Ni no Kuni Wizard’s Edition Will Travel To North America, Too

By Ishaan . June 29, 2012 . 4:34pm

This morning, Namco Bandai announced that Level 5’s Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch will see a collector’s edition, dubbed the “Wizard’s Edition,” in Europe. Now, this same has been confirmed for North America as well.

As reported this morning, the Wizard’s Edition comes with the Wizard’s Companion (titled Magic Master) hardcover art book that is a companion to the game and is also included digitally within the game itself. You’ll need it for things like taming special monsters in the game and so on. It also contains spells, a beastiary, item descriptions, and a history of Ni no Kuni’s world.

Also included is a Drippy plush doll, and Golden Drongo and Golden Mite DLC familiars. The entire package will be wrapped up in the special box you see above. The Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Wizard’s Edition will be released on January 22nd, 2013 in North America for $100. You can pre-order it exclusively from ClubNamco.

Thank goodness, we are getting it. I am so buying this when it’s released overseas.

  • XYZ_JolteonZ980

Preorder it, 119 dollar for two day shipping, cant wait.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Plue-VU/534341264 Plue VU

      do they charge right away?

      • XYZ_JolteonZ980

They took the money right out of my  account when I ordered, but I imagine it is temporary and will be back in my account this week, and then they will charge it when it ships.

  • Luna Kazemaru

Now you all can’t cry and say NA didn’t get anything when in all honestly we do.

  • Paradox me

    I love you, Namco Bandai.

  • Brandonmkii

FilthieRich just replyed to my tweet, letting me know about this. Awesome news.

  • http://s932.photobucket.com/ usagi_san

I was just over on IGN and read a comment that sparked my interest concerning this Wizard Edition. Since the PS3 version (Wizard Edition) is getting the book that comes with the DS version. Is there any chance the DS version will come over?

FYI When Siliconera broke the news that Europe and Australia are getting this, IGN broke the news that America was getting it but didn’t mention EU and AUS.

    • Solomon_Kano

Unlikely since this isn’t the DS versions book. This a 300 page hardcover. The DS version had a different book.

      • Aoshi00

Actually this should be the same as the DS ver book.  I got the DS hard cover Magic Master and it has 352 pgs, so I think they’re translating the whole thing for the PS3 ver..

It’s very tempting, but I alrdy have the book except in Jpn.. and not really crazy about the Shizuku plush (so his Eng. name is Drippy eh..), would need to think about this.. for those w/o the DS game though this is definitely worth it.

        • Solomon_Kano

Oh? That’s pretty sweet then. I guess the fact that they translated it for the PS3′s special edition kinda guarantees we won’t ever see the DS version though.

          Also: Drippy lol.

    • Aoshi00

I can’t believe they actually translated the whole thing and are bringing over the hard cover Magic Master.. I’m not sure if people would still want to play the DS ver though, the two games really have the same story, just different grahpics/presentation.. many in Jpn weren’t so enthusiastic about the PS3 ver because they alrdy played it on the DS.. that’s really not much reason to play both ver..

    • Nemesis_Dawn

Probably about 0% chance of getting the DS version over here.

  • http://twitter.com/waffles_10 rafael

    awww :(
    why is it US only???
how about Canada? so sad huhuhuhuhuhuhu :(

    • Tom_Phoenix

      Em…it says North America.

      • Jessi Cat

The Bandai-Namco webstore specifically says that they only ship within the United States, so if this is a Bandai-Namco exclusive…Canada gets nothing unless we import or it becomes available elsewhere :/

  • Natat

I’m totally getting the Special Edition! Looks so amazing.

  • Solomon_Kano

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Screw anybody else’s complaints with you, I love you Namco!

  • Strain42

JEEZ! Okay man…I really want the doll but…$100. I mean don’t get me wrong, this is a special edition that actually feels…well…special. But Extra $40 special…Not sure about that just yet.

    • Nikolai Sumcad

I know what you mean man, but considering how much they usually sell limited editions in Japan (in equivalence to dollar), this is actually a good deal. Whereas their local LE’s generally cost around $200 or more.

  • Nikolai Sumcad

Phew. Thought we weren’t going to get it. XD

  • creid8

Ugh, 100 I might do, but at $9 for the cheapest shipping I’ll probably pass.

