Journey Collector’s Edition Comes With Journey, Fl0w And Fl0wer

By Ishaan . June 25, 2012 . 12:01pm

This August, Sony will publish Journey Collector’s Edition for PlayStation 3 as a retail title in North America. The disc will come with thatgamecompany’s latest game, Journey, as well as their two previous games, Fl0w and Fl0wer.

Also included on the disc will be a 30-minute behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Journey, and a playthrough of all three games with developer commentary. The soundtracks for all three games, along with concept art, PlayStation 3 themes, and avatars will be part of the package, too.

Finally, The Collector’s Edition will also include three exclusive mini-games developed by thatgamecompany. It will be released on August 28th for $30.

All that for 30 dollars? Great package! So totally bought.

  • http://twitter.com/Nephlabobo Neal Power

    Great package.

Glad they’re listening to consumers who want these games on a disc.

    Will gladly support.

  • Asura

Aaaaah, if I didn’t already spend $25 on Flower and Journey. I’ll have to skip out, I’m too poor to buy something where I already own 50-60% of it.

  • Jirin

Huh.  The only reason I haven’t played this game yet is that I don’t have a wireless connection in my house, but here’s what I don’t get.  They’re charging much more for the physical copy than for the download, and justifying it by adding a behind the scenes documentary?

Tip for thatgamecompany:  Gamers don’t typically exhibit the same consumer habits as Criterion shoppers. If they did, Working Designs would still be around.

    • http://www.geekrevolt.com/ DeShaun Zollicoffer

Tip for Jirin: You need to read the whole post, it comes with Flow and Flower and three mini-games. $30 for all that isn’t bad, there’s no reason to be outraged, seriously.

      • Jirin

I’m not outraged.  I just find it an odd marketing approach.

Yeah, they have two other games that come with it, but not all people are interested in Flower and Flow, or documentaries or playthroughs.  For people who really want to get all three, that’s a good deal. For people who only want Journey, I can’t imagine anyone paying $30.

        • Scrooge_McDuck

“For those who want it, it’s a good deal. For those who don’t want it, it’s not.”

What’s so odd about that? It’s only a problem if it’s overpriced even for those who want it.

        • http://twitter.com/Nephlabobo Neal Power

$30 for three games just doesn’t seem like that much honestly.

        • http://twitter.com/AnthonyFoster5 Anthony Foster

I would have gladly paid $30 just for Journey on disc. I like owning what I pay for.

    • https://twitter.com/#!/Ojsinnerz Firo_Prochainezo

-All three games made by Thatgamecompany
      -30 minute documentary making-of.
      -Themes, concept arts and avatars
      -Developer playthrough of each game
-Soundtracks for all three games on disc.
-3 brand new mini games by TGC.
      -Did I mention it’s a physical copy?

I dunno mang. This is looks like a pretty good deal to me. There’s also a very small group of people who refuse to buy games off of DD services like Neal Power over there. Considering the original Journey is 15 dollars, and the other two games are like 5 dollars each (I don’t know how much they are), It’s technically 5 dollars more for a physical premium package.

There’s also been some interest from a number of consumers (including myself) that wanted a physical copy, so yeah. On top of that, it’s still half the price of a brand new game title.

    • sandra10

They’re not charging that much more for the physical copy. Journey’s  $15, Flower ~$7, and I think Flow is around $5.

    • British_Otaku

In my case, the fact that I will own the games forever without any online system or accounts controlling access is worth that $30. I’ve been waiting all of this time for Fl0wer to get a disc release after trying the demo for too long.

Now, I hear that it is coming with two of thatgamecompany’s other great projects that I’ve heard about but never given a go. Only thing I could ask for is being released in the UK, but it is a game I’ll import probably.

Oh and it comes with: The soundtrack for all three (probably playable individually on the game without playing), concept art (likewise), playthroughs (maybe commentaries but at least playthroughs of some of each game), a behind the scenes commentary and one month subscription to PlayStation Plus (no thanks).

Not every game has the first two options and often behind the scenes commentaries are reserved to that extra DVD that games like Arkham Asylum come with when you buy the big limited edition for like £60.

    • aoihana

Well, they’re charging more for the physical copy because it’s just that: a physical retail release. It seems like people have been wanting that, too.

They’re doing more than justifying the value with a behind the scenes documentary, here’s what they’re including, because it seems like you missed it.

      • All 3 of thatgamecompany’s games, Fl0w, Flower, and Journey.
      • Behind the scenes documentary about the making of Journey.
      • Soundtracks for all three games.
      • Concept art
      • Themes
      • Avatars

So, in my opinion, they’re really justifying the price, and it being a retail release, something I honestly prefer, it’s really worth it.

