By Spencer . July 3, 2012 . 1:24am

You can get Galgun and start shooting pheromones today for 6,800 yen ($85) with the Pinafore maid cafe costumes as a bonus. The PS3 version also supports PlayStation Move for light gun style controls.

This game costs waaaaaaay too much for what it is.  Should have been like a third that price.

    • Code

Welcome to Japan’s economy >3<; $85 is your average retail price for a PS3/360 game sadly.

      • Kevadu

Oh, I am well-aware.  But Gal Gun doesn’t feel like a full retail game.  And they aren’t even discounting the digital version at al.

        • KuroiKen

Well, it is a full retail game, lol(it’s longer than most western shooting games, so it IS a full retail game, also, much more enjoyable). And some companies think that digital version should cost more. Well, it’s their decision.
Some think digital must be cheaper, some think otherwise.

          • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

Yes, it’s up to companies to think whatever they want. But it certainly doesn’t say whether the way they think is reasonable or fair for the customers, does it?

          • Kevadu

The funny thing about length in video games is that it’s really easy to make a game long if you just keep repeating environments and enemies (which is exactly what Gal Gun does…).  That’s a really poor metric of a game’s quality.  I could make a game where you just fight one dude over and over and over and advertise thousands of hours of gameplay.

          • KuroiKen

The game is made in a setting where there SHOULD be repeating environments. Firstly, because ENVIRONMENT is a secondary factor in Gal*Gun. The “enemies” are also repeating for the same reason(did you know, that if you are defeated by a random(well, not random, they all have names and profiles) girl in Gal Gun, you can get an ending with her?). In a particular case, it isn’t poor metric of a game’s quality.

          • http://wiredjungle.wordpress.com/ DrakosAmatras

            @KuroiKen:disqus
So if recycling environments are excusable, and recycling target types are excusable, what else is left for the developers to put effort into? Bullet speed? Gun types?

And the environment is a “secondary” factor? How? I’m pretty sure the environments are made to reinforce the school atmosphere, so I would think it’s a pretty significant aspect here, at least in the sense that they’re part of the whole Moe tone of the game. And in the case of rail-shooters in general, there’s not much to showcase aside from stages, enemies and gun types for some. If it’s a secondary factor, what’s the primary factor?

(On a positive note, the game does look visually tidy, and there’s voice acting, as stereotypical as characters may end up sounding. If they were more modest with the price, I wouldn’t mind trying the game myself. Right now though, the pricing is rather arrogant for an arcade-style game when even Tales games – titles that provide more than a handful tens of hours of content, if not a hundred – are selling at no more than 7000 Yen. And those are physical copies.)

I know you have a huge bias towards Japanese titles and against Western ones), but defending (what can potentially be) lazy design and overpricing? This is just sad.

  • Zoozbuh

From the title, for a second I thought this game had been localized (which would have been a shock)…. Not sure if it would appeal to me either way though :S

  • Paradox me

You would have to stage your own death, flee the country, buy a fake moustache, assume an alias, stage their death and then resurface in Tijuana five years later under the guise of being a Chupacabra before you should even consider buying Gal*Gun.

Scratch that, no amount of secrecy, anonymity or staged deaths could erase the shame of buying this game.

    • Silver Citizen

      Shame? What’s that? :P

    • PoweredByHentai

Shame?  What is this blasphemy you speak of?

    • Fire.fire.kun

      Shame is obsolete. ;p

    • KuroiKen

I dunno, I bought it, though, through import of course and…I feel nothing. What’s shame?

  • Silver Citizen

I think it’s cool they put this on PSN. I was always interested in it and now it’s a little easier to buy it.

  • Kevin

A real man doesn’t need to hide his passion (⌐■_■)

  • AndyFe

if my game stop did sell this i would gladly go up yo the counter and buy it. I even told everyone i know how awesome it is. Best FPS of the year!

  • neetyneety

Being able to buy things like this in person is like a rite of passage into manhood.

Sadly, it seems I’m not a man…. yet.

  • Nitraion

i know this game lol i download the demo XD

  • revenent hell

haha this reminded me of my early teens I used to read alot of romance novels, amongst other books,…..I was so embarased the first time I went to buy one untill the people behind the counter started asking me about the book and author…Eh that kind of killed my embarrasment no matter what I bought there are people who will be interested by it

  • Shadowman

I go in there and my head held high and feet on the ground and say “I would like to buy Galgun Please.”

  • Darkrise

There’s no shame at all, even when your just buying it online. =)

  • Juan Andrés Valencia

85 dollars for GalGun? For what I played it’s far from a 60-50 dollar game, let alone 80.

Also, considering the visuals it should be running at 60 FPS instead of 30-20.

    • British_Otaku

The default price in Japan for PS3 games is much higher than 60 dollars in Japan, the UK and a hell of a lot of places. What you should be concerned about is how the game is going for physical edition prices despite being a download edition…

According to Aoshi00, this is even more expensive than importing a physical edition… >_>

      • Juan Andrés Valencia

I can confirm it, it IS more expensive to buy it on the PSN than on retail with fast international shipping.

  • Mrgrgr and Unacceptable World

….Shame??? For a person who promote Doki Doki Majo Shinpan to many of his friend here feel that this is just a small thing here lol.^^

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/U2UHZLVTHH5EFWNTDCP2MJ4TGQ Nick

I CAN DIE HAPPY!….but i would die ten times more if it was in english

  • http://ggftw.com/forum/ Monkey_T

85 bucks? Why are games in Japan so damn expensive?

    • KuroiKen

      Welcome to Japan economics.

    • rebecasunao

That’s the usual price for recent games in Brazil.

  • davidvinc

Why would you be embarrassed to buy a game? I can kind of understand it for condoms and lube, but a game? Please.

    • KuroiKen

Sorry, I kinda don’t understand being embarassing when buying condoms and lube. Well, buying games is also nothing embarassing.

  • gaiahatergaia

And just why would i be embarrassed to buy a game with this much cute girls?
I’d be actually embarrassed to buy a game with buffed bald guys and monks, but this? No, just no.

  • WyattEpp

At last, another use for my Move!

  • yalissa

I don’t think it’s embarrassing to buy a game like this.
For me, it’s embarrassing when you CAN’T find it, and you have to ask an employee to help you locate it ; u ; (especially when you can’t properly pronounce the name, lol *coughateliercough*)
    But going up to the counter isn’t embarrassing. It’s… weird > w >;;
    But then again… I’m a girl. It’s almost like second-hand embarrassment from my inner-guy.

    • IshimaruKaito

LOL! i have had the same problem with atelier…its one thing to spell it out but to pronounce it! pfft gud luck lol!

      • yalissa

Haha tell me about it. Almost everyone I’ve heard say it, says it differently.

  • KK

Is it on the US PS store? I’d rather have the actual game. No shame here…only when people who don’t really know me enter my room. Then it’s like “uh…yeah, I can explain all of this….”

  • Visa Vang

Yeah, now what was that web shop that I bought my JPN PSN money for cheap called again… *Looks into the bookmarks* Hope they didn’t rack up the price…

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001624602133 Antwon Shelton

The demo of this game is too damn funny. I’m not sure if I would buy it though. Maybe if it was cheaper.

  • IshimaruKaito

lmao at “too embarrassing!” i dont care wat the ppl have to say if i go buy games like these… lol i mean hey….i bought hyperdimension neptunia lol