  • Will Jay

Welp I know where 100 bucks is gonna go in January.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

With this, all of those who complained about that Europe is getting this while U.S does not, hope you guys will know really buy this.^^

  • scratchbach

Will happily pre-order, especially since I won’t have to import any more! Not a big fan of the shipping costs, but oh well.

  • awaiken

Knowing Namco Bandai they’ll pull the same switch-a-roo they pulled with Dark Souls. Promise all sorts of neat “tangible” bonuses for the limited edition then swap out those bonuses for their digital download equivalents 2 weeks before launch date. If they pull that stunt again I’ll pull my pre order and buy a used copy

    • Nemesis_Dawn

No need for them to do that as the book is already in-game. If you don’t pre-order, you already get the book in digital form.

      • awaiken

Not sure why this is going over your head. What I DONT want them to do is to remove the tangible book and say “you’re going to get the book in digital form, so nevermind about the tangible book” which is what they pulled with Dark Souls. I don’t care if the digital version of the book is included, I want the actual printed version of the book as promised.

        • Nemesis_Dawn

First off, you’re being a jerk. Cut it out. You’re not impressing anyone. Second, since what I said went directly over YOUR head, let me further explain to you, in small syllables so you have no problems understanding, that I was giving you a reason why they would not do what they did with Dark Souls.

If everyone who gets the game, regular edition included, gets a digital version of the book, then what exactly would they be selling in the version that is $40 more expensive if they went digital with the book? Hmmmm? Did everyone who got a copy of Dark Souls get all the extras? If not, then Namco could still technically say that they were getting something extra if it was all digital. If they do that here, because everybody already has the book, then they’re not giving you anything, are they?

Are you worried they’re going to make the plushy digital too?

I know it’s a Namco article and the Pavlovian response is to immediately find the negative in any situation, but maybe doing a little thinking before being commenting would be nice.

          • awaiken

Sorry for being a jerk just wanted to vent about Namco pulling bullshit on its customers.

I wouldn’t put it past them to pull the tangible book from the special edition and only include digital downloads of the soundtrack and an orgagami print out of that little cartoon character.

          • Nemesis_Dawn

No worries, mate. Takes a big person to admit when they were wrong and I am thankful to see you were big enough to do so. :)

And I actually giggled at the origami version of the plushy.

  • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Holy expensive as hell. >_<; I still need to get a PS3 for this too. Any idea where to get one moderately/reasonably priced?

    • David Vileta

In my opinion, the standard $250 retail asking price for a PS3 is very reasonable.

      • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

It’s 6 years old… :/ A little high if you ask me. Drop it 50-100 then it would be reasonable enough new. Used should then go to like 100. But meh not going to happen.

  • Vaporeon23

K cool, don’t have to import.

  • klkAlexar

I want this, and  I don’t even have a playstation 3. Hhhmm, maybe I should get one.

  • Nitraion

Damn O-o $100?! that’s kinda turn off i’m not that rich to spend $100 in one day u_u

    • AnimusVox

Yeah that does seem a bit much. Now, if it came with that awesome gold controller than it’d be worth it but as it stands? No.

      • Nitraion

Yes and No sadly even it comes with controller my max allowance for spend on single game is $60-65 otherwise i don’t have nothing to eat i will eat BD it self D:
at least the DLC is free, the information of the world in this game is kinda crucial hope they included in the game…

    • Nikolai Sumcad

You could always save! XD You’ve got around 6 months to put a dollar a day in a piggy bank and hey! You’ve got yourself your game! (Damn I hope I didn’t sound like an advertiser)

      • Nitraion

Ah if only my parent not have my account book….
I don’t want to explain where $100 gone D: i’m rather buy handheld console like VITA instead
and yes you sound like advertiser XD

        • Nikolai Sumcad

OoOOoOoh. Well, your parents are doing the right thing. Hmm that’ll be tough. XD

  • Herok♞

Well at least its the first thing I can put Christmas money toward.

  • MrRobbyM

    So there is a god..