Though, if you don’t have a wireless connection at home, and don’t see the value in this Collector’s Edition, maybe you should try going over to a friends house making and downloading the purchase there? (◕‿◕✿)

      • Jirin

Does anybody *really* care about anything except the games though?  Did anybody *really* care about the umptillion hours of documentaries on the Lord of the Rings discs?  Would they have really paid extra if there wasn’t also 45 minutes of extra movie?

Did anyone pay $80 for Arc The Lad Collection because it came with a watch?

I prefer a retail release too, I just don’t think a lot of people are going to pay the combined price of all three games when they only want one because it has bonus materials.

        • M’iau M’iaut

Oh I could certainly see behind the scenes for this family of titles grabbing interest. The games have a serious customer base who play them for the mood and feeling — i.e. the whole games as art phenomena. Design materials and soundtracks are exactly the kind of things that would lead to a double dip.

        • aoihana

Like I said, there’s quite a few more enticing bonuses than the documentary, personally, the documentary and soundtracks for all 3 games is what really interests me.

Whether or not you really care about them, well, that’s a matter of personal opinion, but it seems to me like most people here are excited over the package. It’s $30, a great deal, we think.

Again, I’m sure you’ll find a way to download the games or game you’re interested in from the PSN. (◕‿◕✿)

        • malek86

I also don’t think this collection will sell that much, but price won’t be the concern. Rather, I think the people who were interested in the previous games will have already bought them. Journey is more recent, but then, people probably won’t pay $30 for one game when it costs $15 on the PSN.

Overall, much like the retail release of Wipeout HD, this seems to be aimed mostly at collectors and people who can’t connect to the internet with their console.

        • http://burnpsy.wordpress.com/ burnpsy

Does anyone really care about anything other than the games? *looks at shelves of Limited Editions* I sorta have to answer “yeah”.

    • Asura

Uh, if you add the price of Journey, Flower, and Flow together it is already more than $30. What are you talking about?

  • aoihana

Man! I’ve never played these games before, but honestly, this trailer has got me really excited. I always thought the game’s were beautiful, both Fl0w and Flower, but Journey looks especially beautiful, I think.

The music is really engaging, really powerful, it’s such a beautiful soundtrack! I will definitely support thatgamecompany and snatch up this Collector’s Edition, it’s definitely worth it!

  • Jonathan Keycross

    Totally worth it.

  • http://dyiele.wordpress.com/ Penguins Can Fly

the game that realized my post-apocalyptic setting dream life if i’m in a game, now even better. a threefold utopian dream. i’m getting this. :)

  • Victoria [Rokuso3]

My PS3 doesn’t have internet connection and I don’t like digital purchases, but I’ve always wanted to play these games. So this is SOLD.

  • Shane Guidaboni

Cool! I’m glad I held out on buying Journey.

  • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

Gah! I purchased all three games as soon as they were released, so guess I won’t be getting this. However, if they do release this in europe, I might triple-double dip.

Flower is still my favorite, but all of them are gaming experiences no one should miss.

  • Testsubject909

I’m down for this. I played Flowers at a friend’s place, I never did try Flow, and I enjoyed Journey thoroughly.

    30$? SOLD! DAY 1!

  • Zero_Destiny

That’s a nice deal, I guess it pays off that I’m late to the party again. lol Was going to buy Journey off of PSN back when it came out but didn’t have the funds at the time. Looks like I can buy it now with some other goodies and two other games that interest me. So pretty cool stuff.

The playthrough with the commentary sounds really awesome been listening to lots of commentaries lately for movies. Would be nice to hear some game ones. Oh yeah and those soundtracks should be fun too.

  • Strain42

This does make me glad that I decided to hold off and buying these titles. Given how Journey is 15 and Flower is…7? (I think) I dunno how much Fl0w is, but I guess with all the extra stuff here this is probably well worth the $30.

I think I will be picking this up. The PS3 is really releasing a lot of games I want all of a sudden, it’s crazy.

  • SirRichard

I already have all three, and honestly if they were to release it here in Europe I would buy this just to support them. I didn’t really like Fl0w, but Flower and Journey were absolutely incredible little games that deserve any love they can get.

  • http://www.fogalchemist.com/ caleb1993

I’m quite glad I have yet to pick up Journey now. I don’t own Fl0w or Flower either, so this retail release will be great for me.

    • Learii

      same here =D

  • Solomon_Kano

Sweet. I was tempted to buy Journey the other day, but now I’m glad I didn’t. Will definitely get this.

  • Triplicity

    Already own Journey… Damn.

  • https://twitter.com/Ni_Go_Zero_Ichi Project 2501

Despite technically being a bigger investment (and, seeing as I already have Flower, largely a waste) of cash moneys, this is somehow more appealing to me than paying $15 for a downloadable title I don’t know for sure whether I’ll enjoy.
