Neptunia V Spoofs Square Enix’s Army Corps Of Hell Lead

By Spencer . June 29, 2012 . 3:42pm

Hyperdimension Neptunia is known for having video game gags like adding "Maryo" who dresses like another famous video game plumber and Sneak-san who is a homage to Metal Gear Solid protagonist Snake.

Neptunia V (which actually takes place in the past) adds in a more recent video game icon – the Devil King from Square Enix’s Vita launch game Army Corps of Hell. He’s called Devil King sama in Netpunia V.

And here’s the King of Hell visiting Hell, Michigan.

Why would Compile Heart add the King of Hell in their game? He’s sort of an icon in Japan, thanks to Twitter. Maoh, as he’s known in Japan, rips on other games, even Square Enix’s own titles like saying the follow up to Sleeping Dogs should be Sleeping Goblins Hong Kong Hell Police.

Square Enix still runs this twitter account because the Devil King has 12,000 or so active followers. That’s more than the Bravely Default and Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary twitter pages combined. So, while Army Corps of Hell didn’t fly off store shelves, Maoh took off in his own way, at least enough to be worthy of a Neptunia cameo.

“Sleeping Goblins Hong Kong Hell Police.”

…Ok, I admit, that would be really awesome.

Devil King-sama?! It must be awesome to have two honorable to be called a King, and immediately after sama

Really interesting to see how Devil King has spawned such a dedicated following, the underworld would truly be proud! Tribute to Devil King!

    All hail Devil King-sama! (シ_ _)シ(シ_ _)シ

Wow… did expect this guy to become so popular… I might just have to get Army Corps of Hell now.

You know what? If the devil king becomes this underground kind of B-list celebrity in Square Enix’s line-up, I’m PERFECTLY okay with that. He can make little cameos and poke around here and there, because I just think it’s hilarious how he’s so far from what one would expect of a Square-Enix character. Like, can you even imagine that guy cameo-ing in Kingdom Hearts? The hilarity writes itself!

ACoH definitely could have been better, but I didn’t regret getting it at full price.  It’s just not all that impressive of a game.  But I do enjoy the characters and the OST a lot.  It’s fun enough for short periods of time.  Pick it up after a price cut.

Maou looks cool and…….kinda cute too lol in Neptunia there lol.^^

I can see when Maou take over Bravely Default:Flying Fairy into Bravely Default Flying Maou lol.^^

If the game takes place in the later 80′s, I’d like to see more actual licensed 80′s characters specifically Sega since Nintendo obviously cant be involved..

But in all actuality, crossovers, at least from third parties, aren’t impossible to put it, so yeah there could in theory be actual Namco, Capcom, SNK, Konami and Sega cameos. But I wouldn’t be surprised if not…