  • Anime10121

Wow well Namco put a sock in my mouth, and I gladly ate it:)

  • http://epiclyamazing.wordpress.com/ AzureNova

    O_O! Goes off to pre-order a second time =P

  • Nyandroid

I was so happy to see that this would be coming here as well! This is why I was holding off on pre-ordering it! But then I saw the price. Yikes!

    • Foofin Around

Yeah, it’s awesome to see North America getting the same treatment as Europe!  While the price seems steep, I can understand it.  This truly is a quality limited edition.

Yes, the book is included in-game, but there’s just something about having a physical copy in your hands that can’t be replaced.  You then have the cute little Drippy doll, which is just oozing with its own charm.  To top it all off, you get a game that has all of the DLC released in Japan put into the localized product along with the new golden familiars.  Steep price, yes.  But a lot of effort was put into this.  I’m still unsure if I can shell out $100, but it’s nice to see that companies are willing to make nice editions like this for supportive fans! (^_^)

      • Nyandroid

I do agree. Its a very nice edition! >w<;~ And about a year ago I would have had no problem bringing out my money for it. But. Nowadays I just can't help but think that extra money could go towards another game. Or even two. uwu;~

        • Foofin Around

I completely understand the desire to want to spread out the mula as much as possible.  With the economy being the way it is and good jobs hard to come by, it’s always important to consider how money can be best spent.

Either way, this game should please fans for a long time.  The game looks lovely in every way, and all of the DLC is free.  The only things we miss out on if we don’t get this are the adorable doll and golden colored familiars… that, and a really nice case.  I feel like the DLC and collector’s edition were both handled very well for Ni no Kuni.  Neither take away from the overall experience if we decide not to get them, but getting them adds to the magic of the experience! (^_^)

    • Steven Lamphere

well perhaps think of it this way:
      1.) typical ps3 price is $60
2.) typical novel (around 300 page book) is between $20-$35
3.) typical anime/ video game plushie is around $25-$50
4.) typical character DLC via PSN is $3.99-$5.99

in total seperately (using medium price for ranged ones) the total would usually be $128

so consider the $100 price tag as what…20% off?

  • riceisnice

Could I just buy the book separately?

    • Nemesis_Dawn

Probably on eBay afterwards, for like four times the price.

  • Foofin Around

I’m extremely happy to see that North America has the wonderful opportunity to get this edition as well!  I know many were worried about having to import, but now we all can buy the game from our respective countries… which is an extremely good thing for any game, but especially JRPGs!  I can see that I’m really just repeating what every other fan here is saying, but my excitement for this game just shot through the roof! (^o^)/

  • http://www.facebook.com/JoseNelsonMayenMiranda Jose Nelson Mayen Miranda

This article needs to be corrected. Namco doesn’t ship to Canada :( :( :( :(…. I want this so bad.

    • Darkrise

      Well there goes my hype…

    • kurono

Yep. Apparently North America means US only to Namco.

      • Steven Lamphere

they might mean continental US; of course they also should have said as much so I don’t know

    • No9

Oh what the heck?! No book Canadians I guess. .__.

  • Zonic505

Huzzah for the news, especially after shortly the confirmation of the European version. I cannot wait to get this. Though I kind of wish this was at more retailers.

    • Covnam

I wish it was available as a wider release too. Not sure if I’m going to pick this up and being able to take a little off the top from another seller wouldn’t hurt.

  • Omikuji

That book is beautiful. I mean. I’m a sucker when they add books to their collectors editions and all, and always like it when it’s actually full of useful information concerning the games lore. Good thing the games release date is a good ways away, gives me time to save up.

  • Zero Shift

$100 is kinda stretching it for what you’re getting IMO, most collector’s editions that come with any sort of hardcover art book and like one other item go for $70-$80. Then again, this is a pretty niche JRPG, so it sort of justifies the price. Either way, I’ll probably end up getting it, I’m a huge fan of Level 5 and Bandai Namco.

    • Belphegor

Yeah but most artbooks you get aren’t over 300 pages long like the one here (nor do they have the same attention to detail), printing something like that is not going to come cheap.

      • Zeik56

Yeah, most artbooks that come with CE’s are pretty crappy and barely even qualify as “artbooks”, and even the ones that I’d consider good are nothing on this level.

