“War… has changed, battlefield… has changed!”

  • Göran Isacson

Oh Jack. You could’ve rocked the gourmet world if you only knew some restraint…

As for the game itself, I’m not really feeling it. The thing is that it looks fun to PLAY, but the story just did such a one-eighty. The mood has been totally flipped around, and I’m not just talking stealth versus action here. This is Bayonetta levels of action in a world which has up until now been all about the bitter struggle of a man who, though he is highly trained is still just a man fighting in a relatively low-key manner. This doesn’t look like it’s JUST “let’s actually PLAY as one of the super-powered kooks we usually fight”, it feels like it’s a totally different world. I love Bayonetta, riding a missile and punching out God was amazing, but that kind of mood suited Bayonetta- not Metal Gear Solid. I just cannot believe that a soldier like Snake could ever beat a souped-up super cyborg like Raiden, whereas I could believe that Snake could tackle all the other outlandish bosses he came across.

  • As far as I am concerned, this is the awesome spiritual successor to Bayonetta, not an MGS game.
