Sol Trigger’s Battle System Awakens With Partner Attacks

By Spencer . July 10, 2012 . 11:47pm

JRPG maker Imageepoch has a little taste of Sol Trigger’s combat system. Their upcoming PSP epic uses a command battle system. You travel with four characters who can team up for combination attacks and "awaken" to use more powerful skills. Looks pretty action packed with guns blazing and holy bullets flying.

Sol Trigger is slated for release, at the suggestions of Japanese retailers, on October 4.

Wait, it’s a DUNGEON CRAWLER?! That’s a surprise. or wait, it reminds me of Dragon quest 8.
Not that i mind though, i’m getting this anyway, it’s pretty awesome. i’ll jump off the rooftop if this doesn’t get localized.

  • For playable characters, we now have a Swordsman, a Gunner, a Scythe user, a Cannoneer, a Mage, and an Axeman. So they’ve added 3 more to the team. Let’s see their voice actors:

Sophie: Koshimizu Ami [Rune Factory‘s Mist]
    Gustaf: Miyake Kenta [Zangief]
Cyril: Yūki Aoi [BlazBlue‘s Platinum the Trinity; Kaname Madoka]

Reminds me of SMT, Earthbound, FF and other games like that

    •  Which in itself makes this game awesome :D

  • Oh man, that First-Person kills it for me…:(

    • Go2hell66

yea from what i’ve seen so far, i wasn’t expecting first person either.
not the end of the world but yea i’d prefer it wasn’t like that

    • i dont think its a big deal its pretty cool IMO im a big fan of the FPS style like etrian odyessy and DQ

  • Every time I see this game, it always amazes me on how good the game looks for a PSP title….

    • Imageepoch did say that it’s their last PSP title, so it’s quite possible that they wanted to give their all for the last sprint.

      • gaiahatergaia

Does that mean Imageepoch will work on titles for other consoles? (Possibly PS3?)

        • They already have… It’s called Tokitowa….

        • Aren’t they the one’s doing Toki to Towa?

        • They’re already working on a home console title, and I don’t remember any financial crisis report from them, so I’d assume they’ll continue making games for the time being.

They haven’t announced a title for PSV or 3DS so far though.

  • The battle system kinda reminds me of Persona 3/4 in 1st person = STILL WANT

And Black haired looks even more lk Minato in tht icon pic.

  • If they bring it over to the west, I hope it is Vita compatible. This game has been interesting since I read an article about it.

    •  You’re better off brushing up on your japanese and getting ready to import…I know I am. I just don’t see this being released here.

Reaaaaaally hope I’m wrong (Ghoslight, are you there? :D)

      • I have a Vita. :'( And have no real intention in picking up a PSP. T^T Those Kanji… TT^TT

I hope Ghostlight do come in and bring it to the PAL regions. :D

  • I don’t really care about the first person tho..
    I just hope its not a pointless heavy-grind game…
At the very least give me some funny or ”wow” event to look forward after heavy-grind (Disgaea-Persona)
And its not all FP games too…Some skill have a scene before it hit enemy/activated right?Like Lost Heroes game…

  • People can say  what they want about the PSP, but its a damn fine system.

    • It’s more than a damn fine system. It’s one of the best handhelds out there (at least software wise, following closely behind the GBA).

  • Mad_Dog_Yayan

I don’t have a problem with the FP, but I would like it better without it. I hope the scenes where they activate their skill will be cool enough to make up for it. I must say, while I like all the characters so far, Sophie (the blue haired girl) is my favorite, she looks awesome and badass with that BFG of hers.

    • They seem to be going for a presentation style similar to 7th Dragon 2020, which worked pretty nicely from what I see. That said, I can understand why some would want to see character models in 3rd-Person view; 7D20 was a game where your party had very little story-important personality and were just extensions of the player (although they did have pre-set personalities based on their voice type), whereas this is a game where characters and story are actively intertwined.

  • Get into my psp!!! The first person 3D reminds me of Jewel summoner. The Awaken attacks looks like they’ll be fun~

  • Alexander Aubert

will this be a hard RPG just like ARF, i love a real challange in RPG

  • Okay now, this looks too good NOT to be released around the world. (Looks at Imageepoch with hopeful eyes) :3

  • Darkrise

I’m hoping for at least a downloadable version in english… This is just too awesome of a game to pass up and I’d say now’s the time to go out with a bang in NA too!

  • Nikolai Sumcad

I love the expressions the girls make!

  • Is it just me, or does the image used on the main news page for this story look like the character is flipping us off? ;)

  • Nitraion

    Man FP huh….
but glad they have some animation for skills if not it will be soo heavy turn off..

  • midgard229

got sooooo scared when i saw first person. but atleast major animations are…..well animated lol. so i think i can deal with that

  • Göran Isacson

Have to admit, I was not expecting the first person perspective. I wouldn’t have guessed that was part of their vision when they said they wanted to create an “optimal JRPG” (I think that was part of the PR-hyperbole when they first announced the game at least), but maybe their image of an optimal game differs from mine… or maybe it’s just cheaper and quicker that way.

  • Hinataharem

    This looks good. Great even.