      • Zero Shift

I missed the “300 pages” part in the picture lol. Then yeah, I see the point of the $100 price tag now, it should be worth that much with 300+ pages of colored art and bits and pieces of info. Looking forward to getting this!

    • Shiki01

This isn’t a “artbook” I don’t why people keep calling it that. It has art in it yes but there’s ALOT more information than any other artbook has. The reason why is because the book is actually a physical copy of the exact same book the main character Oliver uses. Every page is exactly the same has his. It contains all the spells and monster information.

This is why for the ds version in japan it was a requirement to have this exact book packed with the game. There’s a digital version of the book in the ps3 version, however this CE offers a chance to get a physical copy instead.

So this is really a great and very lucky opportunity that we  NA gamers have especially considering that namco rarely likes to even give games like this to NA. Usually this sort of stuff stays exclusive to japan or has better chance of coming to europe. For those that want to see what this book offers check out these links below.

  • http://www.facebook.com/JaeWhy SasuleUchiha

I want but they don’t ship to small Asia.
I hope Zavvi or Thehut will sell it so I can import.

  • Barrit

Preordered already! I’m so glad the US is getting this, and they are giving us a chance to show them that there is a market for this in the US and not just in the UK. Major bummer that they aren’t shipping to other parts of NA though.

  • onetwojanggo

i got a question for you people!! is this edition gonna be available for a very long time or is this edition is like a limited edition??

  • SwordBreaker

I want to pre-order the European version, but I don’t know where can I find it online. The US version is the one from ClubNamco if I’m not mistaken, but can anyone help me locate the UK version online?

    • http://twitter.com/FaithlessMr Bruno Silva

I don’t think any retailers have this edition up for pre ordering right now, I believe NB will announce the official retailer list later on, but if they aren’t making this an exclusive ClubNamco game in Europe, or exclusive NB e-shop or something (I believe they won’t, or else they would have said this earlier on), then amazon.co.uk is your safest bet, since they always seem to sell pretty much every limited edition of every game that is ever released here. Square Enix usually also partners with Zavvi.com and thehut.com, both nice retailers, and GAME, but I have no idea who NB will choose to partner with to sell this CE in the ol’ continent.

So yeah, keep an eye on amazon.co.uk, they should have it, I’m almost sure of that.

  • Asura

Would be tempted if the book wasn’t already in the game itself, and if it wasn’t so expensive.

  • Neophoton

I feel a bit saddened that I was once interested in this title, yet over time I’ve only come to care for its music and art. $100 is pretty pricey for a collector’s edition, but then I don’t think many collector’s editions come with a 300-page book… I’d just want the soundtrack!

    • revenent hell

Im slightly of the same thinking here…But the art style is exactly what I dislike thus far of what I have seen.I instantly loved the story and premis of the game, music was lovely and everything other than the charecters I liked…But I think their art style is one of those things you either love or hate and the more I see of it the less I want it,wich kinda saddens me because orriginally I was pretty enthusiastic about the game

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001624602133 Antwon Shelton

Really glad this is coming here. Was gonna get originally for $60 but this is a quite a special occasion. A Studio Ghibli collab with Level-5 probably doing some Dragon Quest 8-like vibes maybe. I don’t expect to sell a lot, but maybe the Ghibli will help. Now I gotta save up for it.

  • William Carpenter

Great! So now when it bombs, it’ll bomb even harder. Good thinking, Bamco!

But hey, I’ll still buy it. It looks really nice, a gorgeous package, and I’m really looking forward to the game.

  • TheInternetNomad

yay big box super special edition

  • Ravage27

Good for US PS3 owners :)

  • puchinri

Welp, guess I’m saving up for that. It looks so beautiful~.

Also, totes makes me want to cosplay as Oliver for the next convention. ♥u♥

  • Nikolai Sumcad

Can anyone confirm if they charge you right after pre-ordering? My card’s expiration is sometime this year and I don’t want to face problems when they charge you just before shipping date because of inconsistencies.

    • nothing956

Don’t know if you still need an answer but here is one right from clubnamco’s FAQ

“For purchases of physical products, you won’t be billed until your product is shipped. “

    • Joan Ortiz

Yes, I just ordered and was charged automatically. For once I think it’s better this way, at least for me.
